I Only Want To Kill-Chapter 118: The Bear
Adam opens his eyes again, once again becoming conscious in this chaotic, ruthless reality. ๐ฏ๐ง๐ฎ๐ฎ๐๐ฎ๐๐ฃ๐๐๐๐ต.๐ฌ๐ธ๐
The last thing he remembers is the altar. His god, Cerun-Kha, the god that helped him claw his way upon the greasy pole of Ranas politics, has spoken directly to him. He accepted his plea for help, and he promised to destroy his enemy, the Wraith.
The god of fissures and opportunity did not ask much in exchange for his assistance. What he wanted was the corpse of the Wraith and everything it had on.
Then, a golden light enveloped Adam, and he didnโt know what happened next.
Now, he can see that he has returned to his office. In front of him are the notorious Wraith and Psychotic Detective. The two figures that heโs afraid of the most. The only people that can ruin him.
Adam shivers. Heโs here, and theyโre alive. This can only mean one thing. His god, Cerun-Kha, has failed.
Adamโs lips tremble.
"What did you do to my God?"
"I sent him back to where he came from," Blaze says.
Blazeโs appearance is otherworldly, but Adam didnโt mind it that much before. But now, after thinking that his god may have been defeated by him, Adam finally sees the true extent of Blazeโs unnatural exterior.
The dark cloak covers him whole, even his feet are invisible to the eyes. Only the fabric of the cloak is whirling around and spread out on the ground, it seems like Blaze is hovering instead of standing.
His face is white, porcelain white. Adam thinks that it may be a mask, but with a closer look, he can see that it is Blazeโs actual face. Blazeโs eyes are golden and glowing. Primordial patterns run across his face and cloak.
From Adamโs point of view, Blaze looks exactly like a god. A god of darkness and murder. Or perhaps, more precisely, a demon of hell.
Adam lowers his head, slamming his forehead on the ground.
"Old lord! Please forgive my ignorance and stupidity! I did not intend to offend or disturb you! I didnโt know you were one of the old lords!"
Adam slams his head repeatedly without hesitation. Blood splats out and paints the ground red.
"Enough. That is a new body I granted you. Do not damage it."
Wraith lifts his finger, and Adam freezes in place. His body is Blazeโs Clone, he has total control over it.
Adam canโt believe what he just heard and is more inclined to his assumption. No mere mortal can create a body and resurrect him like that.
"You are my slave now. From now on, you serve me. Understood?"
"Yes, master!"
Sebastian grabs a handkerchief in the room and throws it over to Adam.
"Wipe your forehead. Blood is everywhere."
"Ah. Okay."
Blazeโs ears twitch, he hears police sirens from afar. Through the window, he can see that many police cars are blazing to this location. There are even military convoys and armored trucks.
"Cavalry here," Sebastian says. "A little too late."
Blaze ignores the outside and turns back to Adam.
"Iโm going to let you continue as the Police Chief for now. Do everything as you usually do. But do it right. If I find out you cooperate with the criminals again, death will only be a wishful thought to you."
"I... Iโll understand, master."
"And you, Sebastian Herrera. I need a better person to take the position of Commissioner. Mister Police Chief here is corrupt to the core, and keeping him in this position will only degrade the department even more.
Are you sure you wonโt be accepting this position?"
Sebastian lets out a long sigh.
"Look. I know your intention. Iโll understand you need someone to take over.
But I am not it. I am a drunkard and a fool. If you want someone to hold the helm of Akansa City Police Department, you need someone stable with a mind of steel that can deal with the police and the chaos outside.
I am a hardened cop, but I am in no way stable. You wouldnโt want to see the police get worse than it already is, do you?"
Blaze nods along with Sebastianโs words.
"You make perfect sense, actually. Well, if thatโs the case, I will just find somebody else to fill the role."
"If I may suggest, Wraith."
"Yes? Go on."
"My partner Renly is perfect for the job. He is sharp, well-spoken, and knows how to deal with people.
His talents were restrained because of the corruption here. But a good Police Force may be just the thing he needs to shine."
"That is true. But Dominic is too young. People may object to him and cause even more chaos."
Sebastian rubs his jaw, trying to think of a solution.
Adam raises his hand like a scared student.
"I have an idea."
"Tell us then," Blaze says.
"I can continue to be the Police Chief, on paper, of course. And I can help Dominic to slowly gain power and influence inside the Force.
When heโs ready, I can pass the position on to him."
"That is actually a very good idea. What do you think, Wraith?"
Blaze shakes his head. "No. The Police Chief position needs to change as soon as possible. If heโs staying, the Police Department will always have a bad name."
The truth is Blaze wants to kick Adam off to finish his mission. The previous reason is simply an excuse.
"How about Reddington?" Sebastian looks at Adam.
"The Bear? I donโt think he even takes guests now."
Adam looks visibly worried and frightened. It is as if that last name evokes some past trauma for him.
"Whoโs Reddington?" Blaze interrupts the two.
"The previous Police Chief. Norman Reddington. His reign as the Commissioner was long and notoriously famous. Everyone is afraid of him, but everyone respects him.
He punished the cops under his reign much more than any previous Police Chief. The ACPD was the purest in his time."
Sebastian continues.
"That sounds like the man I need. Can you arrange a meeting for us?"
"I tried my best. I still have some connections left from my time in the SID."
"Good."
Then Blaze turns toward Adam.
"You can tell the people exactly what has happened here today. But remember not to expose that you are my slave or that you were resurrected. Got it?"
"I understand, master!"
"Good. Now, one last thing before I go."
Blaze grabs Adamโs head and searches inside his soul.
