Lord Evolution: Starting With SS-rank Skills-Chapter 228: Migration ( 78 )
It was the darkest hour of the evening; the sun had already disappeared, leaving the sky vacant for the moon to take its place.
In a random area of the vast, dark forest, a Winterseed soldier could be seen fighting desperately against a monstrous foe, while the darkness clouded their sight. They fought based on pure instinct, their expressions cold and serious.
Rowan and Blaze were actively striving to prevent death as much as they could. Though it was tedious, both of them had the energy to persevere, preventing further casualties.
It had been two hours into the battle, and more than fifty soldiers had already begun evolving—about twenty had successfully evolved, currently testing out their newfound strengths amongst themselves.
The other unevolved soldiers performed their best against the monsters, with the hope of evolving like their peers.
They had already managed to slay half of the monster population.
As more soldiers evolved and left the battlefield, the ratio of monsters to Winterseed men increased bit by bit, lengthening the battle.
But this was understandable to everyone— to break through the human limit, they had to adapt to difficult situations first, learning to rely on themselves in times like these.
Rowan and Blaze were still patrolling the battlefield and assisting as best as they could when suddenly the ground around them quaked.
The sound of something extremely gigantic thumping the earth spread across the battlefield, stirring different emotions among the soldiers.
"What was that?" the soldiers voiced, confused and scared.
Winston and the others were very surprised as well.
"Something strong is approaching," Rowan muttered.
He could feel it—the energy radiating from this foe was stronger than anything he had ever sensed. It was far stronger than the most powerful E-rank monster he had fought before, and judging from the sound of its footsteps, it should be twice the size of the biggest monster he had ever encountered.
Not only Rowan, but even Blaze sensed the immense danger approaching the battlefield and informed Rowan telepathically.
"We can’t let this enemy into our midst; it would easily obliterate not only the soldiers but even the monsters. Only the two of us are strong enough to face something this mighty," Rowan suggested.
Blaze nodded.
"Winston, Bryce, and the rest of you—take care of the battlefield while I’m away," Rowan barked orders at the evolved soldiers.
"What is happening, Lord Rowan? Where are you going?" Roland asked, his voice tinged with panic.
"Something really strong is approaching. I’ll handle it with Blaze. You guys stay here," Rowan explained hurriedly.
He signaled Blaze, and both of them blasted into the woods, disappearing from sight.
"How strong might this monster be?" Winston asked curiously.
"To make Lord Rowan so worked up, I guess it is stronger than anything we could ever imagine. Let us hope Lord Rowan and Blaze succeed in taking it down," Roland replied.
The others nodded and returned their attention to the battle.
After evolving, their eyesight had become clearer than that of an ordinary soldier.
While it wasn’t as potent as night vision, it was sufficient to see somewhat more clearly in the dark.
If the other soldiers had their kind of eyesight at that moment, they would have faced the monsters in the dark without difficulty. This battle would have ended in less than two hours.
While they guarded, Rowan and Blaze zigzagged through the woods, approaching the gigantic foe.
The thumping sound continued, growing louder and more powerful as they neared, the quake even more volatile.
After about thirty seconds, they finally arrived in front of the monstrous creature.
Its sheer size caused Rowan and Blaze to come to an abrupt halt.
"So huge..." Rowan muttered, gazing at the gigantic monster.
The monster also stopped, giving Rowan and Blaze the opportunity to take in its insane appearance and build.
The creature’s sheer form was difficult to describe—it had a humanoid build, with elongated hands and short, thickened legs. It was as tall as the tallest tree in the vicinity, yet its thumb seemed to be the size of a newborn’s.
Its skin was brown and rough, like the bark of a tree. Its face bore two large, round eyes that now stared down at the two men beneath it. Its mouth was wide open, big enough to swallow a full-grown horse without expanding.
Its appearance and build confused Rowan, even given the character status that appeared on his HUD.
[ Lower-Forest Eater ( C ) ]
[ Health - 100% ]
[ Special skill - Eat ( B ); Eats everything and absorbs energy, has a 45% chance of awakening one of the special skills of the living being consumed ]
[ Status: Pissed, hungry ]
Rowan was still confused about how such a creature could exist. But his confusion soon turned to panic as he observed the rank of the monster and the skill it possessed.
"Fucking hell, it’s a C-rank monster with an insane skill..." Rowan yelled inwardly.

Beside Rowan, Blaze was already shivering in fright as he gazed upon the massive Forest Eater.
"Is it even possible to slaughter something so massive and powerful?" Rowan panicked internally.
Even his strongest companion—Blaze—was trembling.
Rowan himself was just E-rank, and even as a D-rank or C-rank, it would be nearly impossible to slay something of such magnitude.
In fact, they were already more than fortunate that the Forest Eater hadn’t attacked yet.
Well, their luck didn’t last for long.
[ The mouth, it’s moving! ]
Blaze frantically drew Rowan’s attention to the Forest Eater’s mouth, which was beginning to open even wider.
Rowan’s eyes furrowed as he wondered what the Forest Eater was about to do.
He braced himself, quickly activating a Water Magic spell— a bubble shield over himself and Blaze—even though he knew it wouldn’t be enough to withstand even the weakest attack from such a powerful entity. It was the only form of defense he possessed, and he wasted no time utilizing it.
Both master and pet fixed their eyes on the powerful entity in front of them.
Seconds passed and turned into a minute, yet there was no movement from the Forest Eater except its mouth slowly opening. This movement was extremely gradual and would have gone unnoticed by others.
Rowan and Blaze were about to question this movement when suddenly a sharp sound blasted from its mouth, wreaking unbelievable havoc.
