Lord Evolution: Starting With SS-rank Skills-Chapter 229: Migration ( 79 )
The low scream of the Forest Eater began like the familiar whistle of an electric kettle on the verge of boiling. Yet, there was nothing comforting about it. The sound carried a dangerous pitch that tore through the protective bubble shield in an instant, ripping straight into Rowan and Blaze’s ears. Both dropped to the ground, their faces contorted in agony.
A sharp, searing pain knifed through their heads, leaving them utterly disoriented. Their thoughts scrambled, they were unable to focus or comprehend their dire situation. It felt as if their minds were caught in a swirling chaos of sound, making every second more unbearable than the last.
All at once, an echoing series of notifications erupted in Rowan’s mind:
DING! [ ERROR ]
DING! [ ERROR ]
DING! [ ERROR ]
DING! [ ERROR ]
The system’s error messages clashed with the high-pitched wail, compounding the relentless assault on his senses.
Rowan winced in pain, wondering how the Forest Eater’s scream could possibly interfere with his system. It was a question that burned in the back of his mind, but the piercing noise made it impossible to focus.
"This is freaking painful! If just the scream can do this, what would happen if that thing launched a real attack? We’d be finished in seconds! How are we going to survive against this monstrosity??" Rowan’s mind wandered amidst the pain.
For two excruciating minutes, the torturous sound continued. The Forest Eater’s scream hammered away at their defenses, indifferent to their pain and desperation.
At last, the noise died down, leaving only a faint, haunting echo behind.
By then, Rowan and Blaze lay prone on the ground, drenched in sweat and trembling. Blaze’s ears and eyes had begun to bleed profusely. Rowan’s hands shielded his ears, however, they were stained with his own blood, dripping profusely from his ear.
After the scream ended, the damage it had dealt began revealing itself.
Blaze struggled to stand and, after succeeding, maintaining balance became an extremely difficult task. He staggered and fell back to the ground. Rowan, still on the ground, could only curse his bad luck—his only companion was weak!
"Go back into the beast plain, Blaze." Rowan said, opening the divine beast plain and sending him inside.
Now alone with the monstrous Forest Eater, who remained unmoving, Rowan summoned his last bit of strength and stood up.
Thanks to his Eclipse Vision, he could see clearly in this dark night, even the slightest movement from the Forest Eater couldn’t go unnoticed with his extraordinary sight.
But Rowan noticed no movement from this monster.
"Why?" he wondered.
The special skill of this monster described it as one that ate to grow stronger, and monsters are naturally power-hungry freaks. Considering that, this Forest Eater should naturally be trashing the whole place right now, trying to eat Rowan and absorb the energy (evolution points) he possessed.
While its large eyes were fixated on Rowan, it didn’t have the slightest urge to attack.
Rowan wondered why it screamed earlier... What was its purpose? Was it trying to see if Rowan and Blaze could survive, to test their strength?
’What if I try to escape?’
This thought flashed in Rowan’s mind.
If he escaped and the Forest Eater didn’t chase after him, he would get his men and travel further away from it.
’I am not ready to face something this strong, now. Even with the combined strength of all my evolved soldiers, myself, and the power of Blaze, Dragun, and Vishirk, defeating this Forest Eater would still be impossible,’ Rowan reminded himself.
Not wasting time, he turned his back on the Forest Eater and zapped towards his men.

At that moment, the soldiers had just finished clearing the horde.
Most of the soldiers relaxed on the ground in the middle of the bloody field to catch their breath after such a tedious battle. A few of them were badly wounded, and their colleagues tended to their wounds.
Bryce ordered the newly evolved soldiers to take care of harvesting the monster cores while the others relaxed.

"Is Lord Rowan okay?" Winston brought up the worrisome question.
Worried expressions appeared on the captains’ faces at the query.
Roland was about to respond when suddenly an excruciating sound blasted across the battlefield.

It was the scream of the Forest Eater.
"Ahhhh! My ears, my eyes... I feel like they are going to explode!"
"My ears!!"
"Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!"
Soldiers collapsed to the ground, covering their ears while wincing and crying out in painful agony.
Including Bryce and the other evolved soldiers, everyone was on the ground holding their ears and twisting their bodies as the sound banged against their beings.
The sound filtered through their olfactory lobes and into their brains, shaking it chaotically, rendering their thoughts and reasoning inactive.
The torturous pain lasted for two minutes and then came to an abrupt halt.
Unlike Rowan and Blaze, who took seconds to regain their composure, it wasn’t the same for these weak soldiers.
They continued holding their ears and crying out in pain. Some even lost consciousness due to the agony.
Another two minutes passed before Bryce and a few evolved soldiers finally regained composure, but they found it difficult even to stand.
"What was that sound?" they asked curiously, fear evident in their voices.
The scream of the Forest Eater sounded unlike anything from the numerous monster races they had gone up against. In fact, none of them even traced the sound to known monsters.
"Could this be the handiwork of the dark creature Lord Rowan warned about?" Winston wondered aloud.
Bryce considered the possibility but shook his head. He suspected the sound had something to do with the heavy footsteps earlier.
"It must be a really powerful and strange monster... It is not even nearby, and its voice could’ve ended us if it lasted for two more minutes. How strong is this monster? Lord Rowan must be facing it at this moment, how is he faring?" Bryce muttered while observing the other soldiers who were still lying immobile on the ground.
He was about to check on them when Rowan appeared out of the woods.
"We have to leave right away!"
