Married To The Mad Vampire Lord-Chapter 104: The boutique_Part 4
Chapter 104: The boutique_Part 4
The girl collapsed to the ground, clutching her broken wrist and crying out in pain, her body trembling uncontrollably from the sheer agony. Her scream echoed through the boutique, drawing the attention of many vampires who had been shopping upstairs. Curious to see who had killed whom in the latest human fight, they stepped out, expecting to witness nothing more than another interesting brawl.
But every step halted the moment their eyes landed on the man standing outside, tall, unbothered, with the supposed slave held protectively in front of him. The mad vampire... and his human wife!
The other girl, who had heard the human they had insulted was the duke’s wife, fell to her knees and bowed her head, begging for forgiveness. But if Rohan heard her, his attention was now on his silent wife.
"Are you hurt?" came his question to his wife, who was leaning against him, her heart beating in a strange rhythm as she stared at the human crying on the ground with a broken wrist.
Belle heard his voice and shook her head slightly, then let her head rest more fully against his firm, protective chest.
"My ankle... it hurts," she whispered, clutching the front of his coat. Slowly, she turned into his arms—an intentional move to show everyone watching that she wasn’t alone anymore. That she wasn’t someone they could easily step on again. There was someone powerful standing behind her. Someone who cared. Someone who wouldn’t just stand by and let her be insulted.
Her ankle throbbed, but not unbearably. If it had been before, she would’ve downplayed the pain, held it in to avoid causing trouble or drawing attention. She would’ve smiled, said she was fine, and let it pass.
But something was happening to her. Something inside her was changing.
She was angry, furious, at everyone who had stood there and watched her be humiliated without lifting a finger to stop the girls. And more than that, she felt no sympathy for the girl now crying on the ground.
For once, she wanted them to face the consequences of their cruelty. They had been wrong to treat her, or anyone, with such disdain. And now, without even realizing it, she had spoken of her hurt ankle before thinking about what Rohan might do to them in response.
His expression darkened, and without a second thought, he bent and carried her into his arms in a bridal style and began to make his way into the boutique.
"Two of you, come in here!" he commanded the two human assistants, walking inside with the people who had come to gather at the entrance giving him way to pass even before he reached them.
The vampire patrons couldn’t help but feel the shift in the air around the mad lord. Why was it that some humans didn’t know how to keep their heads down and always seemed to seek trouble where it lay untouched? What had gotten into these humans to disrespect a woman who had been announced as the wife of the mad vampire? thought many of the vampires—those who, just a moment ago, had enjoyed the spectacle but now thought differently after recognizing Belle when Rohan carried her past them into the building.
They had failed to recognize her before because she looked different from when she attended the banquet at the royal castle, and they had turned blind eyes to the humans hitting her and the little fight at the entrance.
"I just remembered my daughter wants me to get her a new pair of shoes from the elite shop. I’d better be on my way," said one of the women to her friend as she hurried away from the boutique, knowing from rumors that the mad vampire might make them all pay for simply watching.
"Me too! Wait for me, Lady Elenore. I want to visit that shop as well."
Just like that, everyone quickly disappeared, hurrying away from the boutique to save themselves from the madman. In no time, the place was almost empty.
Cordelia, who was sitting in the refreshments room with jewelry boxes displayed in front of her, was smiling to herself at the fact that she had subtly made the assistants believe Belle was her new slave.
She had a routine of drinking her blood tea from the blood of her slaves, and anytime she came here, the assistants took the blood from her slaves and also bullied the slave—sometimes even biting and bruising them. Though she wouldn’t be able to get rid of the human that way, she knew she had humiliated her and put her in her place.
How easy it was and how fun it would have been had the human been her real slave, Cordelia thought as she reached out to take one of the boxes of jewelry displayed. But the door was suddenly burst open, slightly startling her.
Looking up to scold whoever was stupid enough to walk into a refreshment room that was closed to others for the meantime she was in it, she opened her mouth mid-sentence and froze and jerked to her feet.
"Cousin Rohan," she gasped in feigned disbelief, seeing him carrying his human wife, while he scowled at her darkly.
What was he doing here? she thought, but then asked with concern in her voice, "What happened to Lady Dagon? Oh, my god, your face!" she exclaimed, seeing the red marks on Belle’s face when she turned to look at her.
Rohan walked past his second cousin, nudging her away from his front, and then gently placed his wife on the soft sofa she had been sitting on, tossing away the jewelry boxes displayed on the table to put Belle’s injured ankle on it for inspection, without caring about the priceless jewels he’d tossed to the floor and the boxes that broke from the impact.
Raising her dress, Rohan exposed the red, slightly swollen mark on Belle’s ankle, where she had been bruised before, and the push had made it worse.
Rohan sat on his heels beside the table to look at Belle’s face, where she had not spoken a word other than that her ankle hurt. They had dared to make his woman angry, and he would teach them a lesson they would never forget.
His wife was someone who rarely showed her anger, and even when she did, it never lasted long before it was disarmed. Though he had teased her many times just to see a flicker of it, like when he tossed away that human ring, he didn’t want anyone else to anger or displease her. They had no damn right to treat his bunny that way, and they had just crossed a line they never should have.
"How come, Cordie, you are in here and my wife was left outside, humiliated by those low-life humans?" came his quiet question. "Where is Elizabeth?"
"She... she went to get me dress samples. How dare those low-life assistants insult Lady Dagon?! I sat here thinking they had accommodated her in another refreshments room," Cordelia said, coming to check on Belle’s bruised ankle. But Rohan put his hand out to stop her from reaching his wife.
"Go and get Elizabeth and bring my wife a glass of water on your way," he ordered, ignoring the voices of the pleading humans outside the door of the refreshments room, and also Cordelia’s shocked look at being sent like a servant for the human.
"Me? Let me call the assistants to—"
"Don’t make me repeat myself, Cordie. Go do what I asked before I decide you are a waste of air in the land and clean you up."
Cordelia knew better than to point out the fact that she wasn’t his wife’s slave to be sent around to do her bidding when he used that calm voice to warn her. She had known him long enough to know when he was mad.
Gritting her teeth and clenching her fists, she turned on her heels and left the room, slamming the door behind her.
Once they were left alone in the beautiful, big room that had sofas and racks of entertainment books and board games on the tables, Belle still did not speak and kept her face down on her lap while Rohan watched her. Her cheeks had reddened with finger marks on them, and he knew they had not only pushed but also hit her.
He reached his hand up to trace his gloved finger against the mark, but she flinched as if it stung to touch it, and his dark eyes darkened even more, his expression turning murderous.
"I will make them pay," he spoke with a menacing slowness that glimmered in his midnight eyes, and Belle finally raised her eyes to him.
"Don’t kill anyone again. Please..." she muttered, not saying anything about not punishing them. She did not want him to kill another person whom she would have to come across again one day in the land of the dead, not that she hoped of being there again, but there was no telling she wouldn’t.
The door was soon opened, and Madam Elizabeth came running in with Cordelia following behind, having Gwen carry the glass of water for the human, as she was no servant and would never be reduced to one.
"My Lord!" Madam Elizabeth bowed immediately she entered. "I heard about what my workers did to the lady. I will make sure they regret their actions and—"
"There’s no need for that," Rohan said as he stood to his feet to turn to look at the vampiress who was placed in charge of the boutique.
