Life didn't get easier, even in another world-Chapter 404 Another one
404 Another one
A group of young children were gathered together under the shade of a tree. At the center of the group sat a boy with light-brown hair with a book in his hands. The boy flipped the pages and read the book's contents out loud for his friends to hear. It was a storybook. "And then, the fox raised its front paws and put them on the tree. Opening his mouth, Mr. Fox sang a song, cough, a song with a happy face. It's tail wagging, cough cough, ahem, tail wagging, the fox waited for the, cough!"
As the light-brown-haired child at the center of the group covered his mouth and began to cough constantly, the other children sent him disapproving gazes and began to nag. "Arghhh why do you cough so much?"
"Yeah, I can't understand anything from the story because of you!"
"Stop coughing and read the rest!"
While the younger children complained, the older ones seized him from head to toe.
"Are you sick or something? Is that why you cough a lot?"
"That's possible. He looks so thinner than usual as well!"
Seeing the commotion, Reynold hurriedly waved his hands in the air and shook his head. "No no! I'm not sick or, cough argh cough."
Drip
A red liquid dropped on the book, turning the page blood-colored. Despite him hurriedly covering his mouth, the sight didn't escape the children's gaze. "Gasp!"
"He just threw up blood! He threw up blood!"
One of the older children got up and pulled her siblings away from the sick boy. "Get away from him. What if you catch his sickness?"
"Kyah!"
The children who were surrounding him scattered around in an instant. Grabbing his book and standing up, Reynold tried to explain to them that his sickness wasn't contagious, but no one listened to him. These children didn't even know the difference between a contagious illness and a non-contagious one. "Ah... All of them ran away..."
Reynold watched his friends run from him while cussing and cursing him under their lips. They had all gathered around him a while ago when they found him reading a book and requested him to read the contents out loud for them to understand, but they were now glaring at him as if he wanted to harm them on purpose.
"Cough cough."
He wiped the blood on his chin with his sleeve, but couldn't overcome his dizziness and fatigue. Reynold sat back down under the tree, hugged his book, and wrapped his arms around his knee, staring at the distance where his friends disappeared to. He didn't know when his eyelids become heavy after coughing for hours and when he fell into sleep, but what he woke up to was the worried voice of a man. It was already dark. "Reyn, Reyn! Wake up, Reyn!"
"Unnn..."
As soon as the red of the man's hair entered his view, Reynold jolted up and snapped his eyes open. The redhead's mouth gaped at the sight.
"...Why are you... covered in blood...?"
Roy grabbed the kid's shoulders. In response, the boy lowered his head with a sunken gaze. "I'm sorry-"
"Don't apologize! I asked what happened, are you injured?"
"No... cough, ah..."
With that, there was no need for any explanations. "Misterrrr don't do this I'm heavy your back will hurt!"
"Don't wiggle, stay put. And you are as light as a feather."
"But..."
"Shhh!" Roy caressed the child's back as he walked to their home while holding Reynold in his arms. "You should've returned home as soon as you felt sick. Do you know how much I searched for you?"
"...I was dizzy..."
"What about your friends? You could ask them for help."
"...They ran away as soon as they saw me cough blood. They were scared that they'd catch my illness."
Roy heaved a deep sigh in response. "It's okay. They'll come back after you get better."
"Will they?"
"They should. If not, then you can talk things out with them," Roy's tone was as gentle as the night breeze that brushed past their faces. "And if they don't return again, then find new friends. There are a lot of children here so you won't get lonely even if a few are scared of you."
"Hmm..." Reynold put his head on his mister's shoulder, dazedly looking at the night sky. "But I won't get lonely even if they don't befriend me."
"Hmm?"
"I have you mister, so I will never get lonely."
"...."
The redhead didn't respond anymore. The two of them walked to their house, a tiny building a little further away from the rest of the city. After placing the child on his bed, Roy left the room for a moment and returned with something in his hand. Kneeling beside the kid, he put the object in his hands inside the child's palms. "What is this...?"
Reynold tilted his head while examining the round thing that looked like a bracelet. "Can't you tell?"
The surface of the bracelet was designed with the same patterns as his necklace. Despite it looking like a normal object, it felt warm to the touch and gave off a soothing feeling. "It was the same power as the necklace and you..."
"Yeah."
Roy held the child's wrist up and wore the bracelet on it. "With this, you'll get better again. Wear this and the necklace all the time, okay?"
"Yeah..."
Reynold stared at the bracelet for a while before his lips curled into a smile. "Thank you, mister."
Roy didn't respond.
"Can't you teach me how to make these? Or how to use that sparkly sparkly power that you use? Hmmm, mister, can that sparkly sparkly power be the same as the power of the source written in those texts?"
"Go to sleep."
"Mmmm... When will you teach me about that power?"
"How old are you?"
"Seven."

"Seven-year-olds should be asleep by now."
"Misterrr I want to know!"
"Change your clothes and go to sleep, now!"
As if not wanting to hear anything else, Roy walked out of the room after speaking his sentence.
"But I will know everythingggg one day!"
. . . . . . . . There was no way he wouldn't know about that power and any other thing related to it after spending all his effort studying. Roy always tried to stop him from experimenting or learning anything about that power, but he wasn't able to stop the curious kid after all. Even if he was able to stop him when he was a little child, he couldn't do so after a few years that he had grown enough. "So, you have this power that goes against chaos, then what about me?"
Roy's gaze fell on the boy who had asked that question out of the blue. He glared at him for a while without giving a response. "I'm just curious," Reynold got closer to the man who was busy scribing in his notebook, the man who had not changed nor aged a single bit since the day he'd met him. "It prevents you from aging, but I keep growing up, so does that mean I don't have a power similar to yours?"
Roy ignored him once again. "I got hit by that machine which was built to hold chaos in itself, so do I have chaos in my soul now? Is that why Mister's power can calm my sickness? Because it cancels out chaos? Can I wield chaos then?"
"Reynold!" The man slammed his hand on the table. "I've told you before not to be curious about things that you shouldn't be curious about!"

The ten-year-old child took a few steps back, "I-it's about my own body! Why can't I know?"
"It's dangerous."
"Isn't it better if you told me now? I'll find out about it anyway even if you don't!"
"Reyn!"
Under the burning gaze of the redhead, Reynold shook slightly but didn't back away. "I won't do anything dangerous. I just want to know. I want to know a little bit more... Can' I at least understand why my body is in this state? Don't you trust me enough to share your secrets with me, mister?"
"Reyn-"
"Please!"
"Reynold!"
"Please! I swear I won't do anything dangerous! I promise! I promise!"
"...."
Clasping his hands, which now had a ring on one of the fingers, the child waited for a response. He had searched as much as he could, but there was a limit to how much he could understand and find out alone. He was only ten but he knew how destructive and dangerous these powers were and what could they do to the world of the living. He was curious, as to how his mister could wield this power and why was he doing all of this, building structures and machines that dealt with the very thing he feard. He wanted to understand this mister more. "Alright."
Reynold jumped up at the response, his face brimming with joy and excitement. "Really? Really?"
However, his expression crumbled as soon as he saw the kind of face Roy was making. The man's crimson eyes had never looked as serious as now. "It's a promise. You won't use these information no matter what."
