I Can Tame Everything!-Chapter 10: Devour! II
Chapter 10 - Devour! II
Rex's brows knitted together. "No way... Is this really what I think it is?" a disbelieving grin creeping onto his face.
"Yes! Devour the wolf!" he exclaimed, his eyes gleaming with excitement as a small, glowing orb materialized beside the beast's lifeless body.
ROAR
Just as he reached for the glowing orb, a furious roar snapped his attention. Turning his head, he saw the ranked beast rushing toward the fallen wolf's body.
Rex tensed and swiftly snatched the golden orb. Moving away from the corpse, he quickly commanded the remaining wolf to stand guard between him and the ranked wolf.
Soon after, the mother beast reached her slain pup, her eyes flickering with confusion.
System, tame the ranked wolf beast.

Without hesitation, he swiftly attempted to tame the ranked wolf—now that the darker wolf was gone, a slot had opened.
System, how do I use this glow—

As he considered using the orb, it suddenly lit up and there was... nothing in his hands, like a skill book as he had imagined.
Instead, mana surged from the orb, flowing directly into him. As more poured into his body, a tiny core—no larger than a grain—began to form just above his solar plexus.
He felt stronger, his body pulsing with energy, rejuvenating him—like stepping out of a refreshing bath, all the built-up exhaustion washing away as if it had never existed.
Rex had kept a wary eye on the beast, and the moment she moved—her steps were slow, calculated as if reigning in her fury.
"Shit!" His body tensed.
He lunged at the lighter wolf standing just three steps away. Gripping his dagger tightly, he pressed it against the beast's neck.
The beast froze in its tracks.
GRRR...

"I know you can understand me," Rex said, his voice unsteady. "If you take a single step, I... I'll kill your child." He tightened his grip on the wolf, using the beast as a hostage, he had no other choice.
Hell, without the system, he would've died a dog's death long ago.
GROWL...
I have to get out of here quickly. The fiery jaguar has already killed the lightning bird, and it might be looking for its child, Rex grimaced.
Think, Rex, think! How do I kill this ranked beast? He pressed his lips together.
Rex crouched still while holding the hostage, locked in a tense stalemate with the beast.
Rex was not strong enough to kill the ranked beast. And, The wolf cannot act with its child in danger.
The ranked beast seethed with rage. For losing her child—right in front of her—by her own hand no less. She couldn't afford to lose another.
As the moments dragged on, Rex grew tense, feeling the pressure weighing down on him as the beast stood there, glaring at him with hatred.
Protect me at all costs, he commanded the lighter wolf, finally deciding to act.
I don't care if what I'm doing is cowardly or anything. What matters is my life, and I'm not losing it a second time.
He met the ranked beast's gaze and smirked, his eyes filled with provocation.
Grrr....
Then, Rex swung his right hand wide in an exaggerated motion, the dagger gleaming as it caught the beast's full attention. Meanwhile... his left hand stealthily collected a handful of dirt.
Rex focused on the beast's gaze, making sure it didn't notice his left hand.
The ranked beast fixated on the dagger—what Rex wanted her to see—believing he was about to kill its child. She roared in anger, lunging forward, falling right into his trap.
Rex didn't hesitate—he hurled the dirt straight into the beast's eyes.
Momentarily blinding her, he seized the opportunity and with a burst of speed, he moved to the perfect angle behind her.
A cold gleam flickered in Rex's eyes as he tightened his grip on the dagger.
As the dust slowly began to settle, he swiftly struck the beast's neck with all his strength. Yet, the dagger barely sank in, leaving only a shallow gash. She instantly sensed him and flinched.
He staggered back a step and lost his balance, falling onto his butt, his hands pressing against the ground for support.
This time, a cold gleam of fury flashed in the wolf's eyes. She lunged, jaws wide, ready to crush his skull in a single bite.
When...
The lighter beast jumped in between them, her jaws clamped down on the lighter wolf instead, a pained yelp left, as its eyes began to dull.
Rex sucked in a sharp breath as realization struck him, his brows shooting up. This was his chance. Gripping his dagger, which had nearly slipped from his grasp, he drove it into the ranked beast's throat—then yanked it out, only to plunge it back in with even greater force.
Fear driving his movements, desperate to make sure the beast was truly dead.
Ghhrrr...
A choked snarl escaped her as she collapsed onto the ground, her weight hitting with a heavy thud.

He felt relieved as the 'Taming Failed' message appeared.
Silence.
All three beasts lay dead.
Rex collapsed onto the ground, his heart pounding rapidly.
Warm blood from both beasts seeped into the ground, slowly reaching him, its sticky heat clinging to his bare skin.
Yes, Rex agreed, closing his eyes for a moment, savoring the silence.
A similar golden orb formed beside the light-gray wolf. Bracing himself on his knees, he pushed up, grabbed the orb, and crushed it.
The same refreshing mana surged into him. He then glanced down at the crimson blood, scooped some up, and smeared it onto his arms.
Hope this distracts the Fiery Jaguar if it's on my trail. And also... I need to leave this place quickly.
With that thought, he set off toward home.
