Chapter 107 - 107 : Nightmare

One morning.

The sun shone brightly through the window, casting a warm glow across the room.

Finn sat on the sofa, absently watching a movie while scrolling through social media. His fingers moved idly, skimming through posts, searching for anything noteworthy.

His knowledge of Marvel's timeline was limited beyond Thor: Love and Thunder, so he couldn't accurately predict what would happen next.

"Seems like nothing major is happening. New York is relatively calm."

He scrolled further. Just minor incidents, nothing too concerning. No major crimes had been reported so far. Security around the city was stable—no riots, no chaos in the streets.

If anything big had happened, it was Wilson Fisk, Kingpin, stirring up trouble again. Within the last week, he had been embroiled in a series of violent conflicts, making waves across the criminal underworld.

"Could it be Hawkeye?"

Finn narrowed his eyes at the article on his phone. He couldn't help but wonder.

After all, in Hawkeye, Clint Barton had a serious run-in with Fisk. It was only natural to suspect his involvement.

If that were the case, it was definitely bad news.

Meanwhile.

Wanda Maximoff and her corrupted doppelgänger—Dark Wanda—had spent the morning locked in a tense exchange before continuing their study of the Darkhold.

Dark Wanda had personally guided Wanda through a few spells earlier, and now she expected results.

"The magic I taught you—study it well. Build your foundation first. Don't rush." Dark Wanda's voice was sharp, unwavering.

It was a warning.

Magic demanded discipline. If the basics weren't mastered, pushing forward would only lead to disastrous consequences. Rushing the process would weaken Wanda in real combat.

"I know. Don't worry." Wanda replied, setting aside distractions to focus.

"Witch, take your time. There's a saying: Haste makes waste. Learn the fundamentals before aiming for mastery." Finn turned to her, his tone serious.

In a few months, they wouldn't be dealing with simple threats. A far more formidable and mysterious enemy awaited them.

"I'll work hard." Wanda met his gaze and nodded, determination burning in her eyes.

The morning passed quickly.

Until noon.

Grumble.

"Finn, I'm hungry again. What are we eating today?" Wanda set the Darkhold aside and looked at him, her crimson eyes glimmering with expectation.

"We weren't home for a while. I only restocked enough for breakfast this morning—fridge is empty. We'll have to eat out."

Finn ruffled her hair with a chuckle.

"Okay, I'll follow your lead." Wanda smiled, nodding like an eager kitten.

"I'm coming too. I'm starving," Dark Wanda chimed in, moving toward them.

"Nope. Absolutely not. You two look exactly the same. If we go out together, we'll attract too much attention. I can't deal with that again." Finn immediately shut her down.

Every single time he took them both out, it was a disaster—people stared like they were some kind of spectacle. He wasn't about to go through that again.

"It's fine. I'll just follow quietly." Dark Wanda shrugged, indifferent.

"That's even worse. This time, I'm only taking one of you."

Finn took Wanda's hand, preparing to leave. But before they could step out, Dark Wanda blocked their path. Her expression was different this time—hesitant, conflicted.

"Finn... can you take me this time? I—" she hesitated, her voice lowering, "—I haven't eaten at that restaurant in a long time."

Her voice trailed off, laced with an unfamiliar vulnerability.

"Still no." Finn remained firm.

The last thing he wanted was to draw more attention to them. It would only put them in an awkward situation.

Wanda, noticing Dark Wanda's quiet sorrow, sighed. After a moment of thought, she spoke up. "Finn, what if she disguises herself? Changes her appearance a bit? That way, no one will recognize us as twins."

Maybe it was empathy—or maybe some deeper, unspoken connection between them—but she wanted to help Dark Wanda.

"That... could work." Finn glanced at Dark Wanda, considering it.

"Yes! I can handle that." Dark Wanda's eyes lit up. She felt a surge of gratitude toward Wanda. Even though she knew Finn wasn't her Finn, she still wanted to be part of their world.

"Don't get me wrong," Wanda quickly clarified. "I just don't want Finn to feel embarrassed again."

"Fine, go ahead." Finn nodded. "Change your appearance."

Dark Wanda wasted no time. Scarlet energy surged from her hands, casting a glow throughout the room. The flickering magic bathed the walls in an eerie red hue before fading.

When the light vanished, Finn and Wanda turned to examine her. To their surprise, she looked the same.

"Uh... did it not work?" Finn raised an eyebrow.

Dark Wanda smirked. "It worked. You two just can't see the difference. To the outside world, I have a completely different face."

"You pulled that from the Darkhold, didn't you?" Wanda eyed her cautiously.

"Of course. But this spell requires mastery. Once you've built a strong foundation, you can learn more advanced magic." Dark Wanda's tone was casual.

It wasn't a difficult spell—just a matter of dedication. And Wanda, being the Scarlet Witch, already wielded Chaos Magic. She simply needed time to refine her skills.

The conversation ended, and the three of them finally headed out.

Just as they hoped, the disguise worked.

No one gave them a second glance. If anyone did look, it was brief—just another trio walking through the city.

"Good. No unwanted attention." Finn exhaled in relief.

But just as he let his guard down—

A hand clapped his shoulder from behind.

"Finn. Long time no see."

Finn turned around, recognizing the voice instantly.

It was Josh.

Josh looked terrible. His skin had a sickly hue, his eyes were sunken, dark circles heavy beneath them. He looked like he hadn't slept in days.

"Josh? What the hell happened to you? Why are you here?"

"That's my question, man. Where the hell have you been?" Josh shot back, eyeing him suspiciously.

Since their last meeting, Finn had practically disappeared.

"Just took a little trip." Finn shrugged, keeping it vague.

"A trip, huh? And you came back with a new girl?" Josh's gaze flicked to Dark Wanda, scanning her with curiosity.

Even with the altered appearance, she was striking—her posture, the way she carried herself. There was something off about her.

"It's not what you think." Finn smirked, brushing off the insinuation. "Anyway, how've you been?"

Josh sighed. "Don't even get me started. Lately, I've been having these weird-ass dreams. And not just any dreams—really real ones."

Finn exchanged a glance with Wanda.

"Go on," he prompted.

Josh hesitated, then continued. "I keep seeing Agnes. Every damn night. It's like she's trying to tell me something. But I don't know what it means."

At the mention of Agnes, Finn and Wanda exchanged another knowing look.

Something was definitely wrong.

Wanda knew that Aunt Agnes was actually Agatha Harkness, and she had been killed by a mysterious figure a month ago. Wanda had been present at the scene, yet something about the way Agatha had died struck her as bizarre.

With no leads or further evidence, the incident had eventually faded from her immediate concerns.

"Josh didn't know that Aunt Agnes was Agatha," Finn thought to himself. Back then, Agatha had attempted to siphon power from a witch's body, and when he discovered her actions, he had killed her without hesitation.

"You dreamed of Aunt Agnes. Did she say anything to you?" Finn suddenly asked, his curiosity piqued.

Even though he was certain that Agatha had died by his own hands, Josh's dream had stirred something in him.

Josh, however, remained silent. Without acknowledging the question, he turned and walked away.

"What's up with him?" Finn muttered, watching Josh's retreating figure.

"Finn, there's something weird about Josh," a voice chimed in beside him.

It was Dark Wanda—the corrupted version of Wanda Maximoff, twisted by the chaos of another reality. She stood next to him, gazing in the direction Josh had gone, an enigmatic expression on her face.

"Strange?" Finn repeated, frowning.

"Yes. I can sense an energy around him—something that doesn't belong to him." Dark Wanda's deep red eyes gleamed with caution.

"You're just being paranoid. He's probably just high on that stuff again," Finn dismissed, shaking his head. "You know how he gets."

Josh had always carried an air of vanity, but when it came down to it, he was competent. If he weren't, he wouldn't idolize someone as powerful and influential as Wilson Fisk.

"No. I know what I felt. And I don't believe it's an illusion," Dark Wanda insisted.

"We've been standing here for too long. Let's eat first, we can talk later. I'm starving," Wanda tugged at Finn's sleeve, her stomach growling.

"Right, let's go," Finn said, chuckling at her impatience.

Dark Wanda rolled her eyes. "You're such a glutton. No wonder you're always hungry."

"Mind your own business!" Wanda shot back, grabbing Finn's arm and dragging him forward.

Dark Wanda smirked. "You'll regret this later."

She quickly caught up as they entered a crowded restaurant. They were about to leave, assuming there were no seats, when the owner approached them enthusiastically.

"We've got two open spots if you don't mind sharing."

Settling down at the table, they flipped through the menu and ordered their favorite dishes.

Soon, their table was filled with steaming plates of food, the aroma making their stomachs growl.

"Don't just sit there, dig in before it gets cold," Finn urged, motioning for them to eat.

"Then I won't be polite," Wanda said, immediately reaching for the nearest dish, stuffing her mouth full.

Dark Wanda scoffed. "Finn, what did I say? A pig is a pig. Can you even breathe while eating like that?"

Wanda, her mouth still full, mumbled an unintelligible response.

"Look at yourself. Anyone watching you would think you're shoving down entire ham hocks," Dark Wanda added dryly.

Wanda choked on her food, coughing violently. Finn quickly patted her back.

"Come on, not in public," Finn sighed.

After finally recovering, Wanda glared at Dark Wanda. "Can you be serious for once? We're here to eat, not trade insults. If I had known you'd act like this, I wouldn't have spoken up for you earlier!"

Dark Wanda smirked. "I am serious. You're the one overreacting."

Wanda's face flushed, more from anger than embarrassment. "You—!"

"Enough. Just eat," Finn said firmly, his patience wearing thin.

Dark Wanda only chuckled and picked up her utensils, eating more calmly. "Finn, you know... you bringing me here means a lot. I appreciate it."

There was a shift in her tone—softer, almost melancholic.

Finn looked at her thoughtfully. He knew her story. The tragedies she had faced in her own timeline.

"Is that all you wished for?" Finn asked quietly.

Dark Wanda sighed, her gaze distant. "I've fantasized about more. But I know it's out of reach."

She stared at her plate, lost in thought.

"But isn't this enough?" Wanda placed some food in Dark Wanda's bowl, her expression softening.

She had learned about her counterpart's past from Finn. For all the chaos Dark Wanda had caused, she had suffered greatly, much more than Wanda herself ever had.

"This is what I should want," Dark Wanda murmured. "But it's not what I truly want."

Silence settled over them.

After finishing their meal, the trio wandered down by the river. The air was crisp, the sound of waves soothing. A few people sat nearby, casting fishing lines into the water.

Finn's pace slowed as a thought surfaced in his mind.

"That dream Josh mentioned earlier... something about it feels familiar," he muttered. "A few weeks ago, we dealt with an entity tied to nightmares."

Dark Wanda's eyes narrowed. "You think it could be a disciple of Nightmare?"

Nightmare—the demonic ruler of the Dream Dimension. He thrived on fear, weaving reality into horrifying illusions.

"That energy I sensed in Josh... it felt similar to Nightmare's aura," Dark Wanda added grimly.

"But that cultist was taken out by the Shadow," Wanda interjected.

"That's the problem," Finn muttered darkly.

The Shadow.

"Before dying, that cultist cursed me," Finn admitted. "Said that Nightmare's vengeance would find me."

The memory sent a chill down his spine. At the time, he had dismissed the words as the ravings of a dying zealot.

But now...

Now, it seemed like that warning might have been real after all.
