Chapter 59: Chapter 59: One as Shadow

At the same time when the Consumables appear, a message from the System pops up.

[New Consumable has been added to the Store!]

[STORE]

[Consumables]

- Matchstick: 10 EXP

- Blood Potion: 200 EXP

- Mind Potion: 200 EXP

- Celestial Contract: 1000 EXP

[Equipment]

- Grappling Hook (Common): 500 EXP

A new icon fills the grid of the Store. A piece of glowing paper is now sitting amongst the other Consumables.

Blaze rubs his jaw, thinking about what just happened. It seems like the Store only has items that he has already possessed. The only exceptions are the Blood Potion and Mind Potion.

He picks up one of the papers and takes a look at its content.

Apart from its shiny outlook, the Contract feels rather ordinary, its paper is soft to touch, similar to the surface of silk. On it are several empty spaces to put more content in.

[Celestial Contract]

[Name of Contract: Empty]

[Clauses: Put all the clauses of the contract here; you can have a maximum of five clauses to the agreement.]

- First Clause: (Empty)

- Second Clause: (Empty)

- Third Clause: (Empty)

- Fifth Clause: (Empty)

[Contract Provider: The one who provides the clauses]

[Contract Parties: The one who will sign the Contract]

[You can have a maximum of five different parties that sign the contract]

[The parties do not need to be one individual and can be a group, organization, etc...]

[Each party must have a designated group name if there are more than one individual]

[Each individual who participates in the Contract will use their true name]

- Party One: (Empty)

- Party Two: (Empty)

- Party Three: (Empty)

- Party Four: (Empty)

- Party Five: (Empty)

[Oath Signatures: Both the Provider and Parties must sign here to activate the contract]

[Celestial Contract currently provides five different Oaths: Blood Oath; Soul Oath; Essence Oath; Celestial Oath; Servitude Oath.]

[The Provider can remove other Oaths in the Celestial Contract]

[Contract Parties can sign different Oaths in one Contract]

- Blood Oath: The contract is bound to the Parties’ physical body and bloodline.

- Soul Oath: The contract is bound to the Parties’ spiritual soul and being.

- Essence Oath: The contract is bound to the Parties’ existence in the current timeline.

- Celestial Oath: The contract is bound to the Cosmic Order.

- Servitude Oath: The contract is bound to the Parties’ freedom and free will.

Blaze keeps reading and reading the words on the Celestial Contract. It starts out normal and slowly becomes more and more inconceivable.

He even sees something very familiar. The Blood Oath, the Oath that is also residing in his Moonlight Karambit.

"Does this mean that Father has signed something similar in the past?" 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

Blaze mumbles. His father died due to sickness. It was a devastating disease that no doctor was able to cure. They didn’t even know what type of disease it was.

Now looking back, his death was shrouded in mystery, and more may be going on that Blaze and Kana don’t even know about.

For some reason, Blaze suddenly thinks that his father may have broken the Blood Oath and led to his death.

It’s only a theory. But his death is so bizarre that Blaze cannot get this thought out of his head.

"System. Can you explain to me what will happen if one breaks a Blood Oath?"

A message immediately pops up.

[Blood Oath is bound to one physical body and bloodline. If the Party decides to break a Blood Oath, their body will likely perish.]

[The exact punishment will be decided by the clauses of the contract but will be restricted to affecting the Party’s physical body and/or bloodline.]

Blaze inhales. It is obvious now.

His father died due to breaking a Blood Oath. Now, this Oath has been passed down to him by the Moonlight Karambit.

"System. What is the Blood Oath inside the Moonlight Karambit? Are there any clauses inside it like the Celestial Contract?"

The System seems very talkative today. It answers Blaze’s question.

[No clauses detected inside Moonlight Karambit. The Karambit is bound to the user’s bloodline. Anyone with the user’s bloodline can use the equipment.]

Blaze swipes his sweat away. Luckily, it seems like there is only the Blood Oath inside the Karambit without any actual conditions or restrictions applying to him.

He was worried that his freedom may be signed away without his knowledge already.

Blaze puts the Celestial Contracts inside the Inventory. He hasn’t thought of a use for them yet.

"Now. There are the Equipment Kits left."

Blaze received three different Equipment Kits for killing Nadyr. One Expansion, one Enhancement, and one Booster.

The Equipment Expansion Kit and Enhancement Kit have an Uncommon rarity. This means Blaze cannot use them for any equipment with a rarity higher than Uncommon.

Right now, he only has the Grappling Hook and the Tattered Cloak that fit this category.

The Grappling Hook is very useful, but upgrading it is like gambling. It may be good or bad. Blaze doesn’t need it to be enhanced anyway. It is perfectly useful as it is right now.

The Tattered Cloak, on the other hand, has a lot of space to improve. Its only Hidden Power, One with Shadow, just got a tiny upgrade when used in combination with Tattered Mask.

Light no longer neutralizes the invisibility this Hidden Power provides. It sounds very good, but in practice, there are still limitations.

If there is no darkness in the surrounding area, the Hidden Power will still cancel itself. Only if there are shades or shadows around can the Tattered Cloak stay invisible when Blaze is illuminated.

"Alright. Let use the Expansion Kit on the Tattered Cloak."

[Applying Equipment Expansion Kit to Tattered Cloak (Uncommon)...]

[Congratulations, your Tattered Cloak (Uncommon) has awakened a new Hidden Power, One as Shadow]

- One as Shadow: You can turn yourself into a soundless, intangible, and two-dimensional shadow. You can only travel on a two-dimensional surface. This ability is neutralized if you are illuminated by any light source.

The change happens quickly and without any commotion. The icon of the Tattered Cloak in the Inventory doesn’t even have any changes.

Blaze equips it to see if it has any physical changes, but no, it is exactly the same as before.

"Well, let try the new power. One as Shadow!"

Blaze’s tall, shadowy figure loses every detail of its appearance, only retaining a black color.

He turns into a strip of shadow and seeps into the floor.

On the ground, a two-dimensional shadow of the Wraith is now visible.

He tries moving around in this form. The shadow becomes a strip of darkness and goes around on the floor.

He, however, cannot jump on the wall or reach out to other objects. To climb on their surface, the shadow must touch the object first.

So to run on the wall, Blaze has to reach the root of it first before he can climb to its surface.

It is the same with every other object.

What’s particular about this power is that the shadow doesn’t have any actual volume. The shadow can climb up onto a small table and shrink down to its size.

The shadow can also enlarge to almost fill the entire wall of Blaze’s room.

But that is the limitation of the transformation.

Blaze can’t climb on smaller objects like a baseball or a phone and cannot enlarge himself too much to fill the entire room.

The limit of scaling is around three times Blaze’s normal shadow. The shadow can be three times smaller or larger, and that’s it.

Blaze returns to his normal shadow size again.

On the floor, golden patterns appear on the position of the shadow’s face, visible even to the naked eye.

Blaze equips the Tattered Mask to see if it will affect the new Hidden Power like it did with One with Shadow.
