Chapter 228: Nathan Vs Susan[2]

Using his blade once more, he deftly deflected the incoming light arrows, causing them to crash into the ground instead.

After blocking the arrows, he swiftly dashed to the side, before unleashing another powerful mana slash towards Susan.

Swoosh!!

The slash wave flew through the air at rapid speed, closing on in the Elementalist almost immediately.

"Light slash!" Susan shouted, swiftly conjuring a thin slash wave of light before sending it towards the incoming attack.

Twisshh!!

In mere seconds, the two slash waves collided in the air, clashing violently against each other.

While the two attacks were at a standstill, Susan quickly stretched her hand forward, unleashing the last four arrows towards Nathan.

Swiish!!

The arrows shot through the air at an even greater speed, speedily closing in on Nathan.

Seeing the arrows rapidly closing in on him, Nathan’s brows furrowed into an annoyed frown.

He hurriedly pumped mana into his legs, before dashing to the side, causing the arrows to fly past him instead.

’Flash step.’ He mumbled inwardly, rapidly channeling mana through his legs once more.

Swoosh!

Suddenly, his figure ’vanished’, reappearing behind Susan in almost an instant.

’An opening!’ His lips curled into a slight smirk, as he deftly thrusted his sword towards the Elementalist’s shoulder.

Flash step was a movement technique taught to combat mages. It greatly boosted their speed, enabling them to cover long distances with a single step.

But due to the huge amount of mana it consumes, it could only be performed by combat mages who were at the third mana core stage or above.

Even then, it could only be done in moderation as it consumed a lot of mana and stamina.

However, just as the blade was about to stab through her shoulder, Susan suddenly twisted her torso to the side.

This caused the blade to miss her, piercing through the air instead.

"Light Beam!" Susan shouted, stretching her hand towards the combat mage’s torso.

Whirr!!

Small white rays of light rapidly gathered in front of her palm, before shooting towards Nathan at rapid speed.

Nathan’s eyes widened in shock, and he quickly tried stepping backwards, in order to escape the attack.

Twoosh!!

But he could barely react as the light beam closed in on him, striking his torso with full force.

"Argh." He grunted in pain, as the beam immediately sent his body flying through the air.

As his body was about to fall to the ground, he hurriedly channeled his mana, landing back on his feet.

’Damn it, i underestimated her...’ Nathan thought, his brows furrowing into a slight frown.

He hadn’t expected Susan to react to his attack, especially since he used a flash step, but it seemed he had underestimated her, a mistake on his part.

Fortunately for him, he coated his torso with mana just before the beam struck him, greatly reducing the damage.

"Light Gauntlet!" Susan’s voice echoed through the air once more, and two thick radiant gauntlets immediately formed over her hands.

"Light Beam." She said, stretching her hands towards Nathan once more.

Whirr!!!

Numerous rays of light rapidly gathered in front of her palm, this time even more than the last.

’Shit.’ Nathan thought, hurriedly channeling his mana through his sword. He didn’t need any one to tell him, he had to block the next attack!

A dim yellow flame immediately lit up at the bottom of his blade, rapidly spreading to the tip.

Within seconds, the whole blade was coated in the yellow flame, which wavered gently around it.

Thwiish!!

Suddenly, a powerful beam shot out from Susan’s palm, heading towards Nathan at terrifying speed.

Without wasting anytime, Nathan swiftly swung his sword towards the incoming beam.

Almost immediately, his blade collided against the light beam mid-air, and he deftly twisted his sword, deflecting the beam to the side.

Bam!!

The light beam crashed into the ground behind him, going off in a powerful explosion of light.

As if that wasn’t enough, Susan’s stretched her other hand towards him again, hurriedly casting another spell.

"Light Beam: Diverge!!" She shouted, deeply narrowing her eyes at her target.

Swiish!

A medium sized light ball immediately materialised in front of her hand, which was still covered with the light gauntlet.

Swoosh!!

With a mental command from her, a thin beam of light shot out from the centre of the ball, heading towards Nathan at rapid speed.

Twish!!

However, the light beam suddenly split into numerous smaller beams, each one flying towards the combat mage at even greater speed.

’How troublesome... she really doesn’t plan on letting me get close.’ Nathan thought, his lips slowly curling into a wide smirk.

He swiftly harnessed mana throughout his body, focusing especially on his blade and his legs, before dashing towards the incoming beams.

Although the beams were much, he knew better than to stand in one position waiting for them to get to him. He would rather meet them head on!

With swift, yet precise movements, Nathan swung his sword towards the light beams, unleashing a thin wave of mana.

Swoosh!

The thin wave of mana flew through the air at rapid speed, destroying a good number of the light attacks before vanishing into thin air.

Nonetheless, Nathan didn’t stop there, swinging his blades continuously at the light beams.

The ones he couldn’t dodge or deflect, he knocked away using a thin wave of mana.

Each of his movements were so precise, and no movements were wasted as he twisted his body, while continuously swinging his sword.

Though there were many beams, their individual power wasn’t even half as strong as the last one, so knocking them away wasn’t too difficult for him.

However, Nathan knew he couldn’t drop his guard.

He knew there was no way Susan expected to take him down using these thin beams, they were probably a distraction, to give her enough time to charge up the main attack!

’That ’main attack’, is what I’m waiting for!’ Nathan thought, finally deflecting the last of the beams to the side.

As he knocked away the last light beam, his eyes met with Susan, who was still standing across him with her right hand stretched forward.

Numerous dots of light immediately appeared around her hand, rapidly merging into a large ball of radiant light.

"Light Beam: Converge!" She shouted, and a powerful beam of light instantly shot out from the middle of the ball, hurtling towards the combat mage at great speed.

The spells "light beam: converge" and light beam: diverge" were polar opposites of themselves.

While the first one merged numerous rays of light into one powerful beam, the latter diverged one beams of light into numerous, smaller beams.

This had been her plan from the beginning, in order to completely overwhelmed the combat mage.

Coupled the elemental boost from the "light gauntlets" spell, every of her attacks now possessed twice greater power!

It was also why she casted that particular spell first, to further boost her elemental power.

Nathan’s eyes narrowed slightly at the sight of the beam rapidly closing him on him, and he swiftly swung his sword towards the attack.

Fwoosh!!

The mana flame coating his blade burned even brighter, as his sword clashed with the light beam. freēnovelkiss.com

The sheer force behind the collision sent out a small shockwave, which fluttered his clothes.

Channeling even more mana through his blade, Nathan tried pushing back against the beam.

However, the light beam violently pushed back against him, causing his feet to slide backwards by a few centimetres.

’Damn it...’ Nathan thought, gnashing his teeth as he poured even more mana into his arms.

’It’s so... strong.’ He mumbled inwardly, his eyes narrowing slightly. ’If I let out for even a second, it’ll hit me!’

He tried deflecting it, but even that didn’t work. Even now, he could already feel his arms trembling, ready to give out any second.

While he was still pondering how to block the attack, an idea suddenly came to his mind, and his lips curled into a strained smirk.

It was a huge gamble, but if it worked, it could be the key to turning this fight around!

Fwoosh!

The mana flame coating his sword rapidly flowed up to the tip of the blade, leaving only a thin layer on the rest of it.

’Inject your mana... through it!’ He thought, swiftly slashing his sword to the side.

Swoosh!!

A long crescent-shaped wave immediately shot forward from the blade, effortlessly slicing through the light beam, hurting towards Susan at rapid speed.

Spurt!

In an instant, the yellow slash wave closed in on the Elementalist, cutting deeply into her chest.

’What?!’ Susan thought, her eyes widened in shock as blood sprayed out of her chest.

’What... happened?’ She mumbled inwardly, letting out a grunt of pain.

She wasn’t even able to see the attack, it was as if one moment Nathan was struggling against the attack, and in the next she was slashed.

She quickly tried healing her injury, however, Nathan didn’t plan on letting her do that.

Whoosh!

’Flash step!’ He swiftly activated his technique once more, reappearing behind Susan in what seemed like an instant.

"Damn it." Susan’s eyes widened in shock, when the combat mage suddenly vanished from her sight.

However, before she could even react, Nathan appeared behind her, quickly swinging his sword at her back.

Spurt!

"Argh!" Susan grunted in pain, as the blade slashed through her back, leaving a deep gash.

’I have to... move away!’ She thought, hurriedly channeling her mana.

"Light boots!" She shouted, conjuring a pair of thick light boots over her legs.

Just as Nathan was about to land another attack, she quickly leapt backwards.

But due to her injuries, she wasn’t able to properly balance herself on the ground, and her legs staggered.

Seeing another opening, Nathan swiftly lunged at her, thrusting his blade at her shoulder.
