Chapter 103: Chapter 103: President Nathan’s Attitude

"Cecilia..." Linden Nathan walked up to Cecilia Nathan. He was about to ask if she was okay when his eyes darted and saw Damian Hawthorne approaching. The words caught in his throat.

Linden Nathan gave his daughter a worried look and subconsciously took a step back.

He knew Cecilia didn’t want Damian to know her identity.

"Are you okay?" Damian strode up to Cecilia, grabbing her arm and instinctively looking her up and down.

Cecilia slowly shook her head, her gaze shifting to Sharon Quincy on the ground. Her voice was flat. "I’m not the one who’s hurt."

Seeing Sharon Quincy on the ground, Damian’s expression was blank. His eyes were as cold as if he were looking at a complete stranger.

"Don’t worry, she won’t die."

Damian couldn’t shake the feeling that Sharon’s earlier words had been strange, almost as if she knew something was going to happen to Cecilia.

Too many coincidences weren’t just a coincidence anymore.

Damian noticed the worried look on Linden Nathan’s face and said in a peculiar tone, "Mr. Nathan, you seem very concerned about Miss Quincy."

"It’s a human life, after all. And she just saved someone." Linden Nathan’s expression darkened. "If it weren’t for her just now, Ceci... Cecilia might have been the one hurt."

Damian raised an eyebrow, about to point out the suspicious things about Sharon, but the sound of an ambulance grew closer. In the end, Linden Nathan got into the ambulance.

Cecilia glanced at Damian and said, "I should go to the hospital too. After all, Sharon got hurt because of me."

’Even though I don’t like Sharon, Dad is right. This is a human life.’

’It’ll be fine if Sharon’s okay, but if something really happens to her, I’ll never have a moment’s peace for the rest of my life.’

「Korsyth First Hospital.」

Outside the emergency room, bodyguards stood in a neat line.

Cecilia sat on a nearby chair. A tall bodyguard in sunglasses stood beside her, speaking softly:

"Miss, after Mrs. Nathan passed away, President Nathan has been all alone. He’d endure minor illnesses like colds and fevers himself, refusing to even call a family doctor. He said it was the only way he could feel like he was still alive." At this, the bodyguard seemed to find it hard to continue. "Later, after Miss Quincy found out President Nathan was her sponsor, she started visiting him almost every week, bringing gifts. At first, President Nathan was lukewarm toward her, but over time, he started smiling more."

The bodyguard trailed off, hesitating to say more.

Cecilia’s eyes grew a little red.

She understood what the bodyguard meant.

’My mother died young, and my father threw himself into his career. For years, his life has been devoid of both familial affection and romantic love.’

’Sharon Quincy’s appearance filled that void to some extent.’

To Linden Nathan, Sharon was no longer just the needy student he sponsored.

Perhaps he truly saw her as a daughter.

Cecilia knew her father wasn’t easily moved. Since he had been, it meant Sharon must have put in a great deal of effort.

"I understand. Thank you."

After the bodyguard finished speaking with her, Linden Nathan cleared his throat and cautiously approached.

Seeing her in person this once was better than the thousands of times he had seen her on video.

His daughter had grown up. She’d become beautiful.

"Cecilia..." Linden Nathan’s voice was low and nervous. "Why didn’t you come find me at the hotel...?"

Linden Nathan had made thorough preparations after learning Cecilia wanted to see him.

He had even considered threatening Damian Hawthorne. As long as Cecilia still liked him, he would do whatever it took to make Damian yield.

As if reading his mind, Cecilia’s lips parted. "I saw Damian go into your room."

"You still don’t want him to know who you are?" Linden Nathan’s tone was heavy. "That Frances Bennett is a snob. She was the one who blocked you from entering the Hawthorne Family’s doors back then. If she knew you were my child, she might actually try to set you two up."

"That’s not necessary anymore." Cecilia gave a faint smile. "He has someone he likes, and I plan to give up on him."

"But doesn’t he have..." Seeing the look on Cecilia’s face, Linden Nathan stopped himself. "Are you afraid he... Cecilia, as long as you like him, Dad can arrange a marriage between our families. No one would be able to separate you then."

"Thank you, but no."

’If not Serena Hughes, there will just be another Serena.’

She was tired.

Cecilia glanced toward the emergency room. "Even though she just saved me, I can’t forget that she kidnapped me."

"I want to know how you plan to handle this."

Even though Sharon had saved her, Cecilia couldn’t forget the words Sharon had said as she lay on the ground.

She had said she knew her identity.

If that was the case, why kidnap her and nearly have someone ruin her?

None of Sharon’s actions seemed like something a normal person would do.

Even though Sharon had saved her in the end, she couldn’t bring herself to feel grateful.

"Dad will get to the bottom of the kidnapping. If she did it, I will not be lenient. I will make sure she gives you an explanation. But she also saved you today. I plan to grant one of her wishes, as a reward for saving your life."

After Linden Nathan finished, Cecilia nodded.

No matter what Sharon had done before, she had, after all, saved her.

If it hadn’t been for Sharon, she might have been hit and killed.

After an unknown amount of time, the light above the emergency room door changed. The doors opened, and the doctors filed out.

Linden Nathan immediately walked over and asked, "How is she?"

"The patient is out of immediate danger, but one of her arms was severely injured. We need to conduct further examinations. The best-case scenario is a bone fracture; the worst-case... the patient might lose an arm."

After the doctor spoke, Linden Nathan’s brow furrowed deeply. "Please use the best techniques to save her arm. You can even bring in specialists from other places. Don’t worry about the cost. Please, give her the best of everything."

Hearing this, the doctors all breathed a sigh of relief.

"Rest assured, our medical equipment here in Korsyth is among the best in all of Veridia. Our hospital also excels at surgical procedures. As long as it can help the patient, we will employ the best medical resources available."

"The patient is not in life-threatening danger now, but we will still arrange for her to be in an intensive care unit. We hope the family will cooperate and try not to have too many people going in to disturb the patient’s rest." 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

After speaking, the doctors glanced at the bodyguards and gave them a polite nod.

The rows of bodyguards standing there had put a lot of pressure on the doctors just now.

Thankfully, the examination and surgery were both successful. Otherwise, they feared they might have paid with their lives.

Linden Nathan glanced at the bodyguards beside him and waved them off. "You all go downstairs and wait for me. I’m just going to say a few words to Sharon, and then I’ll be back."

The bodyguards quickly filed out.

Sharon Quincy was wheeled into the intensive care unit. Linden Nathan patted Cecilia’s head and said kindly, "Cecilia, I’m going in to ask her a few things. Do you want to come with me?"
