Chapter 89: Chapter 89: Transactions

"You’re speaking like I’m a whore!"

Erin is visibly angry, smoke comes out of her ear.

"You were acting like one."

"Fine. I won’t do it again!"

Blaze nods with approval.

"So do you have any services that are useful to an Awakened like me?"

"I can help measure the compatibility between you and the upcoming Extraction Pills. Interested?"

"Ah..."

Blaze recalls that Preston did say something about the Pocket Center being able to measure the affinity between an Extraction and the Awakened.

Blaze just does not have any demand for it, as the System can do this job perfectly fine.

"Do you have any other services? Do you sell Extractions?"

"I have a lot of Extractions in stock.

Take a look."

Erin walks up to a wall and presses down onto an invisible button on its surface.

The wall splits open and reveals a hidden shelf inside. On it are several different spherical Extraction Pills with all of the colors of the rainbow and more.

"Can I touch it?"

"Please. Be my guest."

Blaze picks up a random red Extraction Pill.

[Detecting unknown energy!]

[Identify Red Pecker’s Extraction]

[Red Pecker’s Extraction]

- Affinity with Thunder Force (A-rank): 0.9%

- Affinity with Genesis Legion (S-rank): 5.4%

- Affinity with Beast Link (C-rank): 3.7%

- Affinity with Lightning Ascension (A-rank): 0.9%

All of the affinities are under 10%. Not good to even try risking consuming the pill.

Blaze puts down the red pill and tries another one.

[Identify Prison Guard’s Extraction]

[Prison Guard’s Extraction]

- Affinity with Thunder Force (A-rank): 0.5%

- Affinity with Genesis Legion (S-rank): 7.6%

- Affinity with Beast Link (C-rank): 1.2%

- Affinity with Lightning Ascension (A-rank): 0.4%

Another useless Extraction.

Erin watches Blaze’s action carefully. She is very curious about what he’s trying to do.

In the Pocket Center, there are no such things as robbing. The rules of this place dictate that everyone must act in a civilized manner, preventing any conflict from happening.

Erin was trying to see if Blaze would try to do something like that since he has quite an intimidating presence.

People like him always like to take what they like without actually paying. Erin hasn’t seen a man being taught a lesson like that for quite a while.

But in contrast to Erin’s anticipation, Blaze only picks up and observes the pill each by each, without actually doing anything.

However, he doesn’t say anything either and keeps picking and putting down Extraction.

"What are you doing?"

[Identify Master Puppet’s Extraction]

[Identify Elemental Ant’s Extraction1]

[Identify Skeletal Opossum’s Extraction]

[Identify Lion King’s Extraction]

Hmm? Lion? I wonder if this extraction is useful to Alyson.

"How much is this?"

"Oh, nice find. That’s the Lion King’s Extraction. It is a D-rank Crisis Extraction. Do you want to measure your affinity with it?"

"No. I wasn’t thinking of using this for me. Is there any way to measure its affinity with someone else’s power?"

"I’m afraid that is a no. They need to be here themselves for me to measure it."

Blaze is also curious about how the Conductors will measure the Awakened Affinity. Blaze keeps browsing the Extraction, hoping to find something useful for his power.

[Identify Cloud Drifter’s Extraction]

- Affinity with Thunder Force: 77.20%

- Affinity with Genesis Legion: 6.8%

- Affinity with Beast’s Link: 0.8%

- Affinity with Lightning Ascension: 91.56%

An Extraction with an Affinity over ninety percent. This is what Blaze is looking for.

In Blaze’s hand is an off-white pill. Inside it is a turbulent cloud that is spinning around itself.

"How much is this?" Blaze says.

"Ah. The Cloud Drifter’s Extraction. That thing is a D-rank pill.

The original owner got the core from the sixth layer of the Void, if I remember correctly.

You can exchange it for two pills of your D-rank Extraction."

"Two to one? That’s a bit unfair, don’t you think?"

"Well. It is the norm here. We always sell higher and buy lower. You can try to talk with other Conductors if you don’t believe me."

"It’s alright. I believe you."

Blaze already knows that the Extraction of Specter’s Core and Wood Revenant’s Core is useless to him. Better exchange it for something more useful.

"So how do we measure the affinity?"

"Come here."

Erin takes the Cloud Drifter’s Extraction and goes to another table that is near the glass window. She puts it inside a slot of some sort.

Opposite her side on the table is a hand-shaped engraving.

"Put your hand on the spot. If any of your power has an affinity with the Extraction, your power should be called out naturally."

Blaze does as she said and puts his hand on the engravings.

The entire table lights up in a white color. Then yellow lightning immediately exudes out of Blaze’s hand. His lungs also light up, the electricity stored inside the organ becomes agitated, screaming out of hunger.

"Oh?! Two very similar powers that are somehow connecting together.

How did you even manage to awaken these powers?"

"My genes are good."

"Haha. Well. As you can see. Two of your powers are very suitable to consume the Extraction.

See this symbol? If it’s filled up a lot, then it means your affinity is very good. So you should have no problem consuming the Extraction."

There is a water drop symbol in between Blaze’s hand and the slot, which Erin has put the Extraction into. The water drop lights up almost entirely, showing his affinity with the energy inside the Extraction.

"So how many pills are you taking? I still have around twenty Cloud Drifter’s Extractions left."

"I’ll take five. And how many Lion King’s Extractions do you have left?"

"That is a rare one. I have three in stock, including the one you have seen. That one is three for one, though."

"I’ll give you eight Extraction Pills in exchange for all three. Along with ten pills for five Cloud Drifter’s Extractions."

"Deal!"

An hour soon passes. Specter’s Core produces seven pills. Wood Revenant’s Core produces eight pills. And the Winged Dinosaur’s Core produces a whopping twelve pills.

The System really does a great job at dissecting the Core. Its condition makes the Extraction Pills produced much more than the handmade.

"It’s a pleasure doing business with you. Want to give me your Conductor Card"?

"You even know about them? You must have lots of connections inside the Pocket Center. Conductors don’t just give them out for free."

"Well? What’s your answer"?

"Fine. Take it."

Erin takes a card out from inside her cropped top.

Blaze freezes in place and does not take the card.

"What? Don’t you tell me you don’t want it?"

"I’m only afraid there might be germs on it."

"..."

Red fills Erin’s face. Not the cute red of shyness like Alyson but the anger red. She looks like she wants to slap Blaze in the face.

He takes the card eventually to avoid making her explode. The card is warm, lingering the scent of Erin on it.

It is a silver card with her portrait on it. A charming girl with a ponytail.

Hope Alyson won’t have any wrong idea when she sees this.

"I have some Crisismaterials. Do you take them?"

"Materials? You have to check with Conductors that specialize in that profession. Try the second door from the left when you enter Pocket Center."

"Is that so? Thank you, Erin. I’ll be back later."

Blaze walks to the balcony door. This is where he has entered from. There is no other door inside the room.

A very weird structure, to be honest.

The crime scene has been ongoing down there for almost an hour, and the rain does not stop. Blaze thinks maybe this room is really an illusion.

While Francois’s seems like an actual place with normal structure. The style of Erin’s room is wrong in all aspects. No other doors except the one leading to the balcony.

The rain, the crime scene, and the motionless moon. All point to a fake reality.

Erin doesn’t seem to be lying either.

So who is actually telling the truth?

Blaze wonders. He has processed most of his items now. There are still the materials left, but he has no more time to revisit the Pocket Center again.

Something has happened.

In another part of Arkansas, Sebastian Herrera is drenched in blood. Surrounding him is a pile of corpses. All wear police uniforms.

He wants to do this the easy way, but they all wanted to hide the truth.

He has no other choice than to enact justice on his own.

He steps forward, entering the warehouse. His hand is gripping an old grey revolver.

Outside the warehouse, Isaac stands on his two little feet on an electrical wire. His five red eyes focus on Sebastian.

Master, please come! Your candidate is killing.
