Chapter 199: The fourth box

[+150 points temporarily allocated to agility]

A notification flashed across his eyes, and his speed immediately increased tremendously.

The two lightning blasts slowed down greatly in his eyes, looking like they were simply crawling towards him.

’Too... slow.’ Harry thought, before swiftly dashing towards Amanda.

The girl’s eyes widened in shock, as Harry suddenly vanished from her sight. Her hands weakly hung down at her sides, the strong recoil from the spell rendering them unusable for at least a few minutes.

While lightning cannon was a powerful spell, it had a single draw back and that was the recoil it had on the caster’s shoulders and elbow.

This was why Elementalists were strongly advised not to pump too much mana into the spell when casting it, and only do within they were sure their body could manage.

Being careless with the spell could result in the bones of the shoulder or elbows being broken, or even worse, the whole arm could blow up.

She couldn’t even react, as Harry swiftly reappeared behind her, before landing a heavy punch at her side.

She felt the wind literally get knocked out from her, as the force behind the punch flung her body helplessly to the side, bouncing repeatedly on the ground like a broken rag-doll.

Her eyes widened in agony, and she was knocked out a few seconds later, with her body finally sliding to a still at the edge of the stage.

[+6200EXP]

Harry’s lips curled into a slight smirk, as he stared at the notification in front of him.

Though Amanda was in too much pain to notice, when he punched her, he quickly activated [Mana steal] at the same time, using that opportunity to steal away a large chunk of her mana.

This was another thing he planned on doing during this event; using every chance he got to steal... or rather, gain as much EXP as he could.

Though he was still a little saddened that the system didn’t give him any quests, he consoled himself with the EXP he got from Amanda.

But he still hoped he got good quests in his future duels, so he would be able to gather points.

The whole hall went silent, with the jaws of the audience dropped down in shock.

Out of everything they had expected, what they definitely didn’t was for Harry to knock out his opponent with a single punch!

—"Why would you punch her like that?! She’s a girl!!"

—"Such cruelty!"

—"Couldn’t you have held back a little?!"

—"What does it matter?"

—"In one shot?! He’s really strong!!"

"Huh?" Harry mumbled. Contrary to his expectations, the only thing he got from the audience was shouts of displeasure, claiming he should have held back against her.

However, in the middle of all those negative voices, there were still some that still praised his performance.

None of them mattered much to him anyway; whether they were pleased or displeased with how he won, he didn’t care.

[And knocking out his opponent, we have our winner!!! Harry Ainsworth!]

The commentator’s voice reverberated across the hall, announcing him as the winner.

The hall erupted in a cacophony of loud shouts and cheers, with some asserting Harry didn’t deserve to win and others praising him nonetheless.

Harry nonchalantly walked out of the stage, ignoring all the voices of anger directed at him.

The healer of the event walked towards the unconscious Amanda, before healing her with her water magic.

Amanda slowly sat up, and even though her wounds had already been healed, she still subconsciously rubbed her side, still feeling the impact of the punch.

’How... could he just hit me like that...?’ She thought, her gaze turning towards Harry with a deep frown. But seeing that he wasn’t even looking at her, her cheeks burned in embarrassment.

For some reason, she had expected Harry to at least hold back against her when landing that punch, and besides, what sort of Elementalist fought with a punch in the first place?!

What she didn’t know was that Harry truly held back his strength in that punch. He wasn’t as cruel as Trent and he wouldn’t want to seriously injurie his opponent.

Burying her head to the ground, she gently followed the female instructor out of the stage.

Though she had expected it, her elimination from the event still pained her a lot.

As Harry sat down on his seat, he noticed the eyes of the other three in his team linger on him weirdly, especially David, but he didn’t pay them any attention.

[Now, moving unto the next match! Between the rank one student of the academy, Susan Grey!! And the rank seven student, Yasmine Winston!]

The commentator’s voice boomed all around the hall, causing the students to burst into a round of cheers and shouts.

Finally, it was time for the most hyped fight among the first series of duels, the duel between two top ten elites in the academy!

Though they all expected Susan to emerge as the winner at the end of the day, they were sure the fight would still be thrilling, as the participants were both stage three Elementalists.

Within a few minutes, the two girls climbed unto the stage, before standing opposite each other.

Susan, stood at the left end of the stage, her bright grey eyes flashing with a weird expression.

At her side, hung a longsword, which was properly nested in its sheath.

Yasmine, a black haired girl with pitch black eyes, stood at the right side of the stage, with her face squeezed into a tight frown.

She also had a pair of daggers at her sides, which she planned on using as a backup in case of anything.

’I never expected to meet Susan in my first duel, but... here we are.’ She thought, inwardly cursing whoever organised the duels this way.

Nonetheless, she didn’t plan on going down easily. They were in the same stage, so she had a chance... at taking down Susan!

They both had peak grade affinities, but compared to Susan who had a peak grade light affinity, Yasmine had a peak grade fire affinity.

[Let the duel begin!!]

The commentator finally announced the start of the duel, causing the hall to go up in loud cheers of excitement.

Clenching her fists tightly, Yasmine hurriedly harnesses her elemental mana, swiftly casting a spell.

"Fire Scythe!" She shouted, and within a split second, flames erupted within her clenched hands, rapidly forming into a scythe of fire.

With a deep frown on her face, Yasmine swiftly swung her hand towards Susan, launching the two scythe at her.

Fwooshh!!

The fire scythe flew through the air at insane speed, leaving a small trail of flames as it rapidly closed in on Susan.

As if that wasn’t enough, Yasmine suddenly dashed towards Susan, with bright red flames burning around her fists.

She knew better than anyone that just those scythes weren’t enough to stop Susan, so she planned on unleashing another attack, to drive her opponent to the edge.

Susan stared at the incoming scythes with a blank expression on her face, before suddenly raising her hands.

"Luminous Boxes!" She shouted, and in an instant, five boxes made purely of light appeared in front of her.

Whoosh!

With a swift wave with her hand, two of the boxes immediately shot towards the incoming fire scythes, while the other three remained circling in front of her.

Boom!!

It collided with them in the air, the collision resulting in a small explosion of fire and radiant light.

Yasmine’s eyes narrowed slightly, seeing her spell get easily deflected, however, she didn’t falter, as she had already expected this.

She halted in her dash, feeling a slight sense of dread from the three boxes of light floating around Susan.

"Fire Punch!!" Yasmine shouted, gritting her teeth as she threw out two punches towards the grey-eyed girl.

Boom!!

Boom!!

The fire enveloping her fists abruptly surged towards Susan, in form as two flaming fists, rapidly closing in on her.

Despite the incoming attacks, Susan remained calm, only twirling the light boxes in front of her.

"Light Boots." She mumbled, swiftly conjuring two boots of light around her feet before dashing to the side, the light boxes moving with her.

Boom!!

Reaching where she previously stood, the two fists of flames went up in an explosion, sending powerful flames soaring in the air.

After successfully evading the explosion, Susan stretched one of her hands upwards, and immediately, one of remaining two flew up in the air.

"Huh?" Yasmine mumbled, her gaze instinctively following the box.

Twishh!!!

The box spun speedily, before suddenly going off in a silent explosion, dividing itself into numerous thin light arrows!

Whoosh!!

Whoosh!!

Whooshhh!!

The light arrows swiftly started descending down upon the fire Elementalist, causing her face to squeeze into a deep frown.

Hurriedly channeling her mana, Yasmine quickly casted another spell, to defend herself from the pouring rain of arrows.

"Shield of Flames!!" She shouted, stretching her hand towards the incoming rain of arrows.

Fwoosh!

Just as the arrows were about to descend on her, a large shield of bright red flames swiftly formed above her, instantly melting every light arrow that passed through it.

Seeing that her opponent was already distracted, Susan didn’t waste anytime, before sending the fourth light box flying towards Yasmine.

The thing about the spell [Luminous Box] was that, each of the boxes were like a surprise package. Meaning that, each of it contained different kind of attacks, all depending on Susan’s wishes.

The first two simply exploded upon impact, the third contained a shower of thin, radiant arrows, as what ’gift’ was within the fourth, Yasmine was about to find out.
