Legendary Traveler: By Earning Progress Points I will Become Supreme!-Chapter 190: Making up His Mind
One short intermission break wherein a certain smol child received some frozen snacks for dessert before being whisked away to bed, and the family reconvened at the dining room table.
"Honestly, Aoni, I think you should just go ahead and take that Scholarship. I know your Attribute allows you to obtain Passives more easily, and I can't really see any downside to joining an institution of EFU's caliber." Digging into a chocolate sundae with hidden glee in her eyes, Charlotte picked the conversation back up where it left off.
"You are forgetting my resource issue, Char. The only thing they can give me is tools and knowledge, which, sure, it's a learning institution, but that's about it. Not to mention, as a trade skill technical college, there will be quotas to meet and such; I just don't see any value in going there." Equally enthralled in his ice cream Sunday, Aoni responded, earning a frown from just about every member of the family because they couldn't refute his logic.
"If that pesky resource issue didn't limit me, sure, EFU would be a great idea; however, given that I need to gather everything I use to craft myself, what could being on Terra offer but minimal growth opportunities? In that case, wouldn't it just be better for me to pack up a shit ton of books and return to Genovia?"
"Aoni, don't you think you are being pessimistic here? I mean, you're not wrong, you can probably get better things from your Territory, but going to EFU isn't just about growing your Attribute in real time; you may not be able to utilize your Attribute, but that doesn't mean you can't participate in hands-on learning." Seeing the conversation going in the wrong direction, Anthony butted in and stole everyone's attention.
"Nothing is saying you are incapable of crafting WITHOUT using your Brands or anything like that; I know you are smart enough to understand this fact, so what is the real reason you don't want to go? Is it this Maevis woman?"
"…he's got a point, you know," nudging her brother's arm with her elbow, Clara stated with a smug grin.
"It wouldn't be because our baby brother is an antisocial loaner who doesn't wanna meet new people? Would it?"
Nudge nudge nudge
"Sigh, STOP IT!"

SMACK
Swatting Clara's elbow with an open palm, Aoni glared at his busty sister and growled unhappily.
Truth be told, he simply didn't trust a group of individuals who out-ranked him by significant margins. With all the secrets Aoni hid thanks to his Attribute Notice, he felt extremely hesitant to push his luck and be in the same general vicinity as people Several Stages above him in power.
After all, there was no telling how long he could keep up this little charade of his; someone, at some point, was bound to find an inconsistency in his story or actions, and it would be downhill from there.
Not to mention, there's the whole Family situation hanging over their head. At any given moment, an external force could act on the Thurston family and send them scurrying like rats.
While he may have been added to the family plan and even linked his Territory to the Genealogical Flume, that didn't mean he or any of his family members were safe.
However, it wasn't all bad and doomsday prophecies; Aoni wasn't dumb enough to ignore the good things that could come his way by enrolling at EFU.
Crafting techniques, practical training, legacies- all would be at his fingertips to some extent, and all of that was extremely intriguing.
Just look at how far hes come with a basic education. Providing Aoni spent his time at EFU in a fruitful manner; there was no telling how quickly his crafting skills would accelerate, meaning he could potentially make grander and better items that would not only aid him in battle but also expedite the growth of his Territory.
"We won't push you into something you don't want to do, Aoni, especially not your mother and I. It's a decision you must make on your own, and while we have our hopes, you will, at the very least, make some friends…"
*Scoff*
"FRIENDS, it may be a foreign word to you, sweety, but get the hell over it, or else you will turn out like your brother Archie! Is that what you want, to be a shut-in who clacks away on his keyboard every day, all day, without ever stepping outside to touch grass!" The fierceness and playful tone in Lea's voice didn't quite match the serious expression on her face because everyone knew just how much Archie did for the family.
"Hey…I touch grass… there's a potted plant in my room…" Looking down gloomily, Archie, of course, sulked, seeing as he was the target of Lea's verbal assault; however, he still smirked because he knew she was only teasing.
One must know that a good majority of the finances were actually handled by Archie, along with intelligence gathering; he was simply that damn good with a computer.
The phrase "if it sparks, I can hack it" described Archie to a T. The guy was way too good with computers, and that was all while being a Mundane; if he had been one of the lucky few to awaken, well, who knows what heights he could have reached.
Then again, the young man was quite frail, so unless he got extremely lucky with his Territory, there wasn't much hope in him actually surviving his initial trial.
"UGH, I really have to choose one of them too; why can't there be a third option," Falling back into his chair and tugging at his hair, Aoni knew there was no point in avoiding the inevitable.
There were only two options, and if he didn't respond to the Recruitment, his fate would be automatically chosen for him; IE, he'd be forced into working for the Bureau, and that was 100% Not something he could accept.
So without wasting any more time, Aoni reluctantly brought up the Bureau website, navigated to the recruitment page, and, after grumbling a few more times, Accepted the recruitment offer from EFU.
