Live Strong in the Wilderness-Chapter 181: The Hunted Team
Lu Ke sat at the doorway for a while, then went inside to lie down.
She knew that only by returning to normal as quickly as possible would be the best way to repay Xu Yi.
Otherwise, every day delayed would affect the progress.
By noon, Lu Ke’s condition was already better, her headache and sore throat had significantly eased.
So after lunch, Xu Yi brewed some mint water for Lu Ke.
For Xu Yi and Lu Ke, today was a rather uneventful day.
But for Lu Yao and Wang Jin, it was an extremely thrilling day.
Because they were being hunted.
The ones hunting them were animals resembling apes, but with heads that looked like civets. Moreover, they used stones to attack.
Luckily, they weren’t as fast as Lu Yao and Wang Jin, otherwise, both would have been injured under their siege and eliminated.
"Sis, what do we do now?" Wang Jin asked as she ran, since there were 8 of them chasing. If they stopped to fight, they would definitely lose.
"Keep running, they’re not very fast, we’ll eventually shake them off," Lu Yao responded. Her arrows were already used up, more than a dozen, but none had killed one, one was hit, but it didn’t take its life.
"An hour ago, you said the same thing..." Wang Jin retorted with some speechlessness, but she also felt that besides running, there seemed to be no other solution.
"Their endurance should be limited, we just need to hang on a little longer." Lu Yao thought that if there were only 4, she would’ve stopped and fought desperately long ago.
Sadly, there were eight of them.
Every single one had sharp claws, in a few rounds, they could probably tear them to pieces.
"These creatures are too persistent, over an hour and they haven’t given up."
"These animals look just like our apes, maybe they’re quite intelligent, already using stones to attack."
"But that’s the extent of it, if they pick up bows and arrows, then it would truly be terrifying."
"Judging by their appearance, they don’t seem to have high intelligence, at most like chimpanzees, that’s already formidable."
"This animal should be carnivorous, unlike omnivores, indicating they’re pure wild beasts."
"Wanzi and cousin are so unlucky, being chased for so long, over an hour. These creatures have great endurance, not giving up until they succeed!"
"There are too many of them, if half were gone, I believe my cousin would dare to stop and fight!"
"Come on, if there were one or two, they’d have a chance, with four, they’d definitely fail. These creatures are far scarier than wolf packs. If you encountered wolves, you could climb trees to escape and then use branches to craft spears for attacking. These creatures can climb trees."
"My cousin is a female special forces soldier, with a machete, could one-on-three be a problem? After so many days of training, Wanzi should have no issue facing one."
"I’m worried about how long Wanzi and her companions can last, running for over an hour, their stamina must be nearing exhaustion."
"Quick, head to Xu Yi’s camp, it’s impossible to return to their own."
"Damn, that’s harsh, Lu Ke is sick, going to Xu Yi’s camp to cause trouble?"
"Isn’t Xu Yi really strong? He even killed a leopard, dealing with these creatures shouldn’t be difficult, right?"
"Heh, how do you know these animals aren’t stronger than leopards? Perhaps leopards would be easy prey for them."
"Trouble they stirred up themselves, they should solve it, why ruin Loli Ke and the others?"
In the jungle, Wang Jin and Lu Yao got closer and closer to Xu Yi’s camp.
Wang Jin glanced back, the creatures were 30 to 40 meters behind, occasionally letting out eerie cries.
After an hour, still chased closely, which left Wang Jin quite helpless.
"How about considering Xu Yi’s camp?" Wang Jin thought that if they rely on the camp, they could organize a more effective counterattack.
"No way, Xu Yi’s camp’s fence is too low and not strong enough to stop them." Lu Yao refused outright, she certainly wouldn’t want to bring danger to Xu Yi and Lu Ke.
Last time Xu Yi had saved her once, she couldn’t lead these creatures to his camp again.
"What if Xu Yi and Lu Ke are at the camp?" Wang Jin thought, Xu Yi and Lu Ke had strong hunting skills, they might have powerful weapons to deal with these animals.
"Impossible, they should be out hunting. If they were at the camp during such situations, we must not drag them into danger again. If worse comes to worst, we can choose to give up." Lu Yao felt that she’d rather sacrifice herself than have Lu Ke and Xu Yi fall into this crisis.
"No, can’t give up, keep running, run back to our own camp." Wang Jin gritted her teeth; being chased by a pack of animals and then giving up felt too humiliating.
She’d rather turn back and fight, even if she lost, than give up now.
"Then don’t speak, run as far as you can." Lu Yao said, casting a glance behind.
The creatures were still closely pursuing, showing no signs of giving up.
Being chased like this and forced to escape was a first for Lu Yao.
There’s no choice, with their strength too low, they could only flee.
Though it felt humiliating, this was the reality.
Stopping to fight head-on was indeed brave and bold.
But the outcome?
Either they would both be killed, or they would hit the ’give up’ button.
Victory?
Lu Yao felt there was no chance, a pyrrhic victory was impossible.
These beasts were sizable, over 1.4 meters tall, and muscular.
If the stones they threw landed on them, the impact would surely be severe.
Earlier, she saw a stone hit a tree, leaving it badly splintered. If it landed on a person, she wouldn’t dare imagine.
Luckily, during the chase, they hadn’t thrown stones. If they had, she might have already fallen.
If they managed to run back to the camp, Lu Yao was confident they could handle it.
Their fence was much stronger than Xu Yi’s, towering above two meters, fully equipped with spikes, no creature would gain an advantage against their barriers.
However, the camp was far away, and at their current speed, it would take three hours to reach.
Furthermore, they couldn’t stumble or fall.
If they fell, the beasts could immediately attack.
Thus, this had become a life-or-death test for them.
She had no issues getting back to the camp herself, her concern was whether Wang Jin could endure with her stamina and endurance.
This was a contest of endurance, if those beasts fell short, she’d unquestionably turn back and eliminate them, turning them into food, and points.
At five points each, they could earn 40 points at once.
