Chapter 48: Soul Devourer

---

[Spirit (Elder Water Drake) has been renamed to (Zydrax)]

[Zydrax has gained his Rank: Knight]

---

The spikes made of blue energy on the back of Zydrax’s neck frilled with excitement as he let out a guttural growl.

"What are the different ranks in my army?"

---

[Here are the current Spirit Rankings]

>[Footman: Healing Bug]

>[Knight: Zydrax]

>[Captain: --]

>[High Lieutenant: --]

>[Marshal: --]

---

’Hmm...’ Sin found this concept quite interesting. It seemed the system had prepared an army with a ranking system and possibly even more commodities that he was still clueless about.

’Tell me everything about this new power I have. Every single thing I can do with it, and every new thing that it has added to my arsenal.’

[Unique Trait Spirit Devourer works in a symbiotic system]

[Once a Spirit is devoured, it is converted into the host’s Spirit through soul fusing]

[All devoured Spirits are now fused with your Spirit, similar to normal Spirits]

[Devoured Spirits, however, share EXP with the host. You also share EXP with them]

[The bond is unbreakable until death, but this does not change a Spirit’s nature]

[The personality of a living creature is one thing. Its something that does not carry over to the soul. However, a creature’s nature will forever remain the same]

[A beast born to be a leader will be a leader even in its Spirit form]

[Like this, different Spirits maintain different personalities]

[There are further details that are even more intrinsic or complicated. Would you like to know about them aswell?]

[Yes or No]

"Yes."

...

The system spent a few more minutes filling Sin in on his new power. After understanding everything, Sin decided it was time to begin moving.

He sighed, walking over to Zydrax. He placed his hand on the side of the beast’s head, patting it.

"I need a new damn foot... I know there are advanced healing techniques that can even bring back lost limbs, but I was in a dire state where Healing Bug had no other choice, so now its permanently like this..."

Sin looked down at his stump of a leg. It didn’t hurt, but it felt extremely uncomfortable to walk on.

Zydrax lowered his head, his body language showing sympathy.

Sin noticed this and smiled. "But..." He paused, hopping on Zydrax’s back, "That’s not a big deal. Whats more important is how I’m going to hunt down every single one of those bastards."

Sin understood that he and Zydrax were Spirit-Bonded so he simply imagined the beast to move forward and it did what Sin wanted without any delay or hesitation--like another limb of his own body.

Zydrax flew into the air--smashing through the ceiling and disappearing into the dungeon.

*One week later*

Sin sprinted through the jungle full speed. Jumping over fallen logs and large boulders, his foot placement perfected to a tee.

After continuously running for over ten minutes, he arrived to a mountainside wall.

Before him was the dungeon entrance. It was a bit destroyed, but that was his own fault since he had ridden Zydrax while exiting the dungeon.

The big drake’s body smashed against the walls, leaving a bit of unnatural debris.

He walked over to a tree and sat down. Pulling up his left pant leg, he took a look at his new left foot.

It was made out of multiple moving wooden pieces and carefully created to mimic the different movements of the foot.

He had spent the past week curating a new foot for himself, along with trying to get accustomed to moving with it.

His newest model was one that he was finally satisfied with.

After many days of trial and error, he discovered that he needed a socket, which was more important than anything else.

Along with that, he created the foot to be the perfect shape for balance.

’It’s not the same as before. Hell, it’s only good until I leave this forest. After I get back into civilization, I’ll need to figure out how to get some sort of bionic or mechanical foot.’

He had these plans for the future, but for now, he was okay with this temporary fix.

He stood up, "System, open my status panel."

He took a good look at his stats. He had gained two levels over this past week, which was quite surprising.

He had used Zydrax to kill a few fairly large beasts like Steel-Fanged Wolves for protection and Wholly Boar’s for food.

Zydrax’s strength was monstrouis, like a motorized machine going up against a bicycle. He didn’t even need to use any Spirit attacks--only a single swipe with its tail was enough to slay the beasts.

Through their EXP share, Sin had gained levels without doing anything.

’If I actually tried to power level here, I imagine I could get a level every two days even. But that progress will probably quickly slow down.’

He had put his stat points mostly into strength, a bit into durability, and also one into his Spirit Energy stat.

’I don’t really know how the stat works, but if I were to guess, it will most likely allow my Spirit to be stronger or used for longer. Whatever it is, I want to make my Spirit stat higher now.’

A smile couldn’t help but creep onto his face, ’Spirit Devourer... it’s a monstrous ability. I’ll make sure to use it to its maximum capacity.’ 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

[Spirits Devoured: 2/3]

’Since Healing Bug counts as one, I got one left.’ Sin turned, walking back into the dungeon.

’Whats the point in waiting? I’ll fill out the slots as soon as I can. Its the Infinite Spirit Energy System, right? That means I can collect many more in the future...’

He had multiple ideas of what to get. One of the king’s guards was his first thought, but he wasn’t going to make a decision too hastily.

He then thought about getting Roby’s Spirit. The fatass was only a human, but he was clearly strong.

He beat The’res fair and square, so he was at least more powerful than one of the king’s guards.

But he was a human. Sin didn’t mind collecting the Spirit of a human if it meant gaining him more power. Still... it wasn’t going to be his first option.

He also thought about trying to discover more Water Drakes.

Since he had the Draco Gauntlets, the drake Spirit happened to boost his stats even better. So, why not go the reptilian route?

But then again, the drake he had was an Elder, and a king on top of that.

’The other soldier drakes--if they are even alive--are probably far weaker.’

After a while, he arrived back at the circular arena room where he had slain the first King’s Guard--the swordsman.

Without any hesitation, he began walking towards the King’s Tomb.
