Chapter 230: A challenge

’Damn it!!’ He could barely react, as the brilliant light from the explosion completely filled his vision, blinding his eyes.

Swiish!!

Those few seconds were enough for the other light spears to close in on him, however, Nathan didn’t relent on his attacks.

Following his instincts, he swiftly swung his sword around, deflecting six of the nine remaining light spears.

The light spears immediately scattered to the side, piercing into the ground before disintegrating into tiny white fragments.

Despite deflecting a good number of the attacks, Nathan still didn’t slow down, hurriedly pumping mana into his legs.

Utilizing the mana swirling beneath his feet, he swiftly leapt backwards, evading the light spear which came crashing down where he previously stood.

Another of the spear closed in on him again, which he quickly evaded by shifting to the side.

The spear pierced through the air instead, stabbing into the ground behind him.

Swiish!!

But unfortunately, he wasn’t able to dodge the last spear, which suddenly pierced into his right shoulder.

"Argh!!" He grunted in pain, his knees dropping to the ground.

After a few seconds, the spear rapidly disintegrated into tiny particles, leaving only a deep would on his shoulder.

"Huff! Huff!" He panted heavily, as blood gushed out of the wound, slowly dropping to the sound.

His grip on his sword slowly weakened, as the pain greatly numbed his right arm.

’This is all my fault... I didn’t expect the first spear to explode.’ He mumbled inwardly, gnashing his teeth in pain and self-disappointment.

He hurriedly tried healing the wound, however, the process was extremely slow as his mana was already starting to run out.

’I should have expected it, after all, she’s a light Elementalist.’ He thought, slowly getting back up on his feet.

His sight was already rapidly returning to normal, and floating across him, he could see the Susan, who had a slight frown on her face.

"So... you can still get up... after that. Impressive..." She mumbled, her breath slowly becoming heavier with each word.

Although she was trying desperately to put up a strong front, her mana reserves were also starting to run dry.

Keeping up an elemental blessing took a lot of mana, and the more powerful the blessing, the more mana it consumed.

At her current strength, she could only maintain the elemental blessing for some minutes, before her mana and stamina would finally run out.

"Ugh... you can try to hide it all you want, but your mana is also about to run out... isn’t it?" Nathan muttered, weakly pointing his blade at the Elementalist.

Susan’s eyes immediately widened in shock at his words, and she slowly gnashed her teeth in annoyance.

"I could say the same about you... why don’t you just give up?" She said, narrowing her eyes at the Elementalist.

"Me... give up?" Nathan mumbled, letting out a low chuckle.

"How about we settle it like this?" He said, his lips slowly curling into a slight smirk. "We both use only last attack, pouring in everything we have left... the ones who’s left standing at the end, wins."

"Huh? What the hell is that supposed to mean?" Susan replied, her expression twisting into a frown.

"It means exactly what it means." Nathan replied. "A challenge to see whose attack would overcome the other."

"What’s wrong? You scared...? That I’ll easily bring you down?" He said, flashing a mocking grin at the Elementalist.

"Me... scared?" Susan mumbled, gnashing her teeth in anger.

"Of course not!" She suddenly shouted, pointing her finger at Nathan.

"I was being merciful when I asked you to give up, but if you want it to be like this.. don’t complain when you inevitably lose." She said, the frown on her face slowly deepening.

"You don’t have much of a chance to begin with..." She muttered, letting out a low scoff.

She didn’t see how Nathan planned to win against her. freeweɓnovel.cѳm

Compared to hers, Nathan’s mana pool wasn’t that large to begin with.

Coupled with that, he was also severely weakened, with a wounded arm and low mana reserves.

There was no way he could stand a change against her, however, she accepted his challenge, taking his words as a hit to her ego.

"Fine, let’s begin." Nathan said, gripping the handle of his sword with his two hands.

"Okay." Susan said, raising her sword up in the air.

’I’ll pour my all into this! Better don’t die, combat mage!!’ She thought, rapidly pouring her elemental mana into the blade.

Fwoosh!!

A large amount of mana suddenly exploded out of the sword, causing gasps of shock all around the hall.

Whirrrr!!

Light rapidly gathered around the tip of the blade, speedily coating the whole sword in its brightness.

’No... not enough... I have to pour in more!!’ Susan thought, channeling even more mana into the sword, while tightly gripping it with her two hands.

Whoosh!!

More light suddenly bursted from the sword, brightly illuminating the stage with its power.

While Susan was busy charging up her attack, Nathan wasn’t standing by either.

Tightly gripping his sword with his two hands, he rapidly poured his mana into it, causing a bright yellow flame to light up around the blade.

’One last shot... that’s what I’ll use to win this fight!’ He thought, gritting his teeth as he hurriedly channeled his mana through his sword.

The reason the mana flame around his sword was usually dim, wasn’t because that was all he was capable of.

He only limited it to that dim flame, in order to prevent his mana from running out too fast.

Unleashing mana flame at its full capacity was still too much for the current him, as it wouid out too much strain on his mana core.

However, if it was just to launch a single attack, then he was free to release his mana flame to its full capacity, without straining his mana core!

"Cleaving light!!"

"Dragon’s... burn!!!"

The two of them shouted at the same time, locking eyes with each other for a brief moment before releasing their attacks.
