The Tycoon's Gutsy Wife-Chapter 16: Shopping Drama
"Sorry ma’am but your card was declined," she heard.
Lina scowled.
’How could that be?’ She thought.
She glared at the salesgirl and demanded, "Swipe it again."
She couldn’t afford to have her card messing up now, not in front of Adeline and her friends. They’ve already mocked her. If they found out that she couldn’t even pay for the dress...
"What’s taking you so long? I thought you’d have already left by now. Or are you still here to make your stench stronger than it already is?" Daniela asked without holding back.
She grinned in satisfaction when Lina glared at her as if she wanted to burn her with her gaze.
Daniela stared at the salesgirl who was swiping the black card with all her might as if her life depended on it.
"Don’t tell me you came here to shop without having any money," said Daniela.
It was obvious she didn’t want to let Lina off the hook. Although she wasn’t the one hurt, she felt the utmost urge to humiliate Lina in front of everyone.
Lina was growing anxious now.
Theodore had given her the black card only a few days ago after he brought her to his home. But she’d been shopping the entire time, buying herself new things every day.
What if she was out of money?
She shook her head faintly, hoping that wasn’t the case.
Everything she’d bought from that store was over fifty thousand dollars. It was probably not a big amount for women like Adeline, but to her, it certainly was.
If that card didn’t go through, she would have to swallow her saliva in disgrace and return everything which was a big No.
"Ma’am. I’m sorry but your card continues to get declined. Do you have any other cards you can pay with?" The salesgirl asked, her tone slightly impatient now.
They had several customers they needed to attend to and couldn’t waste all their time on just one person.
Lina’s heart fell to her feet. This was the last thing she wanted.
Since she has a black card, she didn’t think she needed to bring her other cards. Even though she brought them, she didn’t have up to fifty thousand dollars laying around.
"Go on. Give her your card," Daniela insisted.
Adeline gave Lina a regarded look at how she made no effort in reaching her bag and retrieving another card.
"You know, instead of wasting everyone’s time, maybe you should just leave the dress to someone who can afford it," said Adeline, her tone devoid of any emotion. "But a word of advice—if you know you can’t afford anything in a store, don’t bother entering there."
With that, Adeline turned to the salesgirl.
"It’s obvious she’s unable to afford the dress. Please, pack it up for me."
The salesgirl was immediately pleased and did as she was told.
It was unfortunate that they spent almost an hour attending to a customer who couldn’t even afford to be in their store.
Lina’s face was filled with embarrassment now.
She parted her lips to speak, but no words could come out.
"Did she really just enter here and couldn’t afford anything?"
"Look at the way she’s dressed. I doubt she’s from a rich family. But that black card in her hand...maybe she got it from someone and it’s probably not even hers."
Apparently, the commotion had grabbed the attention of other customers who stuck their noses into what was going on, sniffing for drama.
Lina’s teeth were gritted and when Rinnah intentionally pushed her out of the way, she lost it.
"You’re only doing this because Theodore chose me," she snapped. "You’re just jealous you can’t keep a husband, and when I tried to help, you couldn’t swallow your ego and just accept that he chose me."
"Oh, will you look at that? She’s not only broke and can’t afford anything, but she’s also a mistress." Lina heard one of the customers say.
"That’s how they always are. They go around breaking people’s marriages for money. She has no shame at all."
Lina turned to look at the couple who were speaking terribly of her but right when she was about to say something, the salesgirl interrupted.
"Please be mindful of what you say, otherwise I’ll call security to kick you out," she threatened.
Now that she knew that Lina wasn’t as important a person as she thought she was, she didn’t bother trying to sound polite to her anymore.
Lina felt really humiliated, but she didn’t want to back down so soon. However, she couldn’t do much while still in the store. She was already disgraced with the fact that she couldn’t pay, but getting kicked out by security was the height of it. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
Grabbing her bag, she turned to leave.
Once she was out of everyone’s sight, Daniela laughed as if she’d achieved something worthy.
"That bitch is really something."
They paid for their clothes while Samara still tried to convince Rinnah that she didn’t need to bother with the dress. Unfortunately for her, Rinnah had already made up her mind.
Once they paid, they grabbed their bags, leaving a very big tip behind, and left the store.
However, once they stepped out of the store, they found Lina outside, her red hair growing darker—probably from the rage bubbling behind her skin.
"Will you look at that? I thought you already left," said Daniela.
Adeline ignored Lina, acting like she didn’t see her, and turned to leave, but Lina stopped her.
"Theodore loves me and there’s nothing you can do about it. While you were home, being a typical housewife and he was at work, we always did it. Everyone in the office knew of our relationship. I left signs for you, but you were too stupid to see them which left me no other choice but to send you that picture," she said and once she saw how grim Adeline’s expression was, a grin of satisfaction spread on her face.
"Yet, he gave you a black card with a limit," Adeline replied.
The grin was immediately wiped off Lina’s face.
Adeline left while Daniela gave Lina the middle finger.
