I Returned to the Day He Brought His First Love Home-Chapter 121: Shut Your Mouths
Irene Lynch went into the room to get some money. She opened a cookie tin, and the cash inside was folded neatly.
Gregory Winslow’s year-end bonus was pretty good. His usual monthly income was around eighty or ninety yuan, but he received nearly two hundred at the end of the year, which instantly replenished what they had spent before.
Irene Lynch hesitated for a moment before counting out one hundred yuan and stuffing it into her pocket.
Grace Winslow had to report to her university after the fifteenth day of the first lunar month. Time was tight, so they couldn’t hold her farewell party at the same time as Bonnie’s one-month celebration.
Irene Lynch went out early in the morning to buy vegetables and meat.
The variety of goods at the co-op had increased quite a bit, so she bought a little of everything.
They didn’t invite many people, just some close relatives over for a meal to celebrate.
Grace Winslow was busy with the process of transferring her household registration. She had been running around for the past few days, too busy to stop.
When the eighth day of the lunar month arrived, all the paperwork was finally completed, and she let out a slow sigh of relief.
Everything was finally settled.
Looking at the household registration certificate and the university acceptance letter in her hands, Grace Winslow still felt like she was dreaming.
In her past life, she had given up so much for Caleb Forrest.
She had willingly become a housewife, managing every aspect of their home for him.
She had never once complained.
Even when she fell gravely ill from overwork and Caleb Forrest gave up on her treatment, she held no resentment in her heart.
The only thing she resented was Caleb Forrest’s ambiguous, decades-long affair with Ivy White, which he had hidden from her the entire time.
Now that she had given up on Caleb Forrest, on marriage, and on so-called love, she was focused solely on living for herself. By doing all the things she had once wanted to do but couldn’t, she finally felt that her life had no regrets.
This kind of life was what she truly wanted.
’This lifetime, I will never give this up for anyone.’
Because Grace had to report to school early in Coronet, and they also needed to find a house and get settled, Irene Lynch planned to leave for Coronet with her on the twelfth.
On the tenth, the Winslow family hosted a party.
Gregory Winslow’s boss, Oscar Osborne, was there, as were May Callahan, Lily Callahan’s mother, her older brother and sister-in-law, and her younger brother and sister-in-law.
Hayley’s parents and siblings also came.
The Winslow home was packed with people, so much so that there wasn’t enough room for everyone to sit.
Hayley’s parents pulled her aside and asked in a low voice, "We heard you’re in business and making money now? You can’t still be subsidizing that Grace Winslow, can you? Let me tell you, you need to think about yourself. You have two sons. While you’re still young, you should hurry up and have a few more. With more children, you’ll have people to help you out if anything happens later."
Hayley looked helpless. "Mom, what are you talking about? Grace was the one who gave me the startup money for my business. What money could she possibly want from me?"
"Then you should hurry up and pay her back, so you don’t have to split your profits with her when you start making big money. You’re earning quite a bit each month now. Your sister-in-law already told me," Carol Lowell huffed, clearly displeased with Hayley.
Hayley frowned, glancing at her sister-in-law before speaking coldly, "Mom, I don’t like it when you talk like that."
"We agreed from the very beginning. We’d do business, Grace would provide the capital, and we’d split the profits fifty-fifty. I can’t be the kind of petty person who abandons integrity for profit, like you’re asking."
"Besides, this is my family’s business. You should stay out of it."
"I’m married now. It’s not appropriate for you to meddle in my household’s affairs."
"Hey, you wretched girl! Who am I doing all this for? Isn’t it for you? Look at you, how can you not appreciate what’s good for you?" Enraged, Carol Lowell reached out to pinch Hayley.
Ronald Yancey also spoke up. "Hayley, your mom isn’t trying to harm you. Even if you have money, what’s wrong with spending it on your brothers and nephews? Grace is just a girl who will eventually marry out of the family. No matter how nice you are to her, it’s useless."
"Useless? All I know is that when I was giving birth to my second son, I had a difficult labor and nearly died at home. It was Grace who insisted on taking me to the hospital, saving both my life and my son’s."
"Yes, you gave birth to me and raised me, and I should repay you. But for all these years, I’ve given you most of my monthly salary. Isn’t that enough?"
"And now you’re still trying to get your hands on my money."
"Mom, Dad, search your hearts. Compared to you two, Grace is more like my real family. All you do is exploit me, and you even expect me to support my brothers and raise their children. What are you thinking?"
"If you’re here today to have a nice meal and offer a few words of blessing, then we can continue to see each other normally, and I won’t short you on the money I give you each month."
"But if you cause trouble for me on a happy day like today, don’t blame me for turning my back on you."
Hayley was not the type to passively accept mistreatment.
Although she cared about her family, she was married to Brandon Winslow now, so she naturally prioritized her own little family more.
Besides, she could see clearly who was good to her and who was not.
Grace was good to her, and also good to her two little ones.
As for her own birth family, she knew exactly what kind of people they were.
She had lived with them for twenty years. How could she not know their true colors?
Hearing Hayley’s merciless words, Ronald Yancey’s expression changed.
Carol Lowell raised her hand to strike her.
Brandon Winslow’s gaze swept over, and Carol Lowell’s hand froze in mid-air.
She gave an awkward laugh and lowered her hand. "Son-in-law, I’m just trying to do what’s best for you. You have two sons, don’t you? Won’t it cost money for them to get married in the future?"
"You seem to feel very entitled to our money," Brandon Winslow snorted coldly.
If it weren’t a special occasion, a happy day for Grace, he would have thrown the whole family out.
Seeing that Brandon Winslow had spoken, Carol Lowell faltered. She was still a little afraid of him.
After all, Brandon’s imposing aura was intimidating when he was silent.
Once they quieted down, Brandon Winslow pulled Hayley with him and squeezed into the house.
There were simply too many people.
"Mom, Dad, there are too many people, and not enough seats. Why don’t we just go eat at the state-run restaurant?" Brandon Winslow said, assessing the situation.
Many of Gregory Winslow’s leaders and friends had come, along with a few of Irene Lynch’s close friends.
After this farewell, there was no telling when they would all be able to see each other again.
The moment Brandon Winslow finished speaking, Irene Lynch shook her head and refused. "No, why spend that kind of money? Can’t we set up a few tables on the rooftop terrace? We’ll move the tables up there in a bit. The weather is nice today and it’s not too windy. It’s a perfect day to eat upstairs."
"Everyone, please excuse us. Our home is small, so please forgive our poor hospitality."
Getting a free meal, the guests naturally weren’t going to complain. They all politely said it was no problem.
Nolan Winslow and Brandon Winslow helped carry the tables upstairs, while Grace Winslow and Hayley also pitched in.
Lily Callahan was still in her postpartum confinement month, so she was staying in Grace Winslow’s room with her baby and didn’t go out.
The large crowd of people swarmed up to the rooftop, and the house suddenly became much quieter.
Lily Callahan hadn’t been sleeping well at night these past few days. Taking care of the baby was exhausting, and she felt drowsy.
In her drowsy state, she heard a noise. She opened her eyes to see a child rummaging through the chests and cabinets in Grace Winslow’s room, looking for something.
She jolted awake and shouted, "What are you doing? Are you stealing something?"
