I Try To Enjoy My Life But This Woman Keep Calling Me Villain-Chapter 220: Peaceful Days
Days passed, and the Northern Nobles still demanded I hand over the barrier protecting Cunningham County and the Southern Territory. They never once think about the reason why I focus on giving the Southern people the barrier. We are the territory with the most monsters attacked, and they even dare to tell me that they deserve the barrier more than my people.
If it had not been for Silva and Hilda, I might have resorted to more drastic measures. By drastic measure, I mean giving Jonathan the green light to do whatever he wants to do to the Northern Nobles. Even though Jonathan can hide their bodies after he is done, it will not create a good look for us when Noble Lords start disappearing in my territory.
The only Northern territory that benefits from my barrier is the one owned by the Royal Family. This was the result of a painstaking negotiation between the king and my father, as detailed in the letter my mother sent me.
They are still in the capital city because the king asked them to stay there for a week to give him the report regarding the south. My mother did not say anything other than that, but she wrote something about the king wanting to create a new bridge between the Royal Family and the Cunningham Family.
"Gwyn."
I snap from my thoughts and see Silva with another stack of paper. I release a sigh and say.
"What is it, this time? Another demand?"
"It is not that this time, dear. It is from the other Southern Nobles. They want to ask you if you can visit their territory and check on the strange movement around their territories."
"Huh? Is there something wrong with their territories?"
"According to one of the letters, the monsters in their territory are running around as if they are getting chased by something stronger. Lord Griffith is the first to report the monsters’ strange behavior."
Griffith Viscounty is a mountainous territory. Most of their territory is either hills or mountains. The main income from this viscounty is the mine, but before I do the culling, this income is cut tremendously because the monsters occupy most of the mine. Lord Griffith cannot take over them without large casualties and money, so he decides to go on the defensive and guard the remaining mine with all the soldiers he can muster.
"Can’t they do the investigation themselves?"
"They have. However, even after a week of searching, they still could not find the culprit that caused this. Lord Griffith already faces a stampede and wants to prevent another one. He asks you if you are willing to help them."
I think for a few seconds before saying.
"I cannot go to his territory at the moment. Please call Jonathan to meet–"
Before I finish my words, I hear someone knock on the window. I release a sigh when I see Jonathan standing outside my window. I open the window and say.
"You really need to stop that, Jonathan."
"It is a coincidence, I swear. One of the bug colonies I have made the tree outside the window as their nest."
"Are you sure it was the case? It is not because you force them to make a nest there. I know you put some kind of concoction around the trees and some branches a couple of months ago."
Jonathan looks away and mutters something.
"Pardon me?"
"I just want to make sure you are safe! The bugs will notify me if someone is sneaking around the mansion."
I smile a little and say.
"I am not upset, Jonathan. In fact, I am flattered you go beyond to make sure we are safe. However, please tell me what kind of thing you put around the mansion to make sure it won’t hurt me and my family."
Jonathan nods his head and says.
"I understand. I shall write a report about all the things I put around the mansion."
"Good boy."
I can see him shudder at my praise. I ignore that and say.
"Now, do you hear the reason why I want you here?"
"Yes. You want me to visit Griffith Viscounty."
"Aye. I need your tracking skills to search for the monster that caused the stampede around Griffith Viscounty. Can you do that for me?"
"Anything for you, my lord! I shall hunt that monster and make sure the peace you create will last forever."
"Right. If you need a crew, I can ask some people from Fenrir Squad to accompany you."
He raises his finger for a second before putting it down.
"I think I will take two or three of them. Can I choose which people to come with me?"
"Of course. Just make sure to tell me who they are before you depart."
"I will, my lord."
"Good. You can go now, and don’t forget the list of things you put around the mansion."
"Of course."
Jonathan bows and leaves my office to recruit people to his crew. I look at Silva and say.
"Anything else, dear?"
"With the monster taken care of, that only leaves the news from the Western Continent, Gwyn."
"Oh?" 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
"It is a letter from Princess Vida asking if we are willing to sell them a dozen or so barriers for them."
Silva gives me the letter, and I chuckle a little when I see Vida ask me directly without any sweet talk like many Northern Nobles and even the kingdom from the Central Continent.
"What will you do, Gwyn? Will you send some to them?"
"I think I will. I will tell her that I am willing to sell some to them."
"That will anger the Northern Nobles even more."
"Let them be. They are demanding and not asking. Even when they want to buy the barrier, they ask it as if there is no grudge between our two territories. They never once apologize or even see us as equals. They look at us as a merchant instead of fellow lords."
Silva nods her head in understanding and says.
"That is good. I don’t like them either. If not for the necessity, my father would never ask them for help and trade with them."
I smile and say.
"That is true. Anyway, is there anything else I should know?"
Silva shakes her head and says.
"Nothing that requires your attention, and the majority of them have already been taken care of."
I get up and pull her onto the couch.
"You have been working really hard. I think it is time for me to reward you."
I gently kiss her and feel her warm breath as she looks at me right in the eyes.
"Are you sure it is not me who is the one rewarding you?"
I smile and say.
"Why not both?"
