Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix-Chapter 1151: Impatience
The hobgoblin charged toward Rain and then swung down its club when it got within his range. Rain rolled to the side and avoided the hit, but he felt the ground shaking. Without his proper defense, that probably could smash his head… ƒreewebɳovel.com
"No wonder the other guy decided to take his chances against me," Rain thought.
The monster soon raised its club and turned toward Rain, only to see him with an arrow in hand and ready to fire it. Even though he wasn't a master of it like Asche, Rain knew how to fire one at ten meters of distance, but the monster knew how to deal with one as well. He quickly raised his club and blocked the attack.
Rain grunted in annoyance and because of the pain in his arm as well. While that kind of challenge seemed like the proper way to start a life in another world, Rain had other problems on his hands. Thinking of that wasn't something that he finally could do it…
"Maybe if I increase my strength a bit more, the arrow will fly faster," Rain thought while considering his options.
The monster charged again and swung down his club from one side to the other. Rain jumped away and avoided those attacks by the skin of his teeth. Thanks to that, Elisabetha was starting to get annoyed by it… but she couldn't just make him use the ominous sword and cut down the bastard. She had to find a good reason for it, and she soon found it.
"Cut him down. I don't feel any eyes on us," Elisabetha said. "Think about it, this place doesn't look new and this kind of situation seems like something they would have made it happen countless times. How many times they would have seen people fighting goblins."
"Hmm… this is a fair argument, but I don't want to take any chances," Rain said. "Well, it is fine, I can finish this real quickly against this type of opponent."
In the next moment, when the monster was about to swing his club again, Rain suddenly waved his wounded arm toward the creature, and then a gush of blood fell on the eyes of the beast, forcing it to close them out of reflex. The monster soon recovered from that and cleaned his eyes, but Rain had disappeared… In he next moment, the beast felt a sharp and numb pain on his left ear.
Rain pierced it with an arrow and rotated it…

As the hobgoblin fell forward with a resounding crash, Rain swiftly moved to grab the massive club of the defeated beast. However, to his surprise, nothing happened. There was no notification of acquiring the monster's skill, leaving Rain thinking whether these creatures simply didn't possess any skills or if the system had different rules for gaining abilities from them.
Frustration could be seen across Rain's face as he examined the lifeless hobgoblin. It seemed the rules of this new system were not as straightforward as the paths he was accustomed to. The lack of a new skill didn't deter him, though; Rain knew he had to adapt quickly if he wanted to navigate this mysterious and annoying situation.
With a sigh, Rain turned his attention to the next door, wondering what challenges awaited him in the ever-evolving game orchestrated by the unseen overseers. Speaking of the overseer, Rain wondered if he would help the others in this situation where his system was sealed… it would be beneficial to him.
The other side of the door was sealed with a weird shadow that didn't seem like the ominous shadow of the corruption magic. It seemed like truly shadow magic or darkness magic… it looked like things were about to change a bit, and the enemies wanted to keep the participants guessing about what was going to happen.
"You must be so disappointed that Sakaki isn't with you to analyze all this," Elisabetha said.
"He is analyzing for Seara, so it is fine," Rain said, and then he crossed the shadow.
In the next moment, the arena-type environment had disappeared and then Rain found himself, standing in the middle of a forest… when he turned around, he didn't the walls anymore… it seemed that the shadows actually worked like some portal. The enemies sure were using a lot of neat tricks to keep him entertained, it wasn't working, though.
After looking around once more, Rain recognized that it was a tropical forest. The humidity was crazy there, but Rain felt pretty good with the weather. The vegetation and trees weren't that high, so moving was easy. The only issue was the eerily silence…
"I am really tired of this…" Elisabetha said. "This place is most likely just a massive sized domain where they changed the rules to create a system where they would make a single living being gain all the power of many others. With that in mind, can you just deal with this already? You don't have to use me."
"Don't even think of saying that kind of thing when my wives are around," Rain said. "Still, we need to be cautious and calm… by the way, can you still sense the presence of the other relics?"
"Yes… we changed locations, but they are still nearby… I wonder how is that possible?" Elisabetha asked while trying to sharpen her senses.
Rain found it strange that despite being in close proximity to the other relics, he couldn't hear any sounds of their battles. It dawned on him that even if they had moved on to the next area, their abilities would still be sealed unless they managed to create domains to some extent.
Even a very weaker one would be useful, even if they could only maintain it for a couple of seconds… it would be more than enough, actually. After considering that possibility, he couldn't help but consider something else...
