Live Strong in the Wilderness-Chapter 182: Disease Outbreak?
The forest echoed with cries, and Xu Yi stood up to take a look.
After observing for a while and not seeing any animals, Xu Yi withdrew his gaze.
Lu Ke was still very weak, so Xu Yi couldn’t possibly go out hunting at this time.
Unless it was right on the clearing outside the camp.
He didn’t know that Wang Jin and Lu Yao were being chased by a group of animals.
Even if he knew, there wasn’t much he could do to help.
After all, Lu Ke’s condition wasn’t good, and he couldn’t take that risk.
Pouring a cup of hot water, Xu Yi brought it to Lu Ke.
Lu Ke lay on the bed, eyes closed, but not asleep.
She had already slept for a few hours in the morning.
"How are you feeling, any better?" Xu Yi asked.
"Much better, the headache is gone, just a little sore throat," Lu Ke sat up, took the cup from Xu Yi, and continued, "I still feel weak all over, like when we were in the hospital. Xu Yi, am I...having a relapse?"
Saying this, Lu Ke took a sip from the cup and stared blankly at Xu Yi.
If her cancer was recurring, she wouldn’t be able to hold on for long.
"Silly, it won’t happen, this is just a symptom of a cold. Don’t overthink it, you’ll feel better by tomorrow." Xu Yi comforted, given the time that had passed, if there was a problem it would have shown up long ago, not suddenly now.
"Really won’t it?" Lu Ke looked eagerly at Xu Yi, these days she thought she was healthy. But being ill again dredged up those old fears.
She cherished her current healthy body so much, she didn’t want to fall back into that abyss.
"Of course not, stop overthinking. If a relapse were happening, your cold symptoms wouldn’t be easing, right?" Xu Yi pinched Lu Ke’s face, changing the subject.
"Yeah, that’s true." Lu Ke nodded, previously when she caught a cold, the medicine had to be continuous, with a week of drips to control it.
Now, in just a day, her condition had improved.
Looking at it this way, it really didn’t seem like a terminal disease reoccurrence.
Yeah, must be overthinking it!
Lu Ke took a deep breath, then looked at Xu Yi, and said, "Thank you, Xu Yi."
"What are you thanking me for, seriously. If you don’t want to lie down anymore, go outside for a bit. Today’s temperature is bearable, around thirty degrees." With that, Xu Yi took the empty cup and walked out of the room.
Lu Ke got out of bed, went to the bathroom, then walked into the yard.
Leaning on the fence, Lu Ke watched the chickens inside.
These wild chickens had grown quite a bit, with hard feathers on their wings.
Xu Yi mentioned that when these hard feathers grew a bit more, they could be plucked to make arrow fletching.
However, Lu Ke was more eager for these wild chickens to lay eggs. If these eight could lay eggs every day, it would provide them with a lot of protein.
Although the recommended is one egg a day, if food shortages hit, eating ten a day isn’t an issue. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
"Seems like mint water is really effective, Lu Ke is much better than she was in the morning."
"Cold doesn’t necessarily require medication; even with it, it takes a week to improve."
"If it can relieve headaches and sore throats, why not ease it? It’s pointless to suffer needlessly."
"Cold medicines lose effectiveness with repeated use, but natural mint leaf soup is worth a try. But, have you tried it? The taste isn’t great."
"I’d rather endure a short discomfort than a week-long one though."
"Hope Loli Ke gets better soon; being sick in the wilderness is extremely dangerous. Plus, it’s an alien wilderness."
"Looks like she’ll be fine by tomorrow, but she still has her period. Honestly, females aren’t suited for wilderness challenges. A week-long period is a disadvantage."
"That’s why many female-led teams got eliminated, and those with women left hardly exceed 50 teams, only three teams have two women left."
"Can’t count Group 68, Jiang Yu is as strong as a man, even stronger!"
"Dare to say that about Brother Jiang, aren’t you afraid of the biceps squeezing you to death?"
"I admire Group 222’s Sun Ya and Lin Xiuqin; very ordinary factory girls, yet they persevered this far."
"You only know them as factory girls, but don’t know they were left-behind children in the mountains. If they weren’t mountain kids, they couldn’t have endured to now."
After watching the chickens for a while, Lu Ke sat down next to Xu Yi.
She initially wanted to help with the flax thread, but Xu Yi refused.
Despite how light the work was, Xu Yi wished Lu Ke would rest well. They had plenty of time for work; what’s half a day’s time?
In the jungle, Wang Jin’s running speed slowed down.
Her legs were already numb, only moving mechanically.
After more than two hours, she felt like she could collapse at any moment.
"Sis, I can’t continue, I really can’t run anymore."
Wang Jin’s endurance had reached its limit; she wanted to stop and rest.
"Hang in there a bit, those beasts are almost done too. Soon, we’ll have a chance to counterattack." Lu Yao said, turning to look back.
The distance widened to over thirty meters.
This was even with Wang Jin slowing down half an hour earlier; they would’ve outrun them long ago otherwise.
Lu Yao admired the animals’ perseverance, chasing for so long without giving up.
No longer, I have to stop, or my heart will burst.
Wang Jin said inwardly, as she was too exhausted to speak.
The line she spoke had been held in for a long time.
Yet, she found herself unable to stop, legs moving regardless.
However, her pace had slowed considerably.
Upon seeing this, Lu Yao ran over to Wang Jin, prepared to pull her along.
Lu Yao still had decent stamina, she thought she could last another half hour.
In half an hour, the beasts couldn’t hold on much longer.
Then, it would be time to turn the tables.
Wang Jin, breathing heavily, looked at Lu Yao approaching, wanting to refuse.
She felt her body had reached its limit; she couldn’t run anymore.
So, she shook off her hand.
It was all she could do, unable to say anything.
Lu Yao understood Wang Jin’s intention and withdrew her hand.
Looking back, Lu Yao also finally slowed to a complete stop.
The two were practically walking, yet the beasts hadn’t caught up.
Lu Yao knew, the chance for a counterattack had arrived!
