Married First, Loved Later : A Flash Marriage with My Ex's 'Uncle'-Chapter 393: Strike First Against the People You Can’t Stand
Chapter 393: Strike First Against the People You Can’t Stand
"I-I..." Amelia was dumbfounded.
She was the one whose face was disfigured—how on earth did Selina end up being the one in the right?!
No. This whole thing had to be Logan’s doing. No matter what, she had to—
"The police are here!"
Suddenly, the butler rushed in, two officers following behind him.
Amelia’s eyes lit up. If Logan was taken away by the police, even if he wasn’t convicted in the end, his reputation would still be ruined!
"Selina, I’d like to see how you talk your way out of this now!"
She rushed forward with tears in her eyes. "Officers, you have to help me get justice... I-I was just trying to visit my eldest son out of the goodness of my heart, and now I’m left disfigured for no reason..."
Owen added, "My mom woke up in the middle of the night and found out that both of us had been poisoned. There were only four people in the entire Pear Blossom Estate at the time. I don’t believe my big brother did it, but..."
The two officers exchanged a look.
"Don’t worry, Mrs. Reid. We’ll find out who the culprit is."
Then, one of them turned to Logan. "Mr. Reid, we’ll need access to the surveillance footage from Pear Blossom Estate."
"There’s something you might not know, officers," Owen interrupted, his voice oozing with fake concern. "The area where my mother and I live doesn’t have any cameras. The estate’s surveillance system is... incomplete, so..."
No cameras?
Then the investigation would need to cover a lot more ground—such as who Amelia had interacted with, who entered the courtyard that night, any footprints, fingerprints...
One officer was already reaching for his phone to call for backup, but then—Selina blinked slowly.
"There’s no need to go through all that trouble."
"Sis-in-law, I know you’re trying to protect my brother," Owen sighed dramatically, "but the police are here. No matter how well he hides it, you think he can fool trained professionals? Don’t worry—we just want the truth. We won’t do anything to him..."
"What I meant was..."
Selina’s lips curved into a meaningful smile. "Little brother, you’re behind the times. Pear Blossom Estate had its surveillance upgraded a while ago. There are no blind spots now—not even in your courtyard or Mrs. Perry’s."
"Everywhere. Inside and out. Upstairs and downstairs. Every inch is monitored."
Owen’s face twitched. "That’s not true! There’s no way—"
Just then, the butler stepped in and said, "That’s correct, officers. The only places without cameras are the bedrooms and bathrooms. All the hallways, staircases, and living rooms are covered. It won’t be hard to find out who entered Madam’s room."
Amelia, still convinced Logan was the one who poisoned her, shouted, "Then what are we waiting for? I want to see that footage with my own eyes!"
Moments later, the butler pulled up the surveillance video.
Amelia stared at the screen, eyes glued, watching the timestamp inch closer to 1 a.m.— But still no sign of Logan.
Impossible. No way.
Who else but Logan would want to poison her?!
Owen suddenly felt a knot forming in his gut.
Could Logan really be this bold? To poison someone, then calmly pull up the security footage in front of everyone?
No. No, something was wrong.
But what...
"Is that Young Master Owen?"
The butler’s sudden cry interrupted his thoughts.
"Young Master Owen, what were you doing sneaking around the estate in the middle of the night? And why did you go into Madam’s room—oh my god, what are you holding in your hand?!"
In a flash, all eyes turned to the screen.
At 12:55 a.m., Owen was seen glancing around nervously, holding a small bottle, and sneaking into Amelia’s bedroom.
Selina’s lips curved upward just slightly.
The room fell into silence.
After a long, heavy pause, a doctor murmured under his breath, "Could it be... that the bottle in Young Master Owen’s hand contained poison?"
Amelia had been poisoned at 1:00 a.m.
And the surveillance footage clearly showed Owen entering her room at 12:55 a.m.—with a bottle in his hand.
That was just too much of a coincidence.
If Owen wasn’t the one who did it, then why was he sneaking into her room in the middle of the night? To have a deep philosophical discussion with her?
Everyone’s eyes gradually turned toward Owen, their expressions shifting.
Owen felt his throat tighten, his face drained of color.
What the hell was this?!
He didn’t remember leaving his room at all—much less poisoning anyone! That man in the footage wasn’t him!
"So it turns out... Young Master Owen was the one who poisoned her."
Selina’s voice rang out in the stillness, slow and deliberate.
"Owen, Mrs. Perry might not be your biological mother, but she’s always treated you kindly. How could you do something like this to her? You even went as far as accusing Logan..."
Selina widened her eyes in feigned shock.
"Wait... was this your plan all along? To frame Logan? But even so, how could you use Mrs. Perry’s life as part of your scheme?"
Owen’s face twisted, his voice breaking as he shouted, "It wasn’t me! That footage is fake!"
Selina gave a soft sigh. "Well, real or fake, the police can take the footage back to the station for analysis."
One of the officers chimed in just then, "There are no signs of editing. It was pulled directly from the system backend. There’s no chance the footage was tampered with."
Selina nodded, then turned to Owen, her tone gentle. "Owen, at this point, it’s better if you just confess. I believe Mrs. Perry will forgive you."
"I didn’t do it!" Owen was nearly hysterical.
What was happening? Why did the surveillance show him there? Why?!
Amelia, forgetting her own pain, burst into tears.
"This is fake! Owen would never poison me—I watched him grow up! I know what kind of person he is—he’s so kind, he wouldn’t even step on an ant, let alone poison someone!"
"Besides, Owen was poisoned too! Isn’t it obvious someone’s trying to set him up?!"
Her voice cracked with emotion, so raw and sincere it could almost be believed.
Selina nearly clapped for her. What a devoted mother.
Amelia sobbed into her hands.
"Logan, I can’t believe you’ve become this kind of person. Poisoning us was bad enough, but framing your own brother? I can’t just let this go!"
She turned to the officers.
"You’re here anyway—take Logan away! Whether for Owen’s sake or for the reputation of the Reid Family, I refuse to forgive him!"
"Do whatever the law demands. Don’t go easy on him just because he’s a Reid!"
Owen let out a heavy sigh, playing the pitiful victim perfectly.
"Big brother, you... ah, forget it. I won’t say anything."
"Mrs. Perry," Selina suddenly spoke, her tone light, almost amused, "you believe whoever poisons someone should go to jail, right?"
Before Amelia could answer, Selina turned her head and smiled sweetly.
"Dr. Lewis, how’s Owen doing? Is the poisoning serious?"
Dr. Lewis blinked, then answered truthfully, "Not very. Compared to Mrs. Reid, Young Master Owen’s case is much milder. The swelling on his hand should go down in a day or two. There’s no scarring or permanent damage."
"Oh... I see."
Selina’s voice was smooth, deliberate.
"Mrs. Perry, you said Logan poisoned you both—so tell me, what would his motive be?"
