Chapter 233: Search and Capture

Miguel and the two women returned to the villa a few minutes later.

It was still around eight in the evening when they arrived home.

Miguel planned to check the situation in the north tonight. This would avoid suspicion as ’Elder Journey’ usually returns home after finishing dinner at Maras Tavern. No one would suspect him to go to the north during this hour at all.

For this matter, he could not go as Elder Journey or Miguel. The mastermind was still lurking in the dark after all.

Fortunately, he now has another means to disguise himself.

The [Formation Inscriptor] has a lot of applications.

One of which was to change his appearance slightly.

Miguel made a slight wound on the tip of his finger to draw out blood. Using his own blood as the main material, Miguel drew a mysterious pattern on his face.

The mysterious blood pattern suddenly coagulated and formed into a huge array that lit up with red light. The red light intensified and immediately transformed his face into another form.

Looking in the mirror, he looked very ordinary, normal, and weak.

His cheek was deep and it looked like he did not eat for a month already.

His hair was disheveled, and looked rough and dirty. It looked like he did not take a bath for at least a week.

Miguel nodded his head in satisfaction.

’This face looks easy to beat. It also looks like a face that is always asking for a beating,’ he thought to himself.

This face was very suitable for his operation of wanting to get into trouble.

A perfect bait!

Even Aaliyah and Edith felt a little repulsed seeing his face. If they did not know that this was Miguel beforehand, they would have thought that it was a thief and would attack him on the spot.

This was only a minor and one of the many applications of the [Formation Inscriptor] skill.

As it only changed the structure of his face, it did not take much energy and effort to create this particular inscription.

After he was done with his preparation, he unsummoned Aaliyah and Edith and prepared to go to the north alone.

This time, to further make his act convincing, he planned to pose a strong and wandering Martial Artist.

The Blazing City doesn’t have any census. As long as one could pay the fee at the entrance, anyone could enter the city and live here peacefully.

Miguel was not worried that his identity would be questioned. There were a lot of new people in Blazing City everyday.

As he wanted to still earn some experience points, he kept the grimoire in the state of being summoned and just let it stay hidden.

This consumes energy, but fortunately, Miguel doesn’t have to worry about something trivial like that.

Miguel did not waste any more time and finally arrived at where the Mercenary Guild was located.

The Mercenary Guild was a free and unrestricted organization.

There were no member fees if one wanted to become a mercenary. In fact, one doesn’t have to register at all.

Only when one formed a mercenary group would they need to inform and register in the guild.

When Miguel arrived at the Mercenary Guild, it was already slightly past nine.

Even though it was already this late in the evening, the Mercenary Guild was still full of people and was still bustling with activity.

Looking around, Miguel could feel some auras that did not pale in comparison to the elders of the Red Family.

There was a reason why they could stand their ground and remain unbothered by the local government.

The Mercenary Guild was indeed a place where the strong and free-willed individuals gathered the most. In fact, even some powerful elders of well-known families were also mercenaries.

Miguel walked forward without garnering any attention from the crowd.

Even though his face was akin to a man asking for a beating, the mercenaries around did not bother him as they did their own thing.

The Mercenary Guild was a big establishment.

With a quick glance, Miguel realized that it could even hold upto 500 people without being cramped.

The Mercenary Guild only consists of two floors. The ground level and the upper level.

The upper level was where the upper echelons of the Mercenary Guild usually gathered, while the ground level was where the mercenaries transact and find suitable missions.

In the center of the ground level was where most of the mercenaries could be seen.

Before them was a huge board that was surrounded by the mass of mercenaries.

According to Maras, this was the mission board where mercenaries would see and search for a suitable mission to be accepted.

The employers would come and issue a request to the guild and the guild would then issue and post the mission details in the mission board.

If a mercenary fancied a mission, they could just take the posted details and bring it to the line of receptionists located at the far end of the ground level.

The receptionists would then evaluate if they possess the necessary strength and ability to complete the mission. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

The Mercenary Guild was not a charity organization. It doesn’t care about the life and death of the mercenaries. For them, the completion of the mission was more important.

Of course, when a mercenary completes a couple of missions, they would be noticed by the receptionists and would be remembered.

Their performance would then be referenced for future missions that they wish to accept, which will lead them to be able to accept hard and high level missions.

This was also the reason why there was no need to register in the Mercenary Guild.

As life and death was always an occurrence, they would only pay attention to mercenaries who did outstanding job from their previous missions.

After scanning for a while, Miguel finally found the mission that he was looking for.

It was written clearly on brown parchment paper. It was located at the newest missions or quest and it was around it that most of the mercenaries gathered.

[Mission: Searching and Capturing An Elusive Beast

Client: Cedric Ironheart

Objective: Capture the elusive beast.

Details: A beast of unknown origin appeared during Sir Cedric Ironheart’s daily walk in the Northern Crest Woods. Sir Cedric Ironheart desires this rare looking creature to get contracted by him and he’s willing to pay a handsome reward of 2000 Gold Coins if it’s captured alive.

According to Sir Cedric Ironheart and some witnesses, the beast looked like an oversized mouse but it was extremely black in color. It has blue spots around its neck.

Location:

Northern Crest Woods

Requirements: None (If you don’t have the ability to capture the beasts but have found traces of it, you can still report it to the Mercenary Guild and will still be rewarded with half of the promised reward.

Risks: Little to None. But could change at any moment depending on the grade of the said beast.

Reward: 2000 Gold Coins upon successfully delivering the correct beast alive to Sir Cedric Ironheart.

Additional Notes: The capture must be humane, ensuring the beast’s well-being during transportation.

This mission could be accepted by many people. You can simply go to the receptionist and tell them to write your name as one of the participants of the operation. Who knows if Sir Cedric Ironheart would suddenly reward the participants.]

Miguel nodded his head and thought that it was very detailed.

As this was only a search and capture mission, it didn’t have that much of requirement and restrictions, so even him, a newbie mercenary, would be able to accept it without any problem.

The risk were also included in the details so those who think that they could complete the mission could simply go to the receptionist and write their name on the list.

Miguel went to the receptionist table and reported what kind of mission he wanted to take.

The receptionist lady looked at him with a slight grunt, thinking that his face was quite repulsive to look at, before she told him to write his name on the parchment that she handed over.

Miguel took the pen and realized that there were already over a hundred names listed on this parchment alone. And this was only from the receptionists. He noticed that most of the receptionists also had similar parchment on their desks.

Ignoring the receptionist lady’s reaction, Miguel took the quill and wrote his name in a messy manner.

Sid!

It was a simple name, befitting of his simple image and look. It was only one syllable and if anyone asked, he could just reply simply, with a quick word.

"Alright. You can now go and search for that beast. If you capture it alive, you can just report it to the Guild and we will handle the transportation to Sir Cedric Ironheart himself," the receptionist lady stated before ignoring him completely.

Looking at his weak and ordinary face, the lady did not think that he would be able to complete the mission at all. Besides, she was also tired of mercenaries accepting this mission and none of them had found it yet. She did not think that this ordinary looking fellow would make a difference.

Miguel did not think too much about it and immediately went to the Northern Crest Woods.

Cedric Ironheart was considered a noble in Blazing City.

He also met him during the inauguration ceremony but he did not pay that much attention to him as he was a weak individual. As far as he knew, the only reason why he was invited during that time was solely because Cedric Ironheart was very wealthy.

With his wealth, he could hire many powerful mercenaries easily.
