Chapter 207: A Frustrated Susan

[And with that, let the duel begin!]

After the match started, they watched as the strange brown haired boy blasted off his opponent with a large massive ball.

[What an amazing display of power!]

[The winner of this duel! Harry Ainsworth!]

The commentator’s voice rung in their ears, accompanied by a loud cheers and shouts by the audience.

The couple remained frozen on their seats with their eyes widened in shock.

’He’s so powerful!’ They thought at the same time, turning to theirselves, only to find the same look of awe on each of their faces.

One could only imagine how insane his talent would be for him to have that much elemental power!

"But... don’t you think he looks quite familiar?" The man suddenly said, jolting his wife out of her thoughts.

"Familiar..." The woman mumbled, her gaze lingering on the boy’s face for a whole, before nodding in agreement. "Yeah, he does look... a little familiar."

"But we don’t know anyone called "Ainsworth", so maybe it’s just... a coincidence." The woman muttered, shaking her head in disbelief.

However, the man didn’t agree with her. The more he stared at Harry through the screen, the more he was sure about his thoughts.

"Could it be... Harry... the same Harry we know?" He asked, voicing out the same thing that was in he and his wife’s mind.

"What?! No... that’s not possible." The woman replied, nodding vehemently. The Harry they knew didn’t even have a mana core foundation, so how the hell would he do something like that? It just seemed impossible.

Besides, Trent told them Harry moved into one of his friend’s place and had long since dropped out of the academy.

The ’news’ didn’t surprise them too much, after all, he had all the reasons in the world to drop out, since he wasn’t useful there in the first place.

Although Trent’s story didn’t make much sense, they didn’t bother about it. They were only overjoyed that there was no longer a need to keep someone as worthless as Harry in the house.

"Yeah, you’re right. It can never be him." The man said, nodding his head slightly. However, his brows were still furrowed in confusion, as even he wasn’t too sure himself.

’If it’s really Harry... does that mean he later awakened an affinity?’ He mumbled inwardly, but after thinking about it a second time, he discarded the thought.

It just sounded too impossible, to the point where he felt stupid for even thinking about it.

Someone without a mana core foundation awakening an affinity that late, and getting that powerful within such a short time? It all sounded like a like of bull shit.

Though Trent’s story didn’t make much sense to him also, it was still a lot more believable than what he just cooked up in his head.

’She’s right. It can’t be the same Harry I know.’ He thought, shaking his head slightly. ’And this person’s last name is ’Ainsworth’. They just look alike... that’s all.’

Nonetheless, the thought still lingered at the back of his mind.

In the academy event hall,

[Onto the next match! From group four, we have the rank one Elementalist, Susan grey!!]

The commentator announced with excitement, making sure to emphasise on her position as the top one elite student.

His plan worked effectively, and the crowd exploded in another roar of cheers.

[...Vs Kenol Rudolf!]

Within a few minutes, the participants climbed unto the stage, taking their respective positions.

Kenol’s face was filled with anxiety, rightfully so, due to the person he was going up against.

As for Susan, she only had a blank expression on her face as she stared at her opponent.

However, while her expression was calm and indifferent, her thoughts were a whole different story.

’That Harry... he has gotten even more powerful since the last time. How is that possible... how is he always stronger whenever I see him?’ She thought, subconsciously balling up her hands into a fist.

’If we faced now, will I be able to beat him? I won’t lose to you Harry... I won’t.’ She mumbled inwardly, clenching her fists even tighter.

She didn’t understand why she had been thinking of Harry so much these days. He was just a temporary teammate, she should simply forget him within a few days, like she did with the others. But... she just couldn’t.

Ever since she found out he was holding back against her, a weird, irritating feeling rose up within her.

How much was he actually holding back... how much of his power did he not display against her?

What was the full extent of his strength? How does it compare to hers?

Different questions popped up in her mind, but the answers to them still remained a mystery.

[Let the duel begin!]

The commentator spoke, joyfully announcing the start of the fight.

Hearing the announcement, Susan swiftly stretched her hand towards the boy in front of her.

’I’ll end this quick.’ She thought, her eyes narrowing slightly.

However—

"I surrender." Kenol suddenly said, causing her brows to widen in surprise.

She simply stood still, with her hand still stretched out.

"I said... I surrender!!!" Kenol shouted, facing the audience as he did so. The noise from the crowd quickly died down when they heard his words, and silence reigned in the hall.

Kenol exhaled in relief, and then turned back to Susan before saying: "Fighting you is pointless, since I know I’m going to lose. By getting into the second round, I’m sure I already secured myself in the top fifteen ranks."

"I have no reason to face a monster like you, neither do I want to. So... good day. Have a nice fight in your next match." He said, smiling slightly before waving his hands at her.

With those words, he turned around and walked out of the stage, leaving the audience silent in shock.

Susan stared at the disappearing back of the boy, before gently placing her hand down.

’He’s right in a way, cause there’s no way he can beat me... but what’s this feeling?’ Susan thought, gnashing her teeth against each other in frustration.

This wouldn’t be this first time a student would surrender even before facing her, but, why did this particular one make her so frustrated?

The reason was simple; she was planning on taking out part her frustration on the Elementalist. Then what, he just forfeits the match?!

There was also the nonchalant expression on his face as he spoke, which only made her even more annoyed.

’Damn it...’ She thought, her eyes narrowing slightly in frustration.

[What a surprise! Kenol Rudolf forfeits the match the moments it starts! And the winner, Susan Grey!]

The commentator finally announced Susan as the winner, breaking the silence in the hall.

The audience immediately started grumbling, throwing insults at Kenol for being such a coward.

However, the boy didn’t care, simply walking out of the hall with his hands tucked in his pockets.

Susan let out a low exhale, before leaving the stage.

’I’m sure we will meet at some point in this competition. No matter what, I won’t lose to you... Harry.’ She thought, her eyes narrowing slightly in determination.

The hurtling of insults at Kenol continued for a few more minutes, before finally dying down.

[Unto the final match in this round, and the one of the most anticipated fight of the event! Sandra Peck Vs Henry Mack!]

The commentator’s voice boomed excitedly across the hall, and the audience exploded in loud shouts and cheers.

Sandra and Henry were the rank two and three elites respectively, and among all the fights held till now, theirs was one of the most hyped.

After a while, the two Elementalists finally climbed up the stage, earning another round of cheers from the audience.

Henry was a tall student with spiky green hair. While his facial features were average, his friendly demeanour added to his charisma.

The two students stood opposite each other, sparks flying between them as they locked gazes.

[Let the match begin!]

The moment the announcement was made, Sandra stretched her hand towards Henry, before casting a spell.

"HydroJet Cannon!" Sandra shouted, with her eyes narrowed slightly.

Splash!!

A large volume of water instantly appeared in front of her, spinning violently before compressing into a medium sized water ball.

Boom!

Suddenly, a jet of water shot from the centre of the ball, hurtling towards Henry in a powerful stream.

"Water Barrier!" With swift reflexes, Henry braced himself, summoning his own magical defences to block the incoming attack.

Slosh!

Water rapidly materialised in front of him, before compressing into a thin, oval barrier, which covered him from head to toe.

Bang!!

The water jet slammed into the barrier full force, however, it wasn’t able to break through the barrier, thanks to the large amount of mana Henry had infused into it.

Sandra hissed through her teeth, seeing that her attack didn’t work.

’Let’s see how you dodge this.’ She thought, raising her hands. "Wind Arrows: Descent!"

A multitudes of wind arrows materialised above her, numbering over fifty in total.

Whoosh!!

Whoosh!!

The arrows surged forward in unison, propelled by the force of the wind, rapidly descending down on Henry.
