Chapter 221: Chapter 221: Threat of War

I release a sigh as another letter from the north demands me to give them the barrier, but this time, they even make a threat of war against my family.

"Are they stupid?"

"Hmm? What is it now, dear?"

I give the letter to Hilda and Silva for them to read and say.

"Just like before, they demand that I give them the magical formula of the barrier."

"But this time, they dare to make a threat."

Hilda grits her teeth after she is done reading the content of the letter.

"Aye. That changes things. Jonathan"

I look out of the window and call one of my trusted knights. I see him land on the branch and say.

"My lord?"

"Can you go north and investigate what makes them brave enough to make a threat to our family?"

"Of course, my lord. What do I do after I find the evidence?"

There is no if in his statement. Jonathan believes that he will find the evidence. Pride and confidence are good, but too much of them can be dangerous. I will tell him about that later. His tone is borderline arrogant, and I don’t want my people to become one.

"For now, your main objective is to bring that evidence back here. I will allow you to punish them, but make sure not to be too excessive and that they cannot be traced here."

Jonathan’s expression lights up at the mention of punishment, and he nods.

"Of course, my lord. I shall bring that evidence."

"Good. You can go now."

After saying that, Jonathan jumps down the tree and departs to investigate the north. I shake my head and look at my wives.

"Silva, can you send a letter to my Good Father about this situation? I don’t want him to be caught unprepared in case they are truly willing to go to war." 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

"Of course, Gwyn. I will send a letter to him this evening."

I look at Hilda and say.

"Please do the same, Hilda. They might be far away, but it is better to be prepared."

Hilda nods her head and says.

"I will write home. They will prepare."

"Thank you. I know this sounds paranoid, but I have a bad feeling about this letter and want to be prepared for the worst."

"Don’t worry, Gwyn. With what happened recently, I understand the reason for your worry."

I nod and smile at the two of them before saying.

"What do you think of a little bit of sparring? All of this sitting behind the desk hurts my body. A little sparring will fix it."

Hilda lights up and says.

"Sure! Let’s go!"

I look at Silva and say.

"What about you, Silva?"

"I think I will train my magic rather than go physical."

"Sure. I can get a few books from the Guild HQ."

"Can you get the druid books? I want to learn how to be one."

"Oh? Really?"

"Yes. After watching you fight, I want to learn how to be one."

"Very well, I can give you a few books on how to be a druid."

==//==

I throw an uppercut and watch as Hilda throws a left hook to my face, and my punch hits her jaw. She might look small, but Hilda can throw a punch. Thanks to my stats, it might not hurt much to me, but to others. It is like you are getting kicked by a kangaroo. It hurts.

As our two punches meet, I can see Hilda stagger a little bit and wipe the blood from her mouth.

"Give up?"

"Nope!"

After shouting that word, she jumps at me and throws a flurry of punches. I raise my hand and each of her punches, but after a few seconds of blocking, she grabs my hand and twists me. She used my weight against me and threw me to the ground.

She sits on my body and gives me a grin.

"I win."

I smile and say.

"Yeah. It is my loss."

She gets off my body, and I stand up.

"You might be stronger than me, but you underestimate me enough for me to lure you into a trap."

I nod in understanding and say.

"Yeah. I understand. I will fix it."

It looks like it is not only Jonathan who gets too confident in our power. I also need a wake-up call, and I am lucky it is my wife who does that to me instead of an enemy. I look at Hilda and say.

"Lunch?"

"Lunch!"

With that, we walk toward Silva, who is reading the spell books I have given her. She looks at us and smiles.

"Are you two done?"

I nod and say.

"We are done for today. After the sparring, we were both hungry. Do you two want some sandwiches?"

"Turkey sandwich for me, please!"

Hilda cheerfully tells me what she wants, and I look at Silva.

"What about you?"

"Hmmm~ I think I will take the meatball sandwich."

I nod and take out the sandwich they want from my guild base. Anything stored there will not be spoiled. That means the food from the Second Life will always be fresh and delicious, even after a long time. I even use the storage in the guild base to store anything I get from this world.

"What about you, Gwyn?"

I take out a tuna sandwich and say.

"I want some tuna."

I sit next to Silva, and Hilda sits next to me. The three of us enjoy our food and the breeze that flies past us. Today is a good day.

|3rd POV|

Jonathan managed to sneak through the security. He is currently sneaking into Baron Kulan’s mansion, the group leader who makes a threat to the Cunningham Family. With the help of the spy network he created long ago, he can easily find the leader behind this threat. There is also a reason for them not hiding their intention.

He manages to enter the Lord’s Office, but before he can search the office, he can hear someone walking toward the office. He takes out a scroll Gwyn gave him and rips it. A second later, his entire body disappears, and he stands in the corner of the room.

A few seconds later, Lord Torren Kulan entered the room with a man wearing a robe that covered his face.

"Is the ritual finished?"

"Of course, sir. After sacrificing two hundred beggars for a ’job,’ we feed the crystal with high-grade agony and hopelessness; it is done. We can summon twenty high-ranking monsters or a monster wave."

Jonathan holds back himself from killing the man and continues to listen.

"I will leave that decision to you. Where is the crystal? I shall prepare for the final ritual."

Torrent Kulan pushes a stone on the wall and reveals a hidden room full of gold and many treasures. He ignores them all and removes a dark purple crystal from the pedestal. He gives the crystal to the man in the robe.

"Of course, sir. However, can I ask if you will send some of your magicians to help us?"

"Promise is a promise. We shall send thirty magicians to help you in this war."

"Thank you, sir. Don’t worry. After this war is over, we will sacrifice more humans to the one true God."

The robed man nods and says.

"Don’t disappoint me. We must destroy the Cunningham Family or kill Gwyndolin Cunningham."

"Of course! Leave him to me! With the weapon you gave me, killing him is easy."

The robed man nodded and teleported away from the room. Lord Torren leaves the room with a smile on his face and lets Jonathan finally move. Jonathan wants to locate the robed man, but he knows that it is pointless because he doesn’t know where his magic takes him. He wants to kill Torrent, but it will create a problem because they will not know who the robed man will choose to lead the others in the incoming war.

So Jonathan does what he can only do right now.

He presses the stone to open the secret vault and takes out a special bag Lord Cunningham gives him. He pushes all the gold and valuable items into the bag, and after a few minutes, the entire vault is empty.

"Now... I need to inform Lord Gwyndolin about this situation."
