Live Strong in the Wilderness-Chapter 134: The World Outside
"Shipbuilding, going to sea?" Lu Ke couldn’t help but glance at Xu Yi. When did this plan come about?
"Yeah, if the winter here is very cold, we might not be able to hunt any prey for a long time. By then, going to sea to fish might become our main way of getting food." Xu Yi explained, he’d had this plan for a long time.
After all, they needed to survive here for 500 days. Going to sea for fishing definitely needed to be planned.
Lu Yao couldn’t help but glance at Xu Yi, then nodded.
She had the same intention.
After all, the sea not only has shells and crabs, but also various kinds of fish that are not only nutritious but also taste delicious.
"Xu Yi, you said there’s a chance of snow in the winter here?" Wang Jin looked at Xu Yi with a face full of surprise, feeling like Xu Yi was joking. It’s so hot here, how could it possibly snow?
"There’s a chance, though even if it’s a very low probability, we should still be prepared accordingly." Xu Yi said seriously, regardless of whether Lu Yao and Wang Jin listened or not, it was beyond his concern.
"Plan for the worst, so you can handle the worst case scenario." Lu Yao affirmed Xu Yi’s thoughts, she believed in the same. Regardless of the snow, preparations for snow should be made.
Wang Jin stuck out her tongue, not planning to respond.
"Xu Yi, do you think we have enough palm leaves?" Lu Ke asked, wanting to go to the beach to see if there were crabs. It’s been a while since she last had crabs.
"We have plenty. Let’s go to the beach and see if we can find some seafood." Xu Yi understood Lu Ke’s thoughts and said with a smile.
"Sounds good, let’s all go to the beach to collect seafood." Wang Jin said happily, feeling her sister is a bit of a bore.
Then, the four of them went to the beach.
"Are they really not on vacation, playing and chasing each other there?"
"It’s rare to relax, I think it’s great. For a month now, they’ve been quite tense, relaxing feels good."
"Look how happy they are playing, makes me want to join in."
"Three women bullying Xu Yi alone, that’s too much, I want to help Xu Yi."
"If it were me, I’d rather stand there getting splashed by them."
"Such a sycophant, where’s the fun in that, destined to end up lonely."
"Exactly, if Xu Yi doesn’t fight back, he’s no different from a splashing pillar is he?"
After playing for more than an hour, the four of them lay on the beach resting.
"Can’t imagine we’re actually on another planet." Wang Jin looked at the sky, gesturing back and forth with her hands. As a child, she fantasized about traveling to another planet on a spaceship, but never expected she’d land on another planet by stepping through a door.
"Yeah, sometimes I feel like I’m dreaming, a really long, beautiful dream." As she spoke, Lu Ke couldn’t help but turn her head to glance at Xu Yi.
"If it weren’t for some peculiar animals, I’d doubt we’re on another planet." Lu Yao looked at the sky, her gaze somewhat dreamy.
"It’s very similar indeed, feels like the ecosystem is the same." Wang Jin replied, she also had that familiar feeling.
"I wonder if the outside world looks like this too." Xu Yi sat up, most of the moisture on his clothes had been absorbed by the sand.
"Outside world?" Wang Jin looked at Xu Yi puzzled.
What does he mean?
Could the world beyond the island be any different?
"Are you saying the outside world is actually different from here?" Lu Yao stood up and looked at Xu Yi, her gaze carrying some doubt.
"Who knows, maybe it’s the same, maybe it’s different." Xu Yi shrugged, then glanced around at everyone and said: "Do you guys really intend to stay on an island for 500 days without wanting to explore other lands?"
"Not really, if there were delivery and express services, I’d happily stay home for years." Wang Jin shook her head, she felt staying at home was pretty good too. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
Xu Yi glanced at Wang Jin, today she was the most lively, yet claims to be a homebody?
Had she not splashed water at Xu Yi first, everyone wouldn’t have started playing.
"I kind of want to, to walk around and see different parts of this planet." Lu Ke sat up too, saying with boundless anticipation.
"Looking at unknown landscapes feels good too." Lu Yao smiled slightly, she was interested in the outside world too.
Perhaps the outside world might indeed be different.
"Come on, let’s collect some firewood and cook seafood." Xu Yi said to Lu Ke, after all, they couldn’t help each other, so they had to cook for themselves.
Today they had collected sufficient shells, enough for a lunch.
So, the four of them gathered firewood to cook shells and crabs, though there weren’t many crabs, each could have two or three.
Though each cooked their own, being together made it livelier than usual, creating an outing atmosphere.
After lunch, they lingered on the beach for more than an hour, collected more shells and crabs, and then returned.
After all, Xu Yi and Lu Ke had to run two trips to transport all the palm leaves back to the camp.
Back at camp, Lu Ke started weaving the palm mats.
They had played enough for the day and had already lost a fair bit of time.
Xu Yi smashed the flax stalks, then soaked them in the pool.
Dinner consisted of seafood and crabs.
After dinner, the two continued to work.
Within a night, Lu Ke wove three large rectangular mats.
These mats can be used not only to dry raisins but also other dried fruits, vegetables, and so on.
It can be said these palm mats are very practical.
When paper making starts, they can also be used to dry paper.
After completing the palm mats, Lu Ke took a bath and sat beside the fire pit amidst watching Xu Yi twisting hemp ropes.
"What’s the matter?" Xu Yi sensed Lu Ke was looking at him and glanced up at her.
"Xu Yi, do you think the outside world could be completely different from here?" Lu Ke asked, considering the question throughout the day. Previously, she hadn’t thought about it.
She didn’t even know she had a bit of an adventurous spirit, feeling eager to go out and see.
"It’s hard to say, who knows, once we go out we’ll naturally find out." Xu Yi said, always feeling the organizers wouldn’t let them stick to one island for 500 days, they should have to venture out.
