Legacy Of The Extra-Chapter 23: Progress(3)
Chapter 23 - Progress(3)
Mana Beasts are creatures infused with mana. Depending upon their traits and affinity they develop their cores. Let's say we take a wolf—A wolf depending upon their elements can be separated into various types.
A Firewolf or Fuerwolf, Frostwolf, Blitzwolf, Earth or Erdwolf, and many other names depending on their elements.
The Mana Beasts are again divided into Tiers.
1. Lower Beasts(F-E Rank)
2. Greater Beasts(D-C Rank)
3. Noble Beasts(B-A Rank)
4. Arcane Beasts(S-Rank)
5. Mythic Beasts(S+ Rank)
But there is one more Tier that is not known by the mortals yet—The Primordial Beasts. They are beasts that are created by the Gods themselves to serve as their partners or helpers. They also sometimes act as messengers for the Gods.
Few of them even became gods themselves lending their Legacies to Humans and other races and also solidified their positions as one of the Celestial races like Angels, Demons, Spirits and Dragons.
You can say that they are the staple animals of Elmar just like how Earth has its own animals but just infused with Mana—Except for beasts above the Noble Rank. They are fucking monsters that can destroy cities.
-Grrrrh
Snapping me out of my monologue was none other than a Mana Beast before me. It was staring at me with great intensity with its molten eyes. Its fur—Or should I the iron-like spikes seemed impenetrable. Its huge mass of body and its thick four legs are covered with the same iron-like fur that radiated an aura of a primal beast hunting its prey.
The prey was me—And the predator was the Ironhide Bear before me. A Greater Beast who had the chance of making it to the ranks of the Noble Beast. One might wonder how I ended up facing a beast that could mangle my corps as if I were a toy who was only meant to be played with.
I thought that since Micheal was here, he should be able to easily deal with it but no.
"YOU CAN DO IT, NOAH!"
I shot a side glare at the man with White streaked Lavender hair. His eyes looked at me with surgical precision as if he was testing me which he was. Micheal and I rushed out of the tavern when we heard someone screaming for help. Not something that is my cup of tea but whatever.
But when we stepped foot outside and saw the huge bear. Micheal's lips curved into a smile—A knowing smile. He clasped my shoulders and looked at me with something unreadable.
"How about it, Noah?" He began.
"How about what?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. But inside my head was screaming danger—telling me not to listen to this brother's words. And I should have heeded the warning I received but now it was too late.
My grip on the estoc tightened, the thin blade that I held in my arms was now gleaming in the rays of light from the sun above. My jaw clenched and my head blurred thinking of a way to get out of this situation.
[Don't get nervous, remember the things that were taught to you over the week] Dante encouraged me, seeing the inner turmoil of thoughts brewing inside my head.
'How can I not get nervous? This beast can literally kill me in one strike' I shot back sweating profusely. I only trained in swordsmanship for like a week and now I am supposed to fight this beast?
[Don't worry if anything goes wrong Micheal and that Girl Alicia is here] Dante reassured me.
I simply nodded in reply and focused my attention on the beast before me. Its maw was open revealing the beast's sharp fangs. Saliva dripped from the beast's mouth onto the ground below and without warning it lunged towards me.
The ground below trembled with each step the beast took. It jumped towards me, its jaw gaping ready to chew me into pieces but before it could reach me.
[Voltstep]

Lightning coursed through my veins and erupted around my whole body and in an instant I was behind the bear. The place where I stood before was still lingering with purple mana that imitated an afterimage of me. The bear was still in an attack motion, trying to chew down the afterimage I left.
[Noah, remember you can't strike him with your sword. It will surely split in half unless you reinforce the blade with Aura] Dante said. It was currently my problem—I was not able to awaken my aura core.
Listening to Dante's advice I extended my empty hand towards the bear and muttered [Storm Fang]
Amethyst lightning crackled in my hands forming itself into the shape of a Lance. It shot outwards toward the bear's rear but before it could spikes of iron sprouted out from the ground completely blocking my attack.
The beast was able to react to my attack and block it.
My jaw tightened at the realization and I hurled a few steps back. Distance and speed were the only two things giving me an edge over this greater beast. I knew one thing if its teeth bore into my skin once—I would be done for.
If I want to kill it with my sword without snapping it, I would need Aura and if I want to strike it down with spells I would need to do something about its metal magic.
"Noah," Micheal called out to me, his expression was deadly serious. "Focus on your will"
'What did he mean by that?' I asked myself unaware of why he wanted me to fight a Greater beast that he could easily defeat. Does he sorn me as well? Or was he trying to make me learn something?
I want to believe in the latter for now.
[That choice is the correct one] Dante said his tone is that of knowing, [He is trying to awaken your Aura through this fight]
'What do you mean? Aura can only be achieved through rigorous training and meditation' I replied remembering how Raiden unlocked his Aura through the cutscenes.
[Yes, you are correct but there are other ways—These ways are called forced awakenings. These awakenings do not happen gradually with training but only occur when the person in question goes through a near-death experience or his will ignites] Dante explained.
'How does it ignite?'
[It depends on the person]
My brows furrowed. 'What does my awakening depend on?' I asked myself.
[It is the answer Micheal is telling you to find while fighting this beast.]
I exhaled slightly and focused on the Ironhide bear. Its lava-like eyes focused on me but this time it did not lunge forward at me mindlessly—It waited and eyed me down to see if I would make any moves.
-Graaaaaaaaawrgh
It roared and thumped his two limbs on the ground. The whole place shook, the ground cracked from its impact and then three metallic spikes sprouted from the ground and hurled towards me.
I blocked the spikes with my sword. Each hit made my hands tremble and ache in pain. The strength difference was high but before I could recover, the beast lunged at me. Its claw gleamed in the sunlight ready to mark my skin.
I smirked [Voltstep]
My body blitzed with lightning and appeared right beside the bear. "You tried to defeat me in the contest of speed? You are a dumb animal after all"
I readied my sword for a strike and muttered under my breath.
[Thunderclap Strike]
