Last Wizard King's SSS-Level Magic system in Modern World-Chapter 116: You are a Coward- Part 1
Chapter 116: 116: You are a Coward- Part 1
"What kind of monster are we facing here? Hey, didn’t you say that this was a level B-dungeon for newbies? Then why are we getting our asses handed to us like this? Shit, we need to retreat now."
The leader of that small ragtag group of traffickers yelled as she dodged the icicles that rained on top of her head.
She had grabbed this assignment, thinking that it would be an easy task to do. But instead, she was faced with an opponent she could not handle.
"Leader, I have an idea. I can take this man out if we distract him a little. Do you think you can make that happen?"
One of the grunts asked in a certain voice. He looked ready to take on the challenge in front of him, but the leader did not seem so certain about it.
She took one look at Liam’s confident nature and felt herself falter.
"Not right now. Everyone, let’s retreat for now. We will try again once we regroup and form another plan. I will secure a path for us."
The leader bit her lip as she jumped back to avoid the attack. She managed to avoid it, but the same did not happen to her right-hand man standing beside her.
Most of her group was injured and would not be able to make it back on their own. She now had a decision to make.
"Leader, you head back first. I will stay here and distract him."
The leader looked at her left-hand man with a complicated expression on her face.
She was not ready to accept the fact that she would have to sacrifice someone here. But in the end, she considered what was better for her people and decided to head back.
"I understand. Then, I will leave it all up to you. Make sure you make it back to the group."
She relented and turned her head back. She trusted her underling completely and was even willing to show her back to him.
Unfortunately for her, she did not get to go very far. One minute after she started leading her group away from the fight, she heard the sound of leaves rustling. But she did not turn to look back.
That was her first mistake because she did not realize that she and her group were being targeted until she felt something yank her foot and make her lose her balance.
She was captured first, followed by the others who trusted her enough to follow her. Their struggle did not even last a second before Liam landed in front of her and put her unconscious companion beside her.
"This is fun. I feel like I can do a lot more than I was able to before. I think I am also getting the hang of how to use magic to enhance my senses. I can certainly see farther than before."
Liam commented as he knocked out the man who stayed back, giving the traffickers a chance to run away.
He was taking his time since he did not feel like he was in a rush, but the same could not be said for the half-dragon that was sitting on his shoulder.
"Liam, Oi! Hurry up. Otherwise, they will get away. Those humans need to be punished for daring to think of laying their hands on someone as great as me."
Asger had a lot to say, and he sounded irritable, but he seemed to be having fun as well. Liam ignored the complaining dragon and went after the small group that was trying to get away.
He was not going to give them a chance to escape him.
Liam chased after the fleeing group, his footsteps light as he weaved through the dense forest with ease.
Despite their frantic escape, he quickly noticed one thing—they weren’t looking back to check if he was following.
That meant they were either too panicked to think clearly or too confident in their ability to get away.
Either way, it worked in his favor.
With a flick of his fingers, Liam activated a spell, sending a pulse of magic through the ground.
The energy spread through the soil like roots, reaching the towering trees around them.
Suddenly, the forest came alive.Thick branches twisted unnaturally, roots surged upward, and the trees themselves bent forward as if responding to an unheard command.
Before the traffickers even realized what was happening, the ground beneath them shifted, causing them to stumble.
Large roots shot up, wrapping around their legs and arms, yanking them down and pinning them in place.
Liam landed beside them, his cloak barely shifting as he observed their struggles.
One of the men thrashed wildly, attempting to tear himself free, while another tried using magic, only to find that his power was being drained by the enchanted roots.
Their leader, the woman who had given the retreat order, gritted her teeth as she fought against the bindings, but it was useless.
"Don’t bother. This forest listens to me now. You won’t be escaping."
Liam said coolly, watching them struggle.
The leader glared at him, frustration evident in her sharp gaze.
"Coward. You think you’re strong, but all you do is hide behind tricks and magic. If you were truly capable, you’d fight us head-on instead of resorting to this"
She spat.
Liam tilted his head slightly, unimpressed by her attempt to rile him up.
"And why would I do that? You’re the ones who attacked me first. I simply responded in kind. What, did you expect me to play fair?"
He asked, raising a brow.
The woman’s lips pressed into a thin line before she exhaled sharply.
"Fine. If you let them go, I’ll surrender myself. Just let them leave."
Liam scoffed.
"Do you think I’m naive? I’m not foolish enough to let my attackers go. You made your choices. Now, deal with the consequences. I will hand you to the authorities once we get out of here."
He asked, his tone sharp.
The leader’s expression darkened, realizing Liam had no intention of letting them escape.
