I Only Want To Kill-Chapter 56: Arranged Marriage
"Do you want to go inside, Mr. Aldrin?"
Blaze takes a step aside.
"This Awakened hasn’t registered yet. I do not recommend you put yourself in danger, sir."
A bodyguard says. Information pops up in his sunglasses, identifying Blaze’s power. But he has no record in the Awakened League at all.
"Please, guys. He’s my daughter’s friend.
Whatever he’s going to do, he isn’t going to harm me in front of her."
"But, sir!"
"Stays outside. If I need you, I will call you."
Marshall walks in the door. Blaze smiles to the bodyguards before closing the doors.
The two walk inside the living room, where Alyson and Kana are right now.
Alyson stands up immediately when she sees her father. Anxiety fills her expression.
"Father!"
"Don’t even give me a call for two long years. Who are you even a daughter of?"
"I..."
Alyson lowers her head, twisting her fingers like crazy.
"Hey! That’s not how you talked to your daughter! She’s just gone through a lot!"
Kana speaks up.
"Don’t interfere, woman. This does not concern you."
Marshall glances toward Kana.
"You are in my house, Marshall Aldrin. I don’t care who you are, but you will treat my mother and my friend with respect."
Blaze steps in the middle of them, eyes clashing with Marshall’s slit pupils.
"Don’t think you can talk to me like that, boy! Withstanding one strike of my mental power is not that impressive!"
Marshall steps forward, putting more pressure on Blaze.
Blaze’s expression relaxes. He calms himself first before uttering the next words.
"You may want to reconsider your attitude, mister. You don’t know me enough to take such a risk.
You don’t want to be my enemies. Marshal Aldrin.
Apologize to my mother, or I may have to show your daughter something she will never forgive me for."
Alyson grabs Blaze’s arms and tries to pull him back but is unable to move Blaze even an inch. He stands still like an immovable force.
The silence fills the rooms for quite a while. Everyone is getting ready for conflict to escalate.
"Fine."
Marshall takes a physical step back and also stands down mentally.
"I apologize, miss. It was my fault for being impolite."
Alyson’s eyes open wide. She has never heard her father admit defeat in anything before.
"I accept your apology, Mr. Aldrin."
Kana nods.
Blaze brings a chair forward for Marshall to sit down.
"Please sit. You can say what you want to say to Alyson."
"It’s better if she comes with me. It’s a private matter."
"That’s not for you to decide."
Blaze gestures toward Alyson.
"You want to come with him?"
Alyson shakes her head.
"See. She doesn’t want to come with you. Whatever you want to say. You can say it now."
Marshall’s expression goes absolutely still. His face turns cold.
"You may not want to hear this, boy."
Blaze shrugs and sits down on the couch. He pulls Alyson to sit beside him.
Marshall acts as if he sees nothing at all, his emotion is as empty as the Void.
"Fine. This city is too dangerous for you now, Alyson. Come with me to the capital."
"I don’t want to! I want to stay here with Blaze!"
Alyson stubbornly says.
Marshall takes another deep breath, trying his best to stay calm.
"You two can still be friends. Hell, I can even arrange choppers for him to meet you whenever you feel like it.
But you have to come to the capital. This is not a request."
Blaze crosses his legs and rests his jaw on his hand.
Kana crosses her arms, staring at Marshall silently.
Alyson avoids Marshall’s glance, but she tries her best to not show any fear in front of her father.
"What? Are you disobeying me now?"
"Say what you want to say, Mr. Aldrin. I know there is something you are hiding."
Blaze interrupts his speech.
Marshall squints his eyes. This boy is much smarter than he anticipates.
"There’s a family in the capital. One of our company’s long-term allies. They have a son. A son with an A-rank power. I have arranged for you to be his bride."
"What?! That’s nonsense! I am not marrying a stranger!"
Alyson shouts.
"Listen! I know you like this boy. But his family has nothing to offer our family.
You can still be friends with him. Even take him in as a lover if you like. But you have to marry into our ally family. It is the only way to secure our company."
"No way! I am not marrying anyone else besides Blaze. I won’t go to the capital with you either!"
"Listen, you little..."
Marshall’s tone turns aggressive.
Blaze holds up his hand, causing both of them to shut up.
"I like your daughter. And if things go well, I would like to ask for your blessing someday.
But what I want doesn’t matter. It is what Alyson wants to do with her life and who she wants to be with.
As you heard her, she is not willing to go with your plan.
You can go now."
"Boy... This is much bigger than you can think. The family I’m talking about is a big shareholder of Vox Entertainment.
It’s not just a marriage. If she won’t become their bride, they will become our family’s enemy. I cannot protect her.
And you won’t be able to either.
If you value your life. Your mother’s life. And Alyson’s.
I strongly advise you to step aside."
Blaze stands up, which causes Marshall to stand up as well.
Marshall just told him that his crush will be marrying someone else now. Who knows what the kid might do. Marshall is getting ready to fight Blaze.
"I am powerful, Mr. Aldrin."
Blaze simply says.
"I know that already from our little exchange."
"No. You still don’t understand.
I am extremely powerful. Much more powerful than you and any of your bodyguards out there.
I can easily wipe you all out."
Marshall smirks, obviously not believing anything Blaze is saying.
"But I would rather we don’t fight.
Simply because it will break Alyson’s heart."
Blaze’s stare changes. Marshall can feel it. It looks like Blaze is looking at a dead man.
Marshall is a great businessman. He built his wealth from nothing to a giant corporation as of now. It may not be as big as Vox or any of its subsidiaries, but it can survive in the capital.
That alone proves the company’s influence.
But at the end of the day, Marshall is still nothing more than a B-rank.
And Blaze has killed a lot of B-rank Awakeners.
Marshall can feel the temperature of the entire room cool down to an alarming rate.
This is not physical cold but only the pressure that Blaze is exerting.
The pressure of a serial killer.
Alyson grabs Blaze’s arm. She is worried that he might be angry and send her father one way to hell.
Blaze gestures to her, silently telling her that everything is alright.
"Your daughter was kidnapped. She was almost sold as merchandise.
And now, the first thing you do when you come here is to order her to marry someone else?
What kind of a father are you?"
Marshall sweats. He knows Blaze is correct. For all that he did for Alyson, he was not a good father.
"Your daughter is smart. She has an eye for men. If you truly love her, you should have let her be with the man she loves.
And I.
I can guarantee it to you. That a mere A-rank is not suitable for her."
Marshall lets out a laugh.
"You speak like you’re an S-rank or something."
"Who says I’m not?"
Blaze has Genesis Legion, it is an S-rank power. So he doesn’t lie.
Everyone falls into silence. They all are waiting for Marshall to make his choice.
Marshall lets out a long breath before saying, "Alright. I can keep the opposing family at bay for now.
But you have to promise me one thing."
"Tell me then."
"You have to enroll in the Academy and defeat her fiancé in a duel.
That way it can show that he is not worthy of her. That way she can officially be with you."
Blaze was expelled. He hasn’t even registered a power badge yet. Enrolling in the Academy will be hard but not impossible.
[New mission received: Defeat Alyson’s fiancé.]
"It’s a deal."
You know me too well, System...
Blaze nods. Graduating high school is only one way of entering the Academy. If he’s strong enough, every organization will welcome him.
Marshall steps forward and reaches out his hand.
"You better not disappoint me, Blaze Singer."
Blaze shakes his hand.
"I will never disappoint you, father-in-law."
