Chapter 130: How babies are made

"Not if they don’t catch me cheating. It’s the forest—we’ll have plenty of chances to sneak it to you." He chuckled softly, the sound hitting her chest and his warm breath fanning the exposed flesh of her breast, causing gooseflesh to rise on her skin and her toes to curl.

"I would prefer I don’t catch anything rather than for me to cheat. There’s no need. I don’t want to win anyway." She stroked his hair and continued to massage his scalp as she spoke. Knowing Rohan, if he were to cheat, he would cheat with a big animal that would end up bringing unwanted attention to her.

When men hunt in Aragonia, whoever caught the biggest had to explain how he did it, and she doubted if it would be any different here as well. She would rather not put herself in that situation and spotlight.

"My ever-so-righteous wife," he murmured. "Just know you can rely on me to cheat for you if you ever change your mind," he assured her. To stop himself from falling asleep, though only intending to rest a little, he decided to tease his wife instead.

Sleeping wasn’t ideal for him in this state. Yet, he wasn’t ready to leave the bed either. He liked it here—his head resting on her breast, listening to her steady breathing and the gentle rhythm of her heartbeat. The way her fingers moved through his hair and along his neck was beyond satisfying. He would rather stay like this for the remaining hours before they had to leave.

There were many topics he could talk about with her to keep himself awake, but he chose to avoid the serious ones—especially the one that bastard Jamie had told him, about the reasons she had agreed to marry him.

No doubt, this marriage served a purpose to the humans just like it did for the vampires. But he didn’t care enough about his people to feel betrayed. As long as his wife wasn’t going against him—which he was sure he’d know if she ever did—there was nothing more to discuss on that matter.

Choosing a lighter moment instead, Rohan shifted slightly, pulling his head back to look at her lips.

Belle was about to part her lips to speak when she felt Rohan’s hand rest gently against her most intimate part through the fabric of her nightdress. She sucked in a sharp breath.

"Wh-what are you doing?" she asked, flustered.

"Nothing," he said smoothly. "I just want to feel your warmth. It’s been a while, don’t you think?" He leaned in closer, his breath brushing her lips as he whispered, "Do you know how babies are made?"

Belle almost choked on her saliva at the unexpected question. She did not know why he asked such a question, but she nodded her head only for him to grin.

"Specifically, I mean," he added. "Not just get married and wait for one to drop into the womb. Do you know what makes a woman pregnant?"

She hesitated, cheeks turning crimson. To be honest, she did not know. She had always thought it was normal that after marriage the woman would automatically get pregnant. No woman was ever told what made them pregnant or gave them a baby, though she had a slight knowledge of it, she wasn’t certain.

Rohan was propped up on his elbow, watching her with that same casual attention that always made her insides warm. She shook her head slightly.

"Just as well," he said with a smile. "But I’m sure you have a sensible notion on the subject. How do you think the babies are made?" he asked.

"I never thought about it," she said honestly. Until now she had not even thought about babies or having his. It had never come to her mind that if she were to want his baby, what would need to be done to have it.

"Oh really?" He arched a brow. "And here I thought the gossips you listen to in your land had answered that question."

"I haven’t dwelled on it," she muttered.

"Then let’s talk about it now," Rohan said, his tone soft but teasing. "You once said it was a husband’s duty to educate his wife on intimacy. You’ve come far, figuring things out for yourself... like in that book you read at the boutique."

He grinned at her when she suddenly ducked her head in embarrassment, covering her face with both palms as if reliving the bold, wanton moment in that carriage ride.

Rohan had been astounded that she had actually done that to him in the carriage as well—so much so that after it happened, he’d needed to get away before he lost all control and let her do it again, only he would do it properly and bury his shaft in her warmth and find his release inside her.

His climax that day had been overwhelming—so intense, it left him reeling and speechless. It was unlike anything he had experienced before, a bone-deep, blood-curdling release that stole his breath and emptied him of everything.

His shy little wife had reduced him to that state without even knowing the kind of power she held over him.

For days afterward, the memory haunted and tormented him. It aroused him at the worst moments, made him restless at night, unable to stay in one place, which was why he spent his days painting and going out to feed every now and then. His self-control had frayed so dangerously that he started avoiding her altogether, only returning to her side once she was already asleep.

He hadn’t allowed himself to revisit that memory until now, because he knew: if he did, he would be consumed by it again, drowning in a desire that left no room for rational thought.

He could already feel himself growing inside his trousers at the thought, but he took a deep breath and instead looked at his shy wife, who was still hiding her face behind her palms.

He reached out and pulled her hands down. "Don’t you want to know?" His tone was low and coaxing. "Knowledge is power, sweetheart. No one told you that?"

She blinked at him but said nothing, only biting her lower lip in a way he found seductive and enticing.

He leaned closer to her, palm sinking into the mattress beside her head as his gloved fingers caught her waist, drawing her closer. Her breath caught. Her hair slipped over her shoulders in long waves, spilling across the pillow. His face was only inches from hers—so close she could feel the heat of his breath, the weight of his eyes.

As her lips parted to ask him to move away so she could sit up, he kissed her.

Belle let out a soft sound, shocked. His grip firmed around her waist. Heat and sweetness tangled together. He drew his tongue across her lips, touching the moisture behind them when they parted.

Belle’s hands came up to cup his elbows, fingers sinking into his biceps. He kissed across her lips, every inch of them, then moved to her cheek, kissing the skin he had the privilege to touch.

Rohan moved to the shell of her ear, brushing it with the tip of his tongue. Belle made a soft noise in her throat as he closed his teeth on her earlobe.

He sucked her earlobe gently into his mouth, liking the way she shivered under his touch. He loved the scent of her, the taste of her, and he’d never be able to have enough.

Rohan kissed his way back to her mouth, one tiny kiss at a time, until he opened her lips and stroked across her tongue. He loved her tongue. He trapped it with his teeth, then he gently suckled it.

Belle made another quiet noise of pleasure, and he kept suckling, liking the friction, taste, and heat of her mouth.

She was surrounded by him, his body, his mouth, and when he pulled back, she lay still, eyes wide, breathing fast.

"How do you feel?" he murmured.

"..." Hot and yearning, she thought but made no sound to reply, as she had no idea what he was doing.

"I am giving you a lesson. This is part of the demonstration," he said softly. "There may be more to demonstrate."

His mouth brushed hers again, light and teasing.

"Don’t be so afraid, little mouse. I won’t hurt you with my demonstration." he grinned slowly.

Belle couldn’t help the bubbling pleasure that curled in the pit of her stomach when he brushed her lips with his again. She decided to silently take in his lesson while at the same time enjoying this.

"Do you want my baby?" he asked with a teasing grin, wanting her to speak.

A baby, Rohan thought with mixed feelings. He had nothing against kids, as he’d never been close to any, but before he was to marry Belle, he recalled the warning of the king. He was to avoid getting her pregnant.

His wife must not have his child, as halfbreed vampires were not welcome anymore in Nightbrook for risk of rising more rogues. But Rohan knew it wasn’t because of that—it was because the king did not want him to sire a child before his own sons.

After all, having a child would be another easy way for him to take the throne. He had signed a contract agreeing he wouldn’t get her pregnant. If he had known he would be marrying her, he wouldn’t have even signed it. Before his marriage, he had thought he would kill his wife on the way.

However, he had no intention of following some damn contract or whatever terms were written in it. If his wife wanted his child, he would give it to her.

"How does it work? To make a baby?" she asked, curious. For some reason, the thought of having his baby made her stomach flip with a strange sensation. Was it even possible for her to have a vampire’s child? She wondered, her gaze fixed on his face, filled with curiosity.

"Let’s start with a demonstration and forget about all that stuff they fed you in Aragonia about wifely duty. Now think about what you felt when I kissed you just now."

She wet her lips, not meeting his eyes.

"You don’t have to be shy. It’s just me—your husband, remember? No one’s here to hear you." He gave a quiet smile. "Now... how did you feel?"

She hesitated, cheeks aflame.

"Restless?" he coaxed. "Excited?"

She bit her lip.

"Where?" he asked gently. No pressure.

She didn’t answer. Couldn’t.

"Here," he supplied for her, sliding a hand across his abdomen over the sheet. "And here." He added as his hand moved downwards and she followed the movement with her eyes, saw how his fingers slipped lower, resting over the place she was familiar with after what happened in the carriage that day. Her heart thudded.

She thought of his kiss, his touches. The heat.

Her own body began to feel queer and melting there in the same place where his hand lay.

"I feel it too," he said softly. "When I see you. When I think about you in certain ways. Sometimes even when I imagine things I haven’t seen yet..."

His voice dropped, dreamy and low.

"Like your back thighs. I think about how soft they are, how delicious they’d be if I run my mouth against them, how they’d taste if I could kiss them, how warm and smooth and..." He lifted his hand. "See?"

Belle stared, stunned by the visible proof of his desire, her face burning a furious red. He was aroused, and it was obvious over the sheet where the bulge had risen up.

"I’m just a man. And I want you."

"Wh-what does that have to do with babies?" Her voice broke into a squeak.

He grinned at her reaction.

"In spite of my better judgment?" He leaned in, eyes gleaming. "I want to put a child in you."
