Chapter 55: Incoming war involvement

Hearing her question, Cyrus’ lips parted slowly, as if to allow words to escape, but he said nothing.

He didn’t know how to respond to her; he had never felt so speechless or conflicted in his life as he did at the moment.

The whistle of the cold wind could be heard, as could their breathing, which was lighter than it had been.

Cyrus rubbed his forehead against hers and whispered, "You are weak because the sea of blood drained your energy. You should rest; I will bring you dinner."

With a heavy sigh, he drew away, and Sage slowly released his wrists, allowing him to move away from her completely.

Cyrus could tell she was disappointed. After all, it appeared that they had a relationship, and it was being built with crumbled pieces.

He walked out of the room, closing the door behind him and relaxing his back against the door.

"Is this really happening?" He asked and slowly placed his hand on his chest, where his heart was located, and felt his heart beat like a normal living being. "She made it happen." He added and smiled, closing his eyes.

.

Sage pouted, mentally slapping herself for asking the question and expecting an answer.

She could not deny that she was waiting for an answer; she really wanted to know. Had he ever hated her? It sounded like a dumb question but she really wanted to know. After all, he did save her from the frozen lake.

Sage gasp in surprise as she heard a familiar voice in her head.

"I will let you live but you will have to do something," It was Cyrus’ voice, back at the frozen lake!

"What?!" She gasped and covered her face with her hands. "How come I am just remembering this now?"

...

Back in Anitca City, Ashton was pacing around the throne room, looking anxious and frustrated.

The moonlight illuminated the throne room, casting shadows from the large windows to the ground and settling on the empty throne.

According to Ashton, Cyrus had gone on a trip at the wrong time, because there was a lot going on that needed to be resolved. Darren escape was just the least of the problems and he knew that there were more to come.

"It is only a week; I just have to be patient." He muttered to himself and came to a complete stop. "It has only been a day, but it feels like a year." Ashton groaned in frustration.

"You do not care whether he is dead or alive." A calm male voice echoed in the room.

Ashton turned around to see Stefan approaching him with a straight face. "I heard a prisoner escaped, a water mage who was imprisoned by Cyrus himself."

"You should not get involved in the castle matter." Ashton grumbled.

"That can not happen, I am in the castle after all." Stefan said softly.

"Return to Ellisuim. Cyrus is unconcerned about any of the lords." Ashton’s dislike for Ellisuim’s dragon lord was obvious.

Stefan smiled and nodded. "I hae never heard of a prisoner escaping from the castle dungeon; it is never happened, so what is so special about this mage?" He inquired, his smile trembling.

Ashton narrowed his eyes at Stefan. "You appear to know a lot already, and yes, this has never happened before. There is only one answer to his escape." He said, thoughtfully rubbing his chin.

"Someone in the castle, close to his majesty, assisted him in escaping." Stefan pondered, and Ashton nodded.

Stefan fixed his gaze on the demon, who appeared to be lost in thought.

’What is going on? ’I am sure he is unconcerned about the mage,’ Stefan ask his thoughts.

"Are you all right?" Stefan felt compelled to ask.

"Haven’t you heard?" Ashton questioned quietly.

Stefan nodded. "The building war between Fireria and Celestia." He explained.

"Yes, and they will soon involve Cyrus in their insanity." Ashton said, concerned.

"King Rodion..."

"The princess is a strong warrior; she will take care of everything." Ashton interrupted and shook his head. "I hope."

Stefan asked, his eyes narrowed at Ashton. "Why are you so concerned? Is it because royal pure blooded lycans are so powerful? The Novikovs are insane and ruthless after all,"

The Novikovs were Celestia’s royal family. They were powerful pure blooded lycans, and were known to be bloodthirsty and ruthless.

Fireria and Celestia had finally declared war on each other, as Cyrus had predicted.

"None of your business," Ashton growled.

"Do they pose a threat to His Majesty?" Stefan inquired, ignoring Ashton’s hostility.

Ashton scoffed angrily and smiled as he shook his head. "Do not act concerned, and do not poke your nose; it will only make you look foolish."

Stefan let out a deep sigh and lowered his head. "Speak calmly..." He trailed off and raised his head, glaring angrily at Ashton, who turned away from Stefan. "We do not have to argue every time we meet."

"Do you have any knowledge of portals that lead to other worlds?" With a deep sigh, Ashton inquired.

"I heard the Alpha heir is in charge of the war." Stefan was speaking slowly.

"Leave the war to the princess of Fireria and concentrate on our problem, Esteban, who is focused on Antica." Ashton scoffed and returned his attention to Stefan, who was looking at him with interest. "If the war comes here, Cyrus will know what to do." He added calmly.

"What is going on in your head? You are keeping something." Stefan spoke up, earning Ashton’s sly smile.

"Getting involved with me will send you to hell sooner than you should, Lord Stefan." Ashton said as he approached Stefan, who was keeping a straight face. "Avoid me, and do not pretend you care about his majesty, because you don’t." Ashton walked out of the room, past Stefan, whispering.

Stefan clenched his fists, took a deep breath, and closed his eyes. "Because I don’t, I genuinely care about her... a lot." He muttered to himself and sighed heavily. "Sage."
