I Can Tame Everything!-Chapter 22: Flame Roc: A New Companion!
Chapter 22 - Flame Roc: A New Companion!
[Tame {Flame Roc} - Y/N]
Yes, Rex immediately agreed to tame it, muttering, "Not interested," while showing his lack of enthusiasm toward the merchant.
After showcasing three more beasts, the merchant said,
"That is all we have, young master. We believe in quality rather than quantity. Now, which one will you choose, or are you perhaps like those poor people who only come here to ask questions and gaze upon our exquisite beasts? Ahem... I'm certain you're not like them," the merchant remarked, slyly covering the taunt.
Rex's eyes twitched. Despite talking big, the merchant was a good salesman, Rex admitted and pretended to ponder for a few moments before mumbling, "Hmmm... I've decided, I'll take that weak-looking bird over there," pointing at the Flame Roc.
Darius tugged at his clothes with a questioning expression, and Rex signaled for him to calm down.
"Oh, an excellent choice, sir!" the merchant mused. as they walked toward the beast, He shamelessly began singing its praises, making up stories. "...Only for you, young sir, it's 10,000 Gold coins."
Rex scoffed, glaring at the price.
"Haha, 10,000 gold for a half-fed beast?" he said. "Even if I sell myself, I can't afford 10,000 gold coins."
The merchant became speechless, his smile faltering. "I... uh... It's a ranked beast with a great bloodline, so 9,000 gold is the last price."
Should I agree? I doubt I'll return that money.
"Fine, I'll agree, but I need a loan with an extended period of time to pay it back," Rex said, leaning back slightly.
The merchant grinned upon hearing his words. "Of course, sir, we can extend it as long as you want," he assured, swiftly pulling out the papers. "Here, sign this, please."
Rex signed the papers, his gaze still sharp. "By the way, what bloodline does the beast have?"
The merchant hesitated, stuttering for a moment. "Uhh... umm..." He fumbled through his papers before pulling out a log. "It's a Volcanic Bloodline... Yes, that's right."
Rex looked at him and thought, Just because you made up a story about finding it in a volcano, it suddenly has a Volcanic Bloodline? He almost spoke the words out loud, but held back, shaking his head inwardly as he handed the papers back.
"Also, young man," the merchant's tone shifted slightly, "we have a strict no-return policy, so..."
Yeah, I expected as much. Rex nodded, forcing a smile.
The merchant opened the cage and handed him the Flame Roc. "Here's your Volcanic Bloodline beast," he said, with a smirk.
Then, as if offering a piece of wisdom, he added, "Since you want to become an appraiser, try your luck at the Goldhammer Auction House. They're always looking for great appraisers with good accuracy... Such as yourself." He grinned, clearly amused by Rex's foolishness.

"Thank... you for the Auction hall's information," Rex said to the merchant, pausing as his focus shifted to the major changes in the system.
The merchant noticed his unfocused eyes but didn't bother prying; his business was already done, so he promptly left.
{From now on, you're safe!}

"Chiiirp?" It peered up at him with wary eyes...
Rex watched the two beasts interact, a faint smile playing on his lips.
This should make things easier.
"What happened, Rex?" Darius asked, sensing something strange.
"Nothing. Can you lead the way?" Rex replied, only now carefully reading through the system changes.
With a nod, Darius took the lead as they made their way toward the Goldhammer Auction House, seeking an appraiser job with Rex's newly acquired beast.
They eventually found themselves inside the auction house. The interior was massive, far grander than any building Rex had seen so far.
Rex quickly approached the counter and asked the receptionist while holding his Flame Roc like a child, "Hello, can I apply for a beast appraiser job?"
With a scrutinizing gaze, she said, "Yes, sir. Could you please tell me where you've worked before?"
Rex nodded and said, "I haven't worked anywhere before, but I have 100% accuracy in appraising beasts," he declared confidently, hoping to be given a chance to prove his skills.
"Another imbecile," she muttered under her breath, sighing in frustration before speaking.
"Hah...I take it you bought that beast from the beast market, thinking bloodline beasts were cheap, you fell for their scam 'as an appraiser' as you claim to be and now you think you're fit to work here 'as an appraiser'?" She shook her head with a soft chuckle.
Yet, quickly restraining herself, she maintained her professionalism. "I'm sorry, sir, but we don't hire... nobodies. We only recruit those with fame and experience. You can leave if you're not buying anything... sir," she added, with a mocking tone.
"But... you can test me, you know?" Rex insisted, hoping to prove himself.
"Hey, young man, listen when I'm telling you nicely—get out of here!" she scoffed.
Instead of arguing, Rex's gaze hardened with resolve as he turned to leave the auction house.
After taking a few steps, he declared boldly, "If they won't recruit me, I'll open my own stall and build my reputation first!"
"Hmph," the woman snorted at his childish claim.
They both heard it, but Darius pressed on. "Can you even appraise a beast's bloodline?" he asked, shifting Rex's attention.
"Yes, don't worry about that. I can appraise beasts up to Spirit Rank, and I doubt there are any beasts stronger than that in the city," Rex claimed, having already checked most of the citizen's status.
"If that's true, then I'll help you with everything I can," Darius said as they both stepped out of the auction house.
Rex looked around the crowded market. "Thanks, Darius. Let's start by finding a place for our stall," he replied.
After searching for 20 minutes, they finally found a good spot for their stall.
"There," Rex pointed, a faint smirk tugging at his lips as he asked Darius for his opinion. "What do you think?"
"Yes, that seems like a nice place," Darius agreed with an approving nod.
The spot Rex pointed to was beside a beast shop selling parts like claws, fangs, and hides.
Rex and Darius smiled as they walked toward the shop and approached the shopkeeper.
"What are you looking to buy, sir?" the shopkeeper asked politely.
Rex ignored the question and asked directly, "Um... do we need a license or something to sell things here?"
"Yes," the man answered abruptly.
Their smiles faltered after hearing the shopkeeper's reply.
"What are you selling? I warn you if you're opening another beast parts shop here—" the shopkeeper cautioned.
"Oh no, no! I'm a beast appraiser, so I just need a place to appraise beasts," Rex quickly explained.
The shopkeeper, a burly man, narrowed his eyes in amusement. Then, with a small smile, he bantered,
"A beast appraiser?... You're a funny one, aren't you?"
"You don't need any license. You can just stand there in one spot," the burly man pointed, "and your stall is ready. Hahaha," laughing lightly, finding it amusing.
Rex blinked, a smile spreading across his face.
"Let's go, Rex! Our first stall!" Darius exclaimed joyfully.
They both went toward the indicated spot and took out the advertisement paper they had found while searching for the location. They had also borrowed some ink to write on it.
Sitting on the floor, they unfolded the paper, which read in bold letters for easy reading:
"Beast Appraising – Only 20 Silvers! 100% Accuracy!"
