Chapter 34: The Electrokinetic Queen

Out of everyone in the room, she had chosen him. That wasn’t random, it was deliberate.

"What are you doing?" Axel asked. "Out of everyone here, why did you pick me?"

Nile scoffed, clearly unimpressed that he even had to ask.

"Don’t act dumb. You know exactly why."

"Actually, I don’t. So explain it."

"You got me arrested yesterday, dipshit!"

"I did what?"

"I was humiliated," Nile continued. "Knocked unconscious and dragged away in front of people. I was questioned, accused of being connected to those idiots in REIN all because of you!"

"That wasn’t my fault."

"You’re the reason they started pointing fingers. You were the one labeled a terrorist first and they thought it was affiliated with you."

"I’m not happy about that," she said. "And I want to beat you so badly that next time you’ll think twice before getting involved in things you don’t understand."

Axel stared at her for a long moment. Then he laughed quietly.

"That’s it? That’s why you’re angry?" he asked.

"Say that again and I’ll knock the air out of your lungs."

Axel stepped forward, closing the distance between them just a little. He didn’t care if she was a Spectra 2, he wasn’t planning on letting her walk over him.

"Oohf! I can feel the tension!" Someone giggled in the crowd.

"If you weren’t so obsessed with your loss to Ares, you wouldn’t have been following him around in the first place. And if you weren’t following him, you wouldn’t have been anywhere near me."

"Maybe next time, accept defeat in a healthy way." Axel told her bluntly and Nile’s face was ridden with something foreign to her. Shock.

For the first time since Axel had met her, Nile looked genuinely shocked.

No one had ever spoken to her like that. No one had ever thrown her own pride back in her face.

Around them, students exchanged looks, sensing the tension spike.

"That was a sick burn!" Someone exclaimed.

Nile’s lips parted slightly, but no words came out. Then her expression shifted. The surprise vanished, replaced by something colder.

"You really want to die today," she said quietly.

Before Axel could respond, a sharp clap echoed through the training hall.

Marc stepped forward, his presence immediately commanding attention.

"That’s enough!" he said. "Both of you."

He gestured toward the center of the chamber.

"Stand there."

Axel and Nile moved into position, facing each other beneath the glowing lights. The crowd formed a wide circle around them, excitement buzzing through the air.

"The rules are simple. The only way this ends is when one of you can no longer continue or yields. If your opponent dominates you, you lose automatically."

"There will be two rounds for this sparring session. One would be hand to hand combat with no powers. The other will be weapons combat with powers."

He looked at both of them in turn.

"Do you understand?"

"Yes," Nile said without hesitation.

Axel nodded.

Axel placed the sword down and cracked his knuckles. A familiar feeling washed over him. it was probably adrenaline. Just as expected, he recieved a system messege.

[Ding!]

[A brawl is imminent!]

[Battle Mode Initiated!]

[All stats are fully active!]

[Infernal Core is active!]

Axel could practically feel a strange energy pumping through his veins. It felt raw... it felt good.

[New Mission Received!]

[Defeat the Electrokinetic Queen known as Nile Reed in one out of two rounds]

[Reward: 50 EXP]

Axel’s breath caught for a second.

’50 bloody EXP...?!! I can level up soon!’

That was a huge reward and there was only one reason the system would offer that much.

Nile Reed was dangerous. She wasn’t just another academy student. She was a Spectra 2 mutant and a trained fighter. Beating her would be no small feat.

’Can I actually win this?’

Somewhere in the crowd, Ares folded his arms and shook his head.

"Ah, shit," he muttered. "He can’t beat her. She’s way too strong."

Rick glanced at him nervously. "We don’t know that. He has awakened his ability now remember?"

On the opposite side of the circle, Kinsey who was also in tge weapons hall, watched silently, her eyes were moving between Axel and Nile as she expressed her thoughts

’That red wave ability of his, if he uses it right, he might stand a chance.’

Nile, however, was smiling.

She had no idea how much Axel had changed since the test.

Marc raised one hand and ordered.

"Begin!"

Electricity exploded from Nile’s body as she took her first step forward.

This fight had begun.

"This is so fun to watch," a girl in the crowd commented just as Nile’s knee slammed into Axel’s jaw. The impact sent him rolling across the floor.

[-1 HP]

Her opening strike was precise, effortless, and flawless. This wasn’t even an ability display, it was just raw strength, yet she was already close to overwhelming him.

"Where’s that sharp mouth now?" Nile taunted coldly.

Axel clenched his fists and forced himself upright before launching forward. He aimed low, sweeping toward her leg in an attempt to knock her off balance, but Nile reacted instantly. She stepped back with fluid grace, twisted her body, and drove her knee straight into Axel’s head once more.

CRACK!

[-1 HP]

"Oooh!" A collective groan rippled through the audience as if they could feel the pain themselves.

Axel hadn’t landed a single clean hit since the fight began. As he staggered back, he realized something crucial, if he wanted even a chance at victory, brute force would not be enough. To defeat the so called Electrokinetic Queen, he would have to outthink her.

He sprinted forward again, deliberately closing the distance between them. This time, he lowered his stance and went for a fast jab aimed at her stomach. As expected, Nile caught his wrist and twisted it sharply, trying to neutralize him.

But Axel had anticipated that response.

Using the momentum of her grip, he spun, turning his back to her in one smooth motion before slamming his elbow backward into her jaw. The impact forced Nile to stumble, and for the first time since the fight began, Axel landed a clean hit.

Somewhere in the crowd, Ares grinned with satisfaction.

"That’s my boy," he muttered. "Show em what you got."

Nile straightened, eyes narrowing as she stared at Axel.

"You think that little trick was impressive?" she said scornfully. "Let me show you what a real move looks like."

She clenched her fist and drove it straight toward Axel’s shoulder. Knowing he could not dodge in time, Axel braced himself for the impact. Her punch connected hard, sending pain shooting through him, luckily, HP wasn’t reduced. Before Axel could react, Nile withdrew her arm and launched another strike toward his head.

Axel ducked just in time, narrowly avoiding the blow, but the relief was short lived as Nile’s knee once again was already rising toward his face.

’What the hell?!’

Axel panicked.

He barely managed to raise his arm in time to block the attack, but the force sent him tumbling backward, rolling across the cold floor. Nile had just executed something called a three-step strike. She had done this flawlessly, chaining her attacks seamlessly. It was clear now, she was not just powerful. She was truly highly trained.

Axel was still struggling to rise when Nile closed the distance in an instant. She brought her elbow down sharply, smashing it into his jaw.

CRACK!

[-1 HP]

The impact left Axel sprawled on the floor, his vision swimming.

Marc rose from his seat, his expression unreadable as he raised a hand.

"Winner," he announced calmly, "Nile Reed."
