Chapter 198: Lightning Cannon

Splash!!

Water splashed around violently as the large palm crashed into the ground along with Pier.

Pier’s eyes widened in pain, as his back slammed into the ground with force. He couldn’t even let out a grunt, as water rapidly filled his mouth in the next second.

Fortunately for him, his back didn’t hit the hard ground with full force. The water around the large palm helped cushioned his fall a little, if not, his spine would have snapped into two from that one crash alone.

Nonetheless, he still felt immense pain shoot up from his spine, rapidly coursing through the rest of his back.

He wanted to shout, break free from the hold of the water palm, but the water pressure simply pressed him harder into the ground.

It was like he was drowning, and his more of his strength left with each passing second, with the only thing left being the stinging pains assaulting him from his back.

As if that wasn’t enough, Trent grabbed him with the large water hand once more, squeezing him tightly within its palm.

Just like the last time, only his head was left exposed, giving him air to breathe.

’Da—damn it...’ Pier mumbled inwardly, while coughing out water repeatedly. His eyes had turned red, and his lungs burnt with pain from the water that got into them.

He could feel his consciousness slowly slipping away, however, when he saw the evil smirk on Trent’s face, his heart fell, and he immediately knew... his troubles weren’t over.

Lifting the giant water hand once more, Trent suddenly slammed it back into the ground, with Pier crashing into the hard ground along with it.

SPLASH!!

"Arr—" Pier was about to grunt, but his mouth was immediately shut by the large amount of water that rapidly flowed into them.

His back stung with immense pain, and he felt his chest tighten in agony as the water pressed into him even harder.

Despite trying his best to resist, he failed at the end, losing consciousness as he drowned beneath the large palm of water.

"Hmph." Trent scoffed, seeing his opponent was no longer resisting under his spell.

He finally loosened his grip, with the large water hand following his motion, freeing Pier from its tight hold.

Pier’s body simply collapsed on the ground, his clothes drenched from the water.

The water hand abruptly retracted back into the water flowing around Trent’s right arm, flowing around it slowly, before rapidly disintegrating into tiny blue particles.

Since his opponent had lost consciousness, attacking any more would be a violation of the ranking event’s rules and he could be eliminated from the competition.

[And with a stunning display of elemental power, Trent absolutely overpowered his opponent, emerging as the winner of the duel!!]

The commentator’s voice boomed across the hall, causing the audience to erupt into a series of shouts and cheers.

—"Such insane power!"

—"As expected of Trent... he’s just on a different level."

—"Trent!!!"

—"That Elementalist never stood a chance!"

Trent’s lips curled into a slight smile, as he heard the various shouts of praises directed at him from the audience.

The same female instructor came unto the stage, before healing Pier using her water skill.

She couldn’t help but nod her head in pity, feeling that Trent should have held back against the poor soul.

But as a water Elementalist, and an instructor, she felt very proud seeing such powerful display of talent from Trent.

At least, she could proudly boast of teaching him to the world, even though she wasn’t the one that taught him that particular spell.

After healing Pier, she gently walked him out of the stage, and into the back stage for him to be attended to by proper heath care.

Her spell might have healed his injuries, but given that he also suffered from drowning, it was best to let the professionals do a check up on him.

Pier’s head hung down in shame as he walked out of the stage, feeling very disappointed with his performance.

Trent made a few stretches with his right hand, before slowly turning towards Wes, flashing a smug smirk at him.

Wes’s expression squeezed into a slight frown, finding the smirk on Trent’s face irritating.

However, he couldn’t help but feel a chill run down his spine, as he recalled the amount of elemental power contained within Trent’s water hand spell.

It was on a completely different level from his cobra’s bite spell.

While his was very impressive, there were still some mistakes in the details, especially in parts like the fangs and its eyes, but Trent’s was completely different!

If anything, it was a lot closer to perfection. Not only were the water molecules perfectly fused together, but the elemental mana threads used in creating the large hand were also intricately connected to each other.

Though Trent’s higher talent in water magic contributed greatly to this, just thinking about how Trent was able to cast a spell better than him annoyed him greatly.

’Can’t believe I was actually praising that idiot.’ He thought, letting out a low hiss. However, no matter how he hated to admit it, Trent had gotten a lot more powerful compared to before.

’It doesn’t matter, I’ll never let you win against me.’ He thought, as he clenched his fists tightly. ’I’ve gotten stronger also.’

Meanwhile, Harry’s eyes flashed with a strange glint as he watched Trent gently walk out of the stage with a smug smile on his face.

’Those elite students really have all the cool spells.’ He thought, with a wry smile on his face.

[After that thrilling duel, we’re are now moving on to the next match!]

[From group three, the next match on the list! Harry Ainsworth Vs Amanda Williams!! Let’s make some noise as they both climb unto the stage!!!]

The commentator spoke, announcing the next match, with the audience cheering loudly in anticipation.

While the last match ended quickly, it was still very thrilling to watch, fuelling the anticipation of the spectators as they eagerly waited for the outcome of the upcoming duel.

Amanda slowly turned her head towards Harry, her eyes flashing with a weird glint before she stood and started walking towards the stage.

Harry followed behind her, with a blank expression on his face.

He noticed a couple of gazes lingering on him, like Trent and David, who sat beside him, but he simply ignored them.

After a few minutes, they both got to the stage, climbing it before standing opposite each other.

’Probe.’ Harry mumbled inwardly, using this chance when the match had not started to scan her stats.

’For a stage two Elementalist, her stats sure are impressive.’ Harry thought, before closing the tab in front of him.

Since he watched her during the other rounds, he knew that she was also a Lightning Elementalist, however, he didn’t know her affinity grade.

[Since the both participants are ready, let the duel begin!!]

The commentator suddenly announced the duel, causing the event hall to go up in a loud round of cheers and shouts.

The moment the duel began, Amanda wasted no time before going on the offensive.

"Lightning Arrows!" She shouted, hurriedly channeling her before casting a spell.

Blitz!

Blitz!

Almost immediately, four thin arrows made purely of lightly rapidly materialised in front of her, before shooting towards Harry at rapid speed.

However, Harry simply stared at the incoming attacks with a blank expression on his face.

While the arrows were very fast, to him, they were still quite slow.

’Too slow.’ He mumbled inwardly, easily evading every one of the arrows.

Swiftly stretching his hand towards her, he instantly unleashed his own attack.

Blitzzz!!

’Lightning Ball.’ He thought, and immediately, a small ball of lightning appeared in front of him before blitzing towards Amanda at insane speed.

’He didn’t even chan—’ Before she could even complete her thoughts, the lightning ball swiftly closed in on her.

Her eyes widened in surprise, and she could barely react as the lightning ball slammed into her abdomen, before blasting into a powerful series of blue sparks.

"Arrgh!!" She grunted loudly, as the lightning sparks electrocuted her upper body, sending a stinging pain across her spine.

The force behind the blast sent her flying by a few meters, and her body crashed into the hard ground at the far end of the stage.

’Damn it! That was just a tier one spell... yet, it had so much power.’ She thought, her left hand tightly clutching her abdomen.

Despite already landing an attack, Harry simply stood there, not bothering to immediately follow up with another one.

’He’s just standing there?’ Amanda thought, her face squeezing into a deep frown as she slowly stood back up on her feet.

She felt like Harry was looking down on her, and that left a bad taste in her, especially since they were in the same mana core stage.

’Fine, let’s see how you dodge this!’ She thought, pulling her hands backwards in preparation for an even more powerful spell.

Blitz!!!

Blue lightning sparks rapidly appeared around her arms, crackling violently, before tightly compressing around her hands, looking like a large lightning gauntlet.

"Lightning Cannon!!" She shouted, pushing her hands towards Harry as if to throw a punch.

Blitzzz!!

Almost immediately, the lightning compressed around her arms shot towards Harry like a blast from a cannon.

’Accelerate.’ Harry thought, his brows furrowed slightly when he saw the speed of the incoming lightning attacks.

Though he was might be able to dodge even with his normal speed, he didn’t want to underestimate her too much and decided to use his speed-boost skill.
