Married To The Last Ice Dragon-Chapter 207: Memories of friendship 2
Cyrus chewed his lower lip as he watched River, who sat on the ground cradling his unconscious sister. His eyes were filled with fear, and he trembled as he shook her, hoping to wake her up.
Their bruises were too severe, and the girl’s injury was far worse than River’s. Those injuries were unmistakably the result of beatings.
"Wake up." River stumbled as he shook her. "Wake up, Ophelia!" He was terrified.
"Calm down, she is not dead." River turned his gaze to Cyrus, his eyes in their golden reptile-like form.
"Thank you for saving us." He said calmly, and Cyrus nodded, seeing sincerity in those eyes.
"You must leave my kingdom. I have no business with Fireria." He stated flatly and turned away.
"I knew it! You are the ice dragon!" River exclaimed excitedly, and Cyrus returned his gaze to him.
"So?"
"A few days ago, my sister went insane and was severely punished by my father. I thought she was going to die from being beaten with frozen chain every day. Then I broke her out and got caught as well..."
"Who was that dragon you were riding on?" Cyrus cut him off sternly.
"M...my uncle. He rescued us, and we were pursued all the way here." River exhaled and closed his eyes. "I apologize; I know Fireria and Antica aren’t on good terms."
"You are only a child." Cyrus hissed and shook his head.
River looked at him in disbelief. "What about you?"
"I am far smarter." Cyrus’ lips twitched with pride as he spoke.
River rolled his eyes, smiled, and returned his gaze to his sister.
"I have heard of you two, the golden twins, but you haven’t unlocked your golden scales like your sister based on transformation." Cyrus whispered and moved closer to the twins.
"Ophelia’s training has always been more difficult than mine, and she is also more determined than I am." River spoke with a proud smile, his gaze fixed on his sister.
"You adore her." Cyrus leaned in closer, placing his hand on Ophelia’s forehead, then his second hand on River’s forehead.
"What are..?" River exclaimed, but paused his speech when he noticed Cyrus’ eyes glow brightly, and they were instantly engulfed with a bright ice blue glow.
When the glow faded, Cyrus leaned back and stood up straight, a small smile on his face. There were no more visible signs of injury on the bodies, though there was still blood on the skin.
River looked at Cyrus in shock as he realized he wasn’t in any pain and that the injuries on his and Ophelia’s bodies had healed.
"You have the ability to heal?! But, we would have healed ourselves." River pursed his lips, his gaze fixed on those eyes.
"You two are far too tired to do so. Now follow me to my castle." Cyrus smiled happily as he turned away. It was great to see someone his age.
Was it possible that he could make friends with them? Even if he never acted like a child, he was still a child, and nothing could change that.
...
River and Ophelia remained in the castle for next two weeks, under the care of Ashton, who couldn’t believe he had turned into a full-time babysitter, but he was relieved that, like Cyrus, they never acted their age and spoke like adults, making it easy for him to take care of them.
He was relieved that Cyrus had found people with whom he could be himself with, and he had never expected to see the little ice dragon so content.
Was it due to the fact that he was in his normal state? He pondered Cyrus’s relationship if he were in his dark state.
Cyrus, River, and Ophelia were seated in the dining room as the servants began to place all of the dishes on the table.
Ophelia maintained a dull gaze and appeared to be completely lost in her thoughts. River, who was sitting next to her, wanted to poke her cheek, but she slapped his hand away and gave him an angry look.
"What?" River laughed and yanked her hair.
Ophelia frowned and pulled his hair, and they both screamed loudly as they did so.
Cyrus was stunned by this scene. "What are you two doing?" He had to ask, and they paused their screams and looked at him with wide eyes, then laughed as they let go of each other’s hair.
"I was trying to cheer her up. She keeps getting lost in her thoughts." River informed him, and he slowly nodded.
"Ignore him, we should get started." When Ophelia told them, they all started serving themselves.
Cyrus’ eyes transformed into blue slits as soon as he put a spoon of food in his mouth.
"No!" He exclaimed with a whisper.
River and Ophelia both looked at him, surprised. "Cyrus?!" They all called out at the same time.
Cyrus blinked quickly, his eyes returning to their ice blue state before they could notice.
"There’s nothing wrong." While staring at the food, he whispered and formed a strong balled fist.
Despite what he said, River and Ophelia were aware that something had occurred. During their time with Cyrus, they got a sense of his personality as cold and nonchalant, but he was also very unpredictable because he showed that he cared in his own way but never said it to them.
A child like him was king, and they had heard ruthless stories about him, and judging by his personality, they knew it was true, except that they had not seen him do anything like what they had heard since they met him.
"Why are you lying?" River inquired, a slight frown on his face.
At the same time, Ashton entered the dining room, visibly disturbed.
"Firerian dragons have gathered at the border, Your Majesty." He reported.
"Oh no!" Ophelia exclaimed quietly, lowering her head and gritting her teeth.
"They want you two back. I will not tolerate being referred to as a kidnapper." Cyrus stated bluntly before raising his gaze.
River sighed and reached for Ophelia’s shoulder. "We can’t run away from our own home, Ophelia," he said as she slapped his hand away and stood up.
"I am not going anywhere." She stormed out of the dining room, snarling.
"I like her." Ashton laughed.
River looked at Cyrus, who was now staring at him coldly. "Thank you." He whispered and smiled brightly earning an unexpected small smile from Cyrus.
