Magus Bloodlines.-Chapter 50: Competition Instructions.
Chapter 50 - Competition Instructions.
"Oh sweet seven hells," Gavin muttered as he turned and saw the twins standing across the lobby. The male twin, Erick, stood there, staring daggers at Gavin and Erza. His arms were crossed over his chest as he stood across the lobby with the rest of the Daedalus academy students.
"You guys really want another ass beating, don't you?" Erza growled out low. Her eyes were already glowing yellow in anticipation of another fight. She took a step forward, ready to continue the fight from earlier in the morning. Helena and Jackson stepped in front of their alphas facing the students from Daedalus. Gavin raised an eyebrow at the way Helena and Jackson cut them off before starting the fight.
"What are you two doing?" Gavin asked his beta's. He was more than ready and willing to open a can of whoop ass on these lion clowns. He glanced at his beta, Gavin's eyes already glowing red in anticipation of an upcoming fight. He was tired of dealing with these guys already. They were cocky, power-hungry and had a superiority complex that Gavin just didn't care for.
Jackson turned to face Gavin. He noticed the red glow in his eyes and the matching yellow glow in Erza's. This was not the place for them to bust loose and start a fight. Not when the competition was about to take place. He placed a hand on Gavin's shoulder and said, "Not here, not now boss. Wait until the battle begins out in the competition. Make the loss mean something to them," Jackson said in a hushed tone. He didn't want to give them any reason to try keeping Gavin and Erza out of the fight.
Gavin hesitated for a moment, considering the words of Jackson. It made sense in a way. This wasn't the time for him to go all out. But it will come. Gavin glanced back at the twins across the lobby. The staff in the room already seemed on edge as they witnessed the confrontation. The already tense atmosphere seemed to become electrified as the two alpha shifters sized each other up.
"You're right buddy. They can wait until it's time to get declawed," Gavin said confidently as he glared at Erick and Kayla. He shot them a smug smirk as he turned his back to them, knowing that would set the animal in them off even more. "Soon enough, you and I will dance again buddy," Gavin called out to Erick. He flashed his canine fangs at the lion shifter as he knew that would antagonize the boy.
One of the staff members in the room came from around the desk he was working at. "Woah there guys. Save it for the arena battles," the man said as he stepped in the middle of them. He held his hands up on either side, his palms facing each group. "There will be no fighting in this lobby, do you understand?" he said as he looked from one side to the other.
Erick gritted his teeth and backed down. If he was going to beat the students from Allario, it would be in a sanctioned fight. He would make his school proud by taking these punks down. Erick grabbed his sister and walked back towards their group.
The double doors swung open, and a few staff members came walking in with a strong stride and sense of purpose. "Everyone, gather around for instructions!" the lead staff member said. He was a taller man with an athletic build. He wore a long black coat on over a shirt and jeans.
Students from both sides of the room started walking over. Gavin and Jackson made sure to keep themselves between their females and the students from Daedalus. Helena even went to pull Erza back further from the crowd of students. Erza bit back a soft smile at the actions of her friends. No, of her pack. They acted as one, without any thought or communication. She doubted they even understood or realized what they were doing.
As the students gathered around, the man in the front lifted a remote and clicked a few buttons. A holographic display appeared in the center of the room. The names and faces of all the students participating in the competition showed up on the roster. All the names were placed on a bracket system. One student from Allario academy was paired up with a student from Daedalus academy. They were arranged into twelve battles per block and five blocks in all. Sixty battles total for the first round of the competition.
"This is the schedule for the next two days. The first three blocks will battle it out tonight. The other two blocks will finish tomorrow and the next round will begin after that. The only rule is no death, accidental or otherwise. Staff members will be on standby and will intervene if it is deemed necessary. The point of this competition is to build bonds with other Magi and to test the extent of your training," the man began to explain.
"There will be recruiters and promotors this week during the event. They will be evaluating you students on possible future career opportunities. So it is very important for your future after this academy to give your best performance," the man said as he looked around at all the young adults gathered in the room. This was an impressive-looking bunch of students, and should put up one heck of a good show for the crowd.
"Now in the grand arena, up to ten matches can be held at once. So we will be moving through every match as quickly as we can. Once the first ten matches are started, we will wait until the last match finishes before starting the next batch. Each match will have a fifteen-minute timeframe. If one student or another is not rendered the victor by knock out, then it will be up to the judges based on a point system of how well both students performed," the man continued.
"I highly recommend everyone to do their very best if they want to ensure a spot in the final round," the man finished.
A giant roulette wheel appeared on the digital holoscreeen and all the names began to randomly sort through the bracket. There was one student from each school assigned to the other. Exactly thirty matches were set up for the first round of battle. "With all the instructions complete, I wish you all good luck," the man said as he left the room while everyone checked the list of names for who would be their opponent.
Gavin grinned with excitement as he noticed who his first opponent was. Erick Lyons. Thankfully Gavin wouldn't have to wait long; he was in the first round of ten to fight. He looked over his shoulder to see Erick glaring at him with obvious hatred. He blew him a kiss that Gavin knew would infuriate the alpha shifter and laughed at his reaction. Today was going to be a great day.
