I Only Want To Kill-Chapter 127: The Bear’s Life
Blaze’s eyes glow yellow, and the mark of Soul Slave is engraved onto Norman’s soul.
Blaze trusts Sebastian’s judgment, but he can never be too sure. He can only trust what he sees for himself.
So without warning, Blaze grabs the head of Norman’s soul and looks into his memory.
His lifelong career and childhood show up in Blaze’s mind like a fast-forward movie.
Norman was raised by a single mother. His mother was a prostitute, so he had a very early experience with the dark underbelly of society. What was thought to be a throwaway life of little Reddington quickly got flipped over when he had to defend his mother against one of her clients.
That man did not survive, and the young Norman was sent to jail without any trial.
It seems harsh and cruel, but Blaze isn’t surprised. Norman did not have any power at the time and was considered trashy, the lowest of the low in Ranas’ society.
A trashy life is already bad. A trashy in prison is even worse. One can only imagine what would happen to Norman if he were only a normal person without any supernatural power.
But Norman prevailed. He awakened his first superpower in jail and slowly climbed up the ranks of the prisoners.
He got out of prison on his 18th birthday, and the first thing he did was look for his mother.
She died a horrific death. And the culprit was in the same gang as the man that Norman killed.
Without anything else beside his power, Norman found that gang, killed every single last one of them, and stayed at the bloody scene, waiting for the police to come and take him away.
This time, Norman did not get sent to jail. Instead, he was adopted by the current leader of the A-Force at that time.
That man brought Norman into the world of enforcers. The world of police, special agents, and soldiers. He turned Norman from the soon-to-be-executed murderer to the bright recruit that everyone looked up to. He knew that, apart from everyone else, Norman hated the criminals the most.
That thinking alone helped Norman go far in this line of work.
And he did. Norman enrolled in the Akansa City Police Department and quickly climbed the ranks. He became a detective in under a year.
His rank advanced to Sergeant and then Lieutenant, Captain.
He became the most feared police officer in Akansa City in under five years. His popularity at the time greatly exceeded Sebastian’s when he was in SID.
And then the inevitable happened. Norman Reddington became the Chief of Police, named Commissioner Reddington.
In his times, Akansa was the safest city in Ranas. All criminals ran away to find a better place to live. Because if they don’t, the only thing waiting for them is death.
It was also at this time that the ACPD gained a lot of power over the city. The trait that was passed down to Gulliver and what helped him take control over the city so easily.
Norman did not pass down the position to Adam Gulliver. He was forced out of the position by the mayor of the city.
Norman ’The Bear’ Reddington might excel in catching and killing the criminal, but he also made the Police Department a notorious organization. One that even ordinary citizens are afraid to talk about. The reach of the police was so far that everyone unanimously decided to kick Norman away for a more harmonious city.
Norman was a warlord, not a politician. He got played by the City Council and lost his position unwillingly. There were a lot of police who wanted him to fight back. But that would mean a civil war would happen right in the middle of this city.
So Norman chose to be a better man and walked away, avoiding further bloodshed. He was starting to get old, reaching his 50s. He was tired, and his body gave up long ago. It was the perfect time for Norman to retire.
Blaze smiles when he finishes seeing Norman’s life. This is the person that he needs right now to maintain order in Akansa City. Norman is the iron fist he wants to press down on all the criminals of this city.
Then he makes a new body for Norman. He needs a powerful and capable man to take over ACPD, so Norman needs to be young. Blaze takes the appearance Norman had in his 30s to make the new clone.
[Please name your new clone!]
"The Bear," Blaze says.
Purple energy pours out from Blaze’s cloak. A fresh new body slowly manifests in front of Blaze and Sebastian.
Sebastian hasn’t seen Blaze use this power yet, so he is very fascinated by what is happening. His eyes glue onto the slowly forming body of Norman.
"Wait... This is..." Sebastian mumbles.
Blaze pushes Norman’s body inside the new clone.
[Your Soul Slave Norman Reddington has taken control of your clone The Bear]
[Soul Genome of Norman Reddington has fused with The Bear]
[The Bear has gained Animalistic Fusion (B-rank)]
Norman has the same power as Alyson. This makes Blaze wonder if they have any genetic connections to each other. Blaze won’t be surprised if they are distant relatives with some unknown link from two or three generations ago.
Norman stands up slowly. He can feel the strength coursing through his veins and the fresh vitality of a young body.
He flexes his arms, the two biceps bulging like two little monsters growling at the onlooker.
"I know this feeling. This isn’t my body... This is my body from twenty years ago!"
"Consider it a gift," Blaze nonchalantly says.
"Ha ha ha! You’re alright, Wraith! What you want me to do, consider it is done also. I will go talk with that Gulliver brat and take care of everything."
"Only one last thing left."
Blaze opens up the Celestial Contract. The golden scroll rolls out.
"Our clauses will be very simple.
First clause: the signing party must abide by this contract or be punished by the Blood Oath.
Second clause: the signing party will take over the position of the Police Chief and maintain order in Akansa City.
Third clause: the signing party must try his best to make sure the ACPD does its job and does not cooperate with criminals.
Fourth clause: the signing party must help raise Dominic Renly as their successor for the Police Chief position.
Fifth clause: when Dominic Renly is ready, the signing party must give the Police Chief position to him.
Those are all the clauses. Any objection?"
"Not really. But I do have one question. Who is Dominic Renly?" Norman says.
"He is my partner." Sebastian answers. "Good kid. Has a good heart and is also very competent. We consider him to take Gulliver’s place, but he lacks experience."
"Ah. So that’s why you came to me."
"That’s correct. So what do you say?"
"I want to adjust the fifth clause and add, ’If Dominic Renly is unsuitable for the job, the signing party will find a replacement for Dominic Renly’s position in the contract.’
What do you guys think?"
"You think my partner won’t be a good choice?"
"I don’t know. The job may require much more out of a man than you actually think. You will have to make hard decisions many times. This can break a man.
Look. I know this kid is good, but it is another thing if he’s able to take on the challenge. That’s why I adjust the clause."
"No need to explain further. I heard enough." Blaze touches his finger onto the golden scroll, and the words on it dance around, changing into what Norman was suggesting. "It is a reasonable request. Not everybody is meant to lead."
"That’s what I’m worried about." Norman nods.
"Will you take this contract now?"
"Happy to sign!"
"Put your blood on it."
Norman bites into his finger. He presses it onto the Celestial Contract. A cloud of blood consumes him whole.
