Chapter 54: Worried

"How long will you continue being dumb?" Cyrus asked Sage who was still in his embrace, his voice flat.

Sage was enraged by that question. He didn’t know what happened, so why was he asking?

"I am not dumb," She said through her teeth.

"Stupid then,"

"Keep quiet! Let me go!" She shouted and tried to struggle away from his embrace but he didn’t budge.

The fire mage in Cyrus’ arms couldn’t help but frustrate him. She was becoming increasingly unpredictable, which would send her to a much earlier grave.

He returned to the room after she had fallen asleep to find her glowing in a faint fiery colour. He knew from the faint glow that she had been summoned to the sea of blood, a lost world for mages.

He knew she would probably do something stupid that would keep her there indefinitely.

"Who did you meet?" He asked, wanting immediate answer.

"I am not going to tell you. My answer will be dumb like me." Sage said angrily.

"Hm. Agreed." Cyrus said with a deep sigh.

Sage’s eyes widened not expecting him to say that, she frowned deeply saying, "I met a man.. a dead mage. He told me that the sea of blood is a land of lost souls for mages, he also told me that I was summoned by an ancestor, then he told me to step into the sea to get the truth of my life "

"And you were going to enter a sea of blood, with your right senses." Cyrus said and scoffed in disbelief.

The way Cyrus said it made Sage realise that she had actually almost killed herself.

"He wanted me to kill myself?" Sage gasped in shock.

"The way he died must have been that he didn’t want to die. Seeing a living being provoked jealousy."

"Dead people can feel?"

"Haven’t you heard of vengeful spirits?"

Sage pouted. "It seems everyone wants to kill me now." She mumbled.

Cyrus rolled his eyes at her words. "Do you remember his most important statement? A statement that is deeply linked to you?" He suddenly asked.

Sage squinted her eyes as she tried to remember. She then cleared her throat and mimicked the dead mage’s voice, "You are a naive mage, a powerful one and the only fire mage in existence.. there will always be trouble in your life and soon, you won’t be surprised by occurrences that would happen to you."

Hearing those words, Cyrus’ eyes turned into their reptile like form and sharpened dangerously.

"He really said that?" His voice came out as a low growl.

"Yes.." Sage could hear the sudden change in his voice. "What is wrong?"

"Did he say another?" Cyrus asked again.

"Yes.." She replied and cleared her throat again mimicking the dead mage’s voice. "You will uncover the truth you want to know, a few will be shown to you, others that are too strong will not be showed in other to avoid you being stuck here forever."

Cyrus hummed and slowly released Sage from his embrace. Just as he was about to move away from her completely, she grabbed the thin rope of his shirt and wrapped it around her wrist smiling.

"You were worried." She whispered with a giggle and leaned her face close to his. "Admit it." Her hot breath fanned his face making the deadly glint in his eyes vanish.

Sage smiled brightly. She knew very well that he was worried about her. He was literally trembling when he embraced her.

"Admit it, Admit it, Cyrus Dragos." She giggled yanking the thin rope playfully.

Cyrus’ gaze focused on her. His sliver reptile like eyes slowly turned into their ice blue form, lingering with soft emotions.

"Your smile.." His voice trailed and he placed his hand on her cheek. "Beautiful." He hissed and smiled.

Sage was flustered.

"H..how can you say that to a dumb mage?" She asked trying to control her voice from shaking.

Cyrus chuckled deeply and shook his head. "You are a dumb mage but it is not your fault." He said caressing her cheek with his thumb.

Sage frowned. "Of course," She scoffed and placed her hand on his that was on her cheek. "So, are you worried?" She asked, anticipating an answer.

"Was."

"Oh?" Sage smiled again then sighed deeply.

"You are bothered." Cyrus whispered.

"I want to go back to that place, to find who summoned me and why they summoned me and to find out..."

"The truth of your life." Cyrus cut in and shook his head in disbelief. "The truth in that sea can suck you to become non existent." He revealed.

"Wh..what?" Sage’s voice shook, her lips quivered.

"The sea of blood exposes dark truth to the individual and in the end, scars the individual for life in the process, taking the individual’s life."

"How do you know all this?" Sage asked with shock.

"I know a lot than you think, my dear parrot,"

The man was strange and was obviously keeping a lot from her. How was he connected to her?

He removed his hand from her cheek wanting to leave but she grabbed his wrist making him halt.

"How are we connected? Why do I feel like you want to protect me.. you are meant to protect me? Why do I feel like you do not want to kill me?" Sage asked and held his wrist tightly with both her hands tightly. "Cyrus.."

Cyrus groaned in frustration and crashed his lips on his hers. He kissed her aggressively pouring his anger, frustration, sadness, fear, anxiety, guilt, loneliness, and grief.

Sage felt it all and couldn’t help but shed tears as she was rendered breathless at the same time.

"Cyrus..." She whispered against his lips and he broke the kiss balancing his forehead against hers.

Their breaths were hard and in sync, his hands cupped her face and she wished badly that she could see his face especially those beautiful ice blue eyes.

"Have you ever hated me?"
