Master Of None-Chapter 2850. The Heart
Taller.
Walker caught that fact a bit too late. He hadn't realized that he had recently grown at least two inches taller while he had been working on this or that. Missing something so big as part of his body not fitting in clothes as easily like the length of his sleeves or the pants on his legs was surprising.
It meant that he would have to send them to his little sister and request everything to be refitted or replaced properly. But that was not his main concern.
When Walker sat in his meditation and looked in to his body, he noticed mana hanging out in every muscle. His skin too.
The ways that they sat were not in stagnant or unsettling forms. Instead, he realized that he could feel minuscule mana crystals. More closely like some sort of naturally formed mana gem. His very body was a host to dense and purer manas now. Something entirely unlike what a human would possess.
This proved beyond a doubt that he would need to make sure that he kept a close eye on how his body changed. Not only because he would potentially be stepping further and further away from being human physically. He didn't want to forget where he began and how long and hard the journey to reach the heights he was stepping in to were.
Besides this, he also thought of Alice.
He made promises. He prospered and had planned so much. He valued her in every way despite them needing to focus on their own duties so often. But he had to properly show he was not forgetting the bond he felt was the key to him remaining a proper person.
Alice had found that in her distant lineage, she had some angel blood. That was how she had the issue of her mana being used without her desires and why she had worked so hard to prevent losing all of her mana every time she spoke. She has come a long way.
For the most part though, she was human.
Walker had been human but now he was basically an origin race member. Meaning that he was not sure how he might inevitably interact with other races. It wasn't like he could just casually walk in to an origin race members home and start asking questions.
From what he knew, the other origin race members were few and far between. They were intensely powerful. They also did not gather. They worked on their goals which could be as small, in relation, as gathering elemental planes to expand the greater elemental planes. Or, they could trap, police, and gather the more powerful beings that caused problems and threats. Being that could survive and thrive within the chaotic space outside of the elemental planes.
While focusing on these changes and how he had changed, Walker halted and froze.
While he had wished to understand the manas within him and the fact that the spatial skills he had were now like an extra limb to him, he had discovered something else.
His desire to create bonds and grow them with his family and those he called family were where he started and where he rested his heart. They were something more dear to him than he allowed himself to remember some times. It was something that all those in roles of leadership might push away for a time because they felt that getting closer to goals that helped everyone equally were more pressing. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
Therefore, as Walker stood up and used space mana to get back to Genesis rapidly, he found himself walking through the door to the wandering blacksmith's current workshop.
The man was surrounded by new material she had procured, had been bought, or Walker had personally given him. From what Walker could expect, he was trying to decide what he would work on next. Forgetting the hundreds of blueprints and other projects that he had been assisting people with.
Then again, the wandering blacksmith was a well known eccentric. Just the same as how some people said the very same thing about Walker. Yet, as the wandering blacksmith looked at Walker, a small smile graced his often serious expressions.
"You already know why I am here?"
"I am older than most people now. I know exactly how a kid like you would think. You get distracted by progression and your own dreams. But you just came from the sky and touched solid ground again. So go and achieve what you need for your heart and soul." Walker couldn't say he had ever heard the man say so much at once with so much pure honesty.
However, it was crystal clear that words offered were ones that the wandering blacksmith seemed to wish he had told his younger self. "I made this some time ago from scraps we left behind while making your eternal codex."
The small box held what Walker was going to ask for. He felt like he ad a better handle than anything else with what he was feleing too. Not a simple conenction because of rune formaitons or mana. But one that the eternal codex could use as a sign that wherever this item was could be followed if need be.
"Thank you." Walker gave a deep nod and then stepped out the door and used more spatial mana. He was moving with a goal that would take him to something he had been holding off too long.
Stepping from the larger square, Walker wasn't surprised to see that Su was walking out of the cathedral. Her face wore a mask of curiosity. "I felt you coming. You were using more mana than usual, is something wrong?"
Since Su knew Walker so well, she knew when he might be acting to push himself. When he might be moving faster because there was something that needed his full attention.
"Well, I realized that all my focus on meditation and looking at the changes in who and what I am were something I needed to put aside. I forgot about a goal I wanted to achieve before we do anything major. Before I might be too powerful to sit and relax with my family." Su blinked a few times then burst in to a smile.
"You need to get it done soon then. It's not just you who has forgotten a little of what promises they made." Su hummed and rushed off. Most likely to get back to the unexplored continent's camps and drag Remey back with her too. Midnight and Onyx would surely arrive sooner than later too. Gil most likely would be there once he had Alma's permission. The pair were very busy after all.
As Walker moved through the open doors of the cathedral, a few healers, priests, and others of the cathedral gave waves or surprised glances. But the fact that Walker didn't react gave them their own curiosity. He moved past everyone. He even half heartedly started using a small multi healing spell before he approached the most focused on individuals whenever they were in the cathedral or training areas for healers.
"Alice, I have been foolish and distracted. I have not given you the whole heart I promised and made you wait for me for too long. We are getting older and we are gaining power. We have goals here but we are living beyond just the goals of the people as we become more than we are as just people."
His words achoed with mana making the light mana gather around them. The small trick was his mimicry of what Alice could do with every little word she spoke causing the light mana to dance to her songs.
"I refuse to hold back and ignore what I know as fact. I proposed my feelings, and offered you my future. In this moment, I will reaffirm my hearts' home to you and propose that we get married within this week. Will you please clear your schedule so we can achieve what we wished for so long ago?"
Alice turned to face him head on. The nun she had been speaking with about bandages and new salves they could add to field kits for light warriors forgotten. "You know, Remey told me if you didn't follow through sooner than later I should punch you. But Su said she would do it for me." Her voice was followed by her sing song laugh, the light vibrating like a show of humor and airiness.
"I already have a dress made by my soon to be sister in law. I have a blessing from my father. I have control of my songs. I have a place to worship the health of everyone. Now, I wish to have a family tied to you and I. So let's move forward before the enormity of all we can explore distracts you and I too much to share our bond with everyone."
Her words danced in the air as gasps of shock came from those present. They'd all never imagined this to occur now and here of all places. But the rumors would spread, and Genesis would have the second wedding of one of the hero party within a week. It was just a matter of how many people would celebrate this event. How many would be able to even attend close enough to hear and see it all.
