Chapter 67: Book worm

"They looked like assassins and they were all enraged." Arthur stated this while still wearing his shirt.

Cyrus hummed as he stood at the window, staring out at the cloudy sky. "When we return to the castle, I will look into it. In the meantime, you must rest." He then turned to face Arthur. "I will make the antidote."

Arthur rubbed his nose and sniffed. "Your Majesty, please accept my apologies for interrupting your..."

"Do not worry, you should get better and stronger." Cyrus cut in and softly narrowed his eyes at Arthur, who nodded slowly and lay on the bed.

Cyrus walked out of the room to see Sage running away with Snowflake in her arms. He smiled and shook his head. She had eavesdropped.

"Typical."

.

Sage arrived at the room slamming the door close and inhaled deeply. Her eyes were widened in shock, and she tightened her grip on the nine-tailed fox in her arms.

"Stakus mages?" She asked in disbelief and let go of Snowflake, allowing the nine-tailed fox to jump out of her arms.

She walked towards the bed, rubbing her face with her hands. Her mother had told her to find the lost portal of Statkus and that lost secrets and information of the mages were kept there, but it turned out that there were actually Statkus mages.

"Why did they stab Arthur?" She questioned, digging her hands into her hair.

"Because they want you and they know that you are married to me." Cyrus’ deep voice echoed behind her in the room.

Sage turned to face him, shocked. "Do you know anything about them?" She sighed deeply, realising she had just asked a stupid question.

Cyrus shook his head and smiled. "Do you really think that I know nothing about your dream and your mother?" He asked and scoffed. "Portal of Statkus," He scoffed and walked towards her.

Sage’s eyes twitched. "You know...?" Her voice was tiny and high pitched.

"I do, and I will not allow you to find that portal, not while I am alive, Parrot," Cyrus replied sternly, leaning in close. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

"What?!" Sage asked, stunned, and turned her head away. "You want to be an obstacle to me finding the truth of my life?"

"Something like that," Cyrus hissed and grabbed her chin making her look at him. "I am protecting you." He added in a quiet whisper.

"From my own kind?" Sage asked, surprised, and slapped his hand away. "Julius was not a mage..."

"Making an example of Julius is awfully dumb Parrot," Cyrus scoffed and rolled his eyes. "You saw the human as your father, but he gifted you by piercing a sword into your body. Remember that Lianna murdered your mother. She is a mage."

"Lianna?!" Sage asked in shock and sighed deeply. "Of course, you know my aunt, and of course, she is a mage."

"You are the last fire mage in existence, I am the last ice dragon, we are both in danger, both unique." Cyrus spoke casually and turned away.

"You are protecting me so that you can kill me yourself at the end." She muttered and lowered her head.

"If you put it that way," Cyrus chuckled.

"I need to find the portal." Sage growled through her teeth.

"Do you want to be stubborn?"

"I want the truth."

"Then we will find it together," Cyrus unexpectedly said.

"Really?" She asked suspiciously, raising her head.

Cyrus returned his gaze to her, his face serene. "Yes, but when the time comes."

Sage frowned at his words. "I do not want that." She grumbled and crossed her arms on her chest.

"To keep your mind off that, I will give you my nanny’s books." Cyrus unexpectedly said and Sage peered at him suspiciously.

"Okay then," She said and smiled.

...

The black demon panthers were by Sage’s sides as she slowly followed Cyrus down the hallway.

Her thoughts were consumed by the conflict of whether she should defy Cyrus and seek out the portal or obey him until the right time.

He cared about her, she knew, even if he wasn’t good at saying cute, normal words to express himself.

Sage was relieved that she was finally understanding him; it meant that their relationship was progressing.

"Parrot." Cyrus called bringing her out of her thoughts but she bumped into him before she could stop walking.

Cyrus wrapped his arms around her and smiled as she looked up at him, her face flushed. "Do not think too much; you will find out everything soon."

He had come to a halt to observe her walking behind him, fiddling with her fingers and lost in her thoughts. She was adorable.

"And you will tell me everything?" Sage asked hoping for an answer.

"I will," Cyrus replied, crashing his lips on hers, sucking her lower lip slowly until she shivered, then pulled away and stared at her flushed face.

"T...the book," she stuttered as she peered into his unreadable ice blue eyes.

"Here," Cyrus said, his gaze drawn to the large doors beside him.

He let her go, and she pushed the door open, revealing a beautiful library.

"Gorgeous!" She exclaimed with delight.

The shelves were massive, holding books and scrolls. The scent in the library made her squeal with excitement.

"I am glad you enjoy books as much as I do." Cyrus spoke calmly as usual.

"The mansion’s library is massive!" Sage exclaimed excitedly.

"Which means you haven’t visited the castle library." Cyrus chuckled. "When we get back, I will take you there." Sage smiled as he continued.

"I would love that!" She giggled. "How many books have you read in here?" She asked staring at him curiously.

He had his eyes in the shelves as if counting all the books present.

"How many do you think?" Cyrus asked and she frowned.

"There you are again, answering my question with a question." She mumbled and he smirked.

"All." He unexpectedly said and walked away, into the library.

Sage snickered, "The ice dragon is a book worm." Then closed her mouth with her hand.
