To cut a long story short, Yes, Jason, Anthony, and Charlotte stepped in to save Aoni, and Yes, Lea tore Jason a new one when they returned upstairs; after all, Aoni looked like he'd been through hell and showed signs of PTSD thanks to the fleshy beating those D-Cup pillows dished out.

After all, a sports bra didn't hide much in the first place.

With the Flume situation successfully navigated and behind them, Aoni's day played out as it would have originally: some light workouts, training in much to his annoyance with Clara, and surprisingly, Energia Manipulation with Anthony.

By the time dinner rolled around that evening, everyone's attention was shifted away from Aoni and onto the baby of the family, Princess Cammy, who was over the moon with how much attention she was getting.

That's not to say she lived a life of neglect; no, it was quite the opposite because everyone went out of their way at every opportunity to pamper Cammy, seeing as she was the baby and all, but that didn't mean she was spoiled.

"Big brodder, I love all my stuffies, thankies much muchhhh," sitting beside Aoni and kicking her little legs while they dangled off her chair, Cammy made sure to be a good girl and show how much she appreciated the gift he'd given her yesterday.

"Anything for my baby sister," Aoni replied with a warm smile while reaching over and patting Cammy's head like she was a puppy…speaking of which.

"Grrrrrrrrr,"

As with every time anyone got close to the little girl, a faint growling could be heard from down below their seats.

"Snarky, no growl at brodder," Reaching under her chair, Cammy wiggled her little finger in front of the practically ancient dog resembling a Scottish terrier that had been alive for who knows HOW long.

'Sigh, I remember when he used to be MY dog…' Aoni mused while thinking back to the day Cammy was born.

Apparently, it wasn't the first time this had happened, but whenever a new baby was born into the Thurston family, Snarky, the annoying ferocious dog, would detach itself from the previous "Baby" of the family and connect with the new one, happened with all of his siblings, and he'd even been warned about it ahead of time.

Yet that did nothing to curb the dull sense of loss he felt when he woke up the day after Cammy was brought home from the hospital only to find his beloved dog was no longer in his bed and instead made his place by the new baby's crib.

'It's fine, you have Glacia and Nyria, who needs that rotten jerk,' With a snort, Aoni jammed his spoon into a big bowl of mac n cheese.

"Aoni, sweety, stop stabbing your food like it's trying to attack you," Lea chided with a keen eye, indicating she knew the reason behind her son's food aggression.

"Yes, Mom,"

"That's a good boy; now tell Mama, have you given any thought to those two Recruitment offers you received?" Flashing her son a smile that wasn't really a smile, Lea calmly placed her fork and knife down on either side of her plate and caused the entire dinner table to fall completely silent.

This alone was more than enough indication of who ran the Thurston family, as when Mother was speaking, all listened.

"I don't want to accept either of them," quickly swallowing down his mouth full of Food and placing his spoon down, Aoni sat up straight and addressed the question.

"And why is that, sweety? It's not every day that a newly awakened traveler gets a Recruitment offer from the prestigious Emberstone Forgemaster University." There was a hint of something in Lea's voice that unsettled Aoni, something he couldn't quite identify because it wasn't something he was used to hearing from his Mom: exasperation, worry, fear?

He couldn't place it, and in hearing the off-tone in her voice, Aoni's eyes squinted slightly.

"The only reason I got that invite was because of an Examiner I had. She even left her card with me, but I want nothing to do with a school that big."

"The same goes for my other offer From the Bureau of Production. Well, at least with EFU, I'd be able to learn things. The Bureau just wanted to use my attribute for their gain, and that's entirely unacceptable."

"What did the EFU offer entail?" Jason asked after earning a nod from Lea.

Unknown to Aoni or any of the Thurston kids, Jason and Lea had spoken in length about this topic after finding out which two Opportunities had been passed on to their youngest son, so now it was time for a little Good Cop Bad Cop.

There was no doubt that joining the Bureau of Production was a dead-end brainless job that would suck the life and soul of a person, and since Aoni was basically expected to choose one of the two options, Jason and Lea felt EFU was the better choice.

"Four-year Full-ride Scholarship to any department of my choice and a monthly allowance of 30,000 CD. Housing, Food, school supplies, it's all covered, and while it may seem like a golden opportunity, something doesn't sit right with me." Leaning back in his seat and crossing his arms over his chest, Aoni felt the need to explain his thoughts so that he didn't appear to be throwing a little hissy fit because he didn't get the Recruitment offer he wanted.

"Maevis, the woman who was in charge of my Examination, is a Blue-Card and no doubt a professor at EFU. A woman of her standard, knowing all of the drawbacks brought about by my attribute, still pushed for a full university scholarship; that doesn't sit well with me."

"It would be one thing if I were some kind of super crafting genius, but I'm not, and no matter how much schooling I go through, that doesn't matter if I can't locate the resources necessary to make higher-level items."

"It's like saying, Hey, look here, this is the full blueprint for a Fighter Jet, and a list of everything you need to build it, oh, but you have to use rubber bands and popsicle sticks."

"Popsicles! Do we have Popsicles for Dessert!" Hearing about the icy treat, Cammy, who had no idea what the conversation between the older kids and adults was about, suddenly sat up with sparkling eyes, making everyone around the table laugh at her antics.
