Married To The Last Ice Dragon-Chapter 44: Trust me
Her teary emerald eyes twinkled with desire and confusion, neither of which came from the mark.
She was flushed, weak, and paler than usual. Her cheeks were rosy pink, and her lips were quivering.
Cyrus didn’t understand himself, but he was drawn to her and wanted to hold her forever.
At that precise moment, Julius stabbed her, he was in his dark state, but he felt his heart, which was supposed to be eternally frozen, skip a beat and he felt fear for the first time in his life.
The woman was making him feel things he’d never felt before. It was frustrating!
"Why are you so stupid?" He asked with disappointment and Sage who thought everything had calmed down between them frowned.
"Excuse me?" She asked offended.
"You actually thought that since you no to reason to kill me, you will break of this marriage didn’t you?" Cyrus asked, his voice hard.
Sage stared at him blankly.
"What?"
"Yes or no?!"
"Yes!" Sage yelled and tried to move away from him but his arm around her waist held her tightly.
She had to struggle, which she did with what little strength she had, but he wouldn’t budge, resulting to her hair being rough.
She screamed in frustration, held his shoulders, and burst into tears.
"What did I do to deserve this? What did I do?" She wailed and cried her heart out, burying her face in his chest.
She couldn’t believe her father had stabbed her. Her own father!
Cyrus’ hand caressed her hair as he whispered, "It’s all going to be fine, you have me."
She froze and pulled away from his chest, her gaze fixed on his face and those unblinking ice blue eyes.
"Are you mocking me?" She sniffled.
"No," Cyrus replied with a straight face and serious voice.
"Do you know why he stabbed me?" Sage asked.
"Yes."
"Why did he sta..b me?" Her voice broke.
"Because he is not your father but an imposter." Cyrus replied, his expression stern.
Sage stared at him like he had a huge mole on his face. "What the hell?!"
"Hm?" His lone brow rose up. "If you like, do not believe me." He whispered and wrapped his arms around her. "I want to hold you like this," He relaxed his back on the bed board. "You can sleep in my arms so that you won’t after any nightmares or sleep walking to death." He whispered and closed his eyes.
Sage hesitantly relaxed on his hard chest.
His voice kept echoing in her head. "He is not your father but an imposter."
"If he is telling the truth, does it mean that.."
"He has been jealous of you since day one? Yes." Cyrus interrupted her.
Sage didn’t expect him to say that.
"I was going to say ask whether I am adopted but your words... Actually makes.. no sense!" She shouted.
Cyrus chuckled deeply, his chest vibrated making Sage shiver.
"So dumb." He taunted.
Sage didn’t know why she was in his arms even after everything. She was supposed to be hating, screaming and pushing him away but she was comfortable in his arms.
"You know." Cyrus suddenly whispered.
"What?" Sage asked, her voice tiny.
"How long have you known that he is not your father?" Cyrus suddenly asked and Sage froze up in shock.
"How.. how?" Sage could barely speak.
Cyrus chuckled again and sighed. "Any normal being would understand right away, parrot. You are not surprised that he is not your father, even though you are upset that he is no longer alive; you are not surprised, and you have not attacked me." He spoke with ease and chuckled again at the end.
Sage inhaled deeply, his scent.. fresh and cool like winter season.
"I found out that day," She whispered.
*Flashback*
Her heart was heavy thinking about her father’s condition. The nine-tailed fox had bitten him so severely.
She needed to find him. They needed to get out of Credia before Esteban and Cyrus started a war.
As she entered the hallway that led to a few rooms, she heard some voices as she got closer to her aunt Lia’s room.
"He is here, and Esteban will arrive shortly." She heard Julius speak slowly to Lia, who scoffed in disbelief.
Sage eyes widened in curiosity. She ran towards the direction and stood beside the room’s entrance.
"I understand." She heard Lia laughed.
"You are accompanying me." Julius growled.
Sage couldn’t imagine that it was her father. He sounded so different. "The killings are brutal there; we will be accompany Esteban to Fireria." He continued.
"I am not going anywhere with a disgusting man like you!" She heard Lia scream and the next thing she heard,
SLAP!
"Do not pretend to be a saint." Julius snarled at her.
"You do not feel anything? This kingdom will be destroyed!" Lia screamed at him.
"Have I ever given a damn? Have you ever been concerned? Remember that you are deceitful!" Julius yelled at Lia.
Dragon roars could be heard as soon as Lia screamed.
"They have arrived, let’s go!" Sage could hear Julius closer and ran away from the entrance.
She had to lure him out so that he would stop beating Lia and to avoid him from going to Fireria.
"Father, Father, Father! Where are you, Father?!" She screamed, her voice echoed throughout the castle.
She stayed still, relaxing her back on the wall when she heard Julius sighed with frustration. "How come she isn’t dead?"
"Do not let her find you, or you will both die in my hands." Those words made Sage shocked. She immediately ran to another direction when she saw him come out of the room.
*End of flashback*
"After that, I decided to find him again but didn’t go back to the room to face aunt Lia." Sage’s voice tightened with pain.
"You will get used to betrayal," Cyrus tightened his grip around her, making her feel safe in his arms.
Sage’s eyes welled up and tears streamed down her cheeks.
"You will betrayal me." Sage whispered.
"Do you want me to betrayal you?"
"No," Sage sniffed.
"I will never betrayal, parrot," Cyrus whispered soothingly and released her cupping her face, wiping her tears with his thumbs.
"I can’t believe that." Sage feigned a smile, her tear filled eyes exposed pain.
Cyrus smiled, a smile that brought out his dimples and he said, "Trust me."
