I Only Want To Kill-Chapter 102: Blaze vs. Zach (2)
"On guard, Deputy!"
Blaze holds the Moonlight Karambit tightly, his fingers fitting tightly onto the engravings of the handle.
He raises his hands up, copying the stance of those boxers he always sees on the TV.
However, instead of putting his left hand forward, Blaze extends his right hand. The hand that is holding the Karambit.
Blaze has no training before, so he can only make do with whatever little knowledge he has about fighting.
His stance is crude and ugly, which draws out a laugh from Zach.
"What is this? Don’t tell me you have never fought before."
Blaze fought. He has fought many battles.
But those weren’t actual battles. He always had the upper hand. A higher-ranking power. A more overpowered item. An advantageous aspect.
Since the beginning, when Blaze was lost in the Void. He made use of the darkness to ambush the enemy. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
Everything else was taken care of by his powers and items.
For skill, Blaze has little of.
And it seems like the System also acknowledges this.
[SKILL]
- Hand-to-hand Combat: 17
- Karambit Expertise: 5
- Ranged Combat: 23
- Power Manipulation: 46
The Skill tab that was unlocked when Blaze encountered the Spell Books.
He didn’t have time to take a good look at it. But now that Zach brings it up, Blaze finally decides to check it out.
Zach is right for looking down on Blaze.
The notorious Wraith is actually a noob in battle.
If it weren’t for the powers and items, Blaze has nothing special.
However, he does not feel even a little bit discouraged.
He still has time to improve. What matters now is killing Zach.
Zach’s armor makes him a threat, enhancing all his physical attributes. But that doesn’t mean that Blaze can’t exploit anything.
Zach no longer has the special helmet those cops have. The ones that allow them to see in the dark. Blaze turns the Karambit over. From it, a sphere of darkness envelops the yard.
Zach steps back immediately. His figure turns into a white blur to escape the darkness.
Blaze’s plan is solid. The only thing wrong with it is execution. No enemies will allow them to fall into a trap.
If the terrain is unfavorable toward Zach, he has no reason to conduct battle with Blaze.
After all, his goal right now is not killing this uninvited visitor. He just needs to buy time.
Blaze already anticipates this.
Rotted arms burst out from Zach’s shadow, reaching out to grab him.
They are too slow for him. Zach does a 360-degree spin with his spear swinging.
The tip of the spear draws a circular fang that decimates all the arms that just appear.
Darkness charges forward, aiming to swallow Zach whole. He turns his back and becomes a white blur.
Nothing stops him from running away.
Nothing except Blaze.
A black shadow emerges behind Zach. Blaze has sneakily used Shadow Form so that Zach won’t notice him.
He turns back into his physical form and immediately activates Lightning Ascension.
A yellow aura exudes out from Blaze, and he kicks Zach into the sphere of darkness.
Zach holds out his spear to block Blaze’s kick.
His enormous strength pushes Zach, dragging him into darkness.
"You sly fuck!"
Inside the shadow is Blaze’s home ground. He may not be as durable as Zach, but now he has the advantages of vision and speed.
Blaze wastes no time to get close and personal with Zach, beginning to exchange blows with him.
He fuses with the darkness so the only thing Zach can feel is the wind moving due to the slashes of the Karambit.
An invisible and quick enemy. The hardest to deal with of all.
Zach knows this, so he does not want to prolong the battle inside the sphere. He does a wide, swift slash with the tip of the spear toward Blaze.
The white fang extends from the crystal and cuts through the air.
Zach hopes to buy enough time to get out of this darkness.
Blaze knows this all too well. He uses his insane speed to get out of the fang radius and runs over to the other side.
The side that Zach is trying to run away from.
Blaze slices the Karambit on his shoulder. The red blade cut through the golden metal, leaving a deep hole in the armor.
A thick, concentrated golden liquid pours out from the armor and begins to flow upward to the sky.
Zach swings his spear over, intending to counterattack Blaze.
He avoids the strike easily and begins to dash around Zach, looking for weaknesses.
Blaze can’t hold his Lightning Ascension for too long. He needs to finish Zach before that happens.
Zach won’t allow another chance for this to happen.
Zach also knows that he needs to get out of this sphere as soon as possible. The longer he is inside, the higher the chance Blaze is able to kill him.
Blaze runs around Zach and creates a vortex of yellow lightning bolts. His image becomes visible again and divides into three exact figures.
Zach thinks he is going crazy due to the darkness, but no, three different Wraiths run at him at the same time.
Zach tightens the grip on his spear and does another 360-degree spin. The white fang is drawn into the air and slashes in every direction.
All three Wraiths disappear from existence, turning back into nothingness.
Before Zach can comprehend what just happened, a dark shadow emerges right behind him.
Blaze’s hand reaches out from the ground and slices into Zach’s ankles.
Blaze pours all his strength into this strike, and it has rewarded him. The red blade penetrates the golden armor and cuts into the flesh.
Blood spat out from inside the armor.
Zach screams out in pain. He turns back and shoves the spear down the ground.
Blaze jumps off, removing himself from the Shadow Form power.
The spear was so close that it sliced onto the hood of his Tattered Cloak. A few more centimeters and it may have hit Blaze.
Zach cannot let Blaze get out unharmed. He wills the crystal to illuminate, and the spear shoots out a white laser.
Blaze is extremely close, so this is the best possible chance for him to be hit.
Unfortunately for Zach, their speed is not on the same level.
One thunderous roar later, Blaze disappears from his position, leaving nothing but a lightning bolt.
Zach steps forward, but his legs wobble. The pain coming from his ankle has neutralized his speed to a great extent.
Blaze exploits this moment of weakness immediately and rushes at Zach. His Karambit shoves right into Zach’s vulnerable throat. The only part that is not covered by the armor.
Zach reacts swiftly, slamming the spear right in front to create a shockwave to push Blaze back.
Unfortunately, that is also a decoy. The shadow figure in front disappears as it is only an illusion.
The real Blaze appears behind Zach, shoving the knife into the back of his head.
If Zach isn’t injured and he has full vision, he might have been able to parry this strike.
But all the odds are stacked against him. Zach pulls himself forward by using the spear as an anchor, evading just in time to get out of the death zone.
The Karambit, however, is still able to slash on his back, carving out a huge chunk of the armor.
Zach swings himself on the spear, using it as a pole, and kicks Blaze on his way back.
The two collide, and Blaze is able to block the double kick with his forearms. Zach’s ankles crush on themselves, he can hear a small snapping sound inside them bones.
Blood spurts out even more around his feet.
Zach is able to get his balance again and stands on his two feet. But his base is extremely fragile now.
His two legs do their best to stay still, shaking from time to time.
"That hurts!"
Zach grits his teeth due to the pain. He has to give it to Blaze. The Wraith is an amateur at fighting, but his planning and opportunity attacks are superb.
Always knows how to exploit his enemy and create advantages.
"This is going to be harder than I thought."
Zach takes out another orange stone from his pocket.
Blaze won’t allow that to happen. Whatever Zach is trying to do, he must stop it at all costs.
With the little breath left in his lungs, Blaze dashes forward, slashing a perfect horizontal cut at Zach.
This strike is so mechanically sublime that even Blaze is surprised at himself.
The more he fights in the Lightning Ascension state, the better and more experienced he becomes.
That is a usual thing to have. You have to become better at something you do repeatedly.
The odd thing here is the mere speed that Blaze is improving. His mind and body are one, emphasizing the growth he has.
[Hand-to-hand Combat +1]
[Karambit Expertise +1]
This is obviously thanks to the Sub Power Zero Mind of Lightning Ascension.
However, Blaze is already too late. A sphere of light covers Zach again. The Karambit grinds on the golden energy but is unable to penetrate it.
