Chapter 51: A flare and a snowflake

"Do not kill me then!" Sage exclaimed. "Stop calling me your pawn! I am your wife, not a pawn! Stop confusing me with your unpredictable personality!" Sage screamed and put her hands on his shoulders. "Stop scaring me! Act normal for a change! Make me understand you! Even if it’s just for this trip... Please." Sage pleaded and burst into tears.

Cyrus’ eyes widened, he froze, sighed, and closed his eyes. "All right, if that makes you stop crying..." He paused, chewed his lower lip, and continued. "I do not like seeing your tears, my parrot." He opened his eyes, which were now ice blue.

Sage had never seen him like this before, and she had no idea he would say those words. This trip appeared to be going to be enjoyable.

"Thank you," she said as he wiped her tears away and pushed her hair away from her face.

"No need," he said as he pushed the nine-tailed fox from his lap. "Come." Sage gradually moved closer to him, allowing him to wrap his arms around her.

She smiled and closed her eyes, content in his arms.

Snowflake, who was standing next to the couple, gave them a murderous stare. He was deeply hurt when Cyrus pushed him away. Cyrus seemed to prefer Sage over him.

"There was a time when Snowflake touched my head, and it triggered a vision.. I appeared in a creepy ancient mansion."

Cyrus’ expression became solemn, and he glared at his nine-tailed fox, who was also glaring at him.

"What did you see?" Cyrus inquired, caressing her silky red hair.

"An ice sculpture of a woman... a beautiful woman with her hands stretched out, and do you know what I saw on her palm?" Sage inquired, as if telling him about a nightmare.

"Hm?"

"A flare and a snowflake!" Sage sighed and replied dramatically. "She also opened her eyes!"

Cyrus smiled, digging his hands into Sage’s hair, and Sage shivered at his touch.

His parrot was displaying her cute and interesting side.

A growl was heard, and the sleeping demon panthers immediately opened their eyes.

Sage flinched at the growl, but Cyrus held her tightly in his arms, making sure she couldn’t move.

"What was..."

She was immediately cut off as the carriage came to a halt and a raging fire blast burned the side walls.

The fire seized just as it was about to touch them, and a loud shriek was heard.

The demon panthers and snowflake jumped out of the carriage, while Cyrus carried Sage in his arms and jumped out to see Arthur in his dragon form fighting two other dragons.

"Who are they?" Sage exclaimed in surprise as Cyrus lifted her to her feet and let her go.

They were in the cold woods far away from Antica City, and it appeared that they were already close to Empire City.

"Guards from the castle, my whereabouts have been revealed." Cyrus chuckled deeply and shook his head.

Sage looked at him, stunned. "Who did you tell?" She enquired.

"Do not be concerned, my dear parrot." Cyrus grabbed her arm and flicked her forehead before carrying her into his arms.

"Aid Arthur." He said to his panthers and nine-tailed fox before turning to the opposite side and narrowing his eyes at the ice-covered tall mountain ahead.

...

Ashton sat on the stairway leading to Cyrus’ throne. He appeared solemn, his gaze fixed on his sharp black claws.

His eyes gradually darkened into their demon form, and his breathing became laboured.

"What exactly do you mean? He got away?" He asked sinisterly and shook his head, pushing his dark hair on his brow backwards. "How in the world did he get away?" He yelled at the guards in the throne room, who all bowed their heads.

The throne room had up to thirty guards, all of whom appeared nervous.

Ashton was aware that someone was working for Esteban in the castle. They never failed to amaze him.

"I won’t hesitate to kill you all." He growled.

"Do not think that acting like Cyrus will make everyone fear you." A familiar feminine voice suddenly spat.

As the guards cleared way for Mirabella to approach, Ashton chuckled.

Her hands were crossed across her chest, and her gaze was fixed on him. "You will never be like him."

"What nonsense are you spewing, young lady? Who says I want to be like Cyrus?" Ashton inquired, then laughed.

Mirabella frowned deeply. "I heard a prisoner escaped; you must be the imposter here." She rolled her eyes and said.

Ashton couldn’t believe he was dealing with such a moron. "Your mentality is awfully low, Mira," he chuckled. stood up and drew her by the arm, grabbing her neck and slowly digging his claws into it.

She whimpered in agony. "Did you come here to spite me?" He growled, let her go, and pushed her away.

Mirabella clutched her neck and coughed up blood. "Do you want to kill me?" She yelled at Ashton.

"If only I had permission." Ashton sighed and shook his head.

He then turned away from the guards and returned to his seat on the stairwell. "Speak!" He yelled.

"We have not been to the dungeon in a while!" One of the guards screamed.

"What is going on exactly?" Mirabella inquired.

"You are not aware, but you came to spite me?" With a scoff, Ashton asked.

"I do not like seeing you in charge." Mirabella snapped.

"A prisoner escaped," Ashton informed her.

"I know but who?" Mirabella asked, surprised.

"The prisoner Cyrus captured himself." Ashton responded by pushing his hair back.

"Be more specific! And where is Cyrus?" Mirabella demanded angrily.

"He went on a nice trip with his parrot, and you must not know who the prisoner is." Ashton responded with a mocking tone.

Mirabella grumbled. Her mood was completely ruined when she learned that Cyrus had gone on a trip with Sage.

"Tell me!" She screamed at Ashton.

"A mage, a water mage," Ashton replied casually, returning his gaze to his claws.

"What?" Mirabella was perplexed.

"Oh! A male water mage, "Ashton laughed.

"Darren Aldea!" Mirabella gasped in surprise.
