Chapter 232: Day 3 End

Gasper and the other four opened their lots simultaneously.

A hint of surprise flashed across Gasper’s eyes as he saw the blank paper on his hands.

Casandra looked over and nodded her head.

"You will be moved to the lower bracket and wait for the losers in the upper bracket to fight you," she stated before she moved to let the sophomores draw their lots as well.

Unlike Gasper, Erika was not lucky enough and did not manage to draw the blank lots. Even so, she was not worried as she was confident of reaching the finals even without the help of the blank lot.

She won during her first year in the academy when she was still a newbie and still has a lot to learn. Now that she has already strengthened her foundation and became even more stronger, she was naturally even more confident than before.

After the lots were drawn, the participants returned to their seats and waited for the referee or announcer to start the battle.

As there were only a few battles left, they decided to hold each battle one a few minutes apart from the first, unlike the previous times where the battles were held simultaneously.

This time, the martial artists and grimoire summoner of the freshmen division would go first, while the sophomore would follow right after.

This way, the loser and the winner would still have time to rest before their next battle, which will happen on the same day.

It was a double-elimination type competition so it could be said that there was a chance that a person would battle each and every participant of their respective division.

This time, the freshmen division was the first to be called on stage.

Eight freshmen went on stage at the same time. Four from the Martial Artists while the remaining four came from the Grimoire Summoners.

The eight of them occupied the four stages in pairs.

Round 1 finally began after the announcer shouted the start of the battle.

As expected, the battle this time around was quite intense.

None of the participants wanted to be the person who would fight all other participants due to losing the round 1 battle. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

Each of them gives it their all. Trump cards were revealed one after the other, making the crowd burst into a cheer of excitement.

After a while, winners were finally decided from the four stages.

The winners would advance to round 2 and fight each other for the final slot in the upper bracket.

The losers would move to the lower bracket and fight each other during the second round as well. The winner would then eventually face the loser of the upper bracket’s round 2.

Of course, the lucky ones who drew the blank lots were living a good life and were the most leisurely.

They can just sit back and relax at the back while the participants are already fighting for their life in front.

They were called the lucky ones for a reason, after all.

After the first round of the freshman ended, the sophomore’s round 1 also started a few minutes later.

As expected, Erika won effortlessly. She still had not use her signature beast and was still using the Red Sparrow to fight her enemy.

Thus, Erika moved to the second round of the sophomore division.

After the sophomore’s first round ended, the second round of the freshmen started soon after.

Two winners in the upper bracket and two losers in the lower bracket fought with each other.

Perhaps, due to the fatigue they sustained during the first round, the battle this time was no longer as intense. The losers even felt demotivated, making their attack extremely loud and clumsy.

Eventually, the winners and the losers was decided once again.

The winner in the upper bracket would wait for the winner in the lower bracket to fight for the championship.

The loser in the upper bracket was moved down to the lower bracket and will face the winner of the two losers in the lower bracket in the third round.

As for the loser in the lower bracket, he was crowned as the top 5.

Even though he was at the last spot, no one dared to underestimate him as they knew that reaching the top 5 was not an easy feat to begin with.

A round of applause welcomed him as he exited the stage. His previous gloomy heart became stable and a triumphant smile appeared on his face. Although he fell on the top 5 spot, his confidence was renewed and he knew that this was only the start of his journey.

The same thing happened to the sophomore division.

Erika advanced and was the eventual winner of the upper bracket. She was now only waiting for the winner in the lower bracket. Her next fight was tomorrow, along with the other finalists.

Victor Hall was as stable as Erika. Both of them were undefeated ever since the start of the competition.

Gasper also won his last battle for the day. His performance was outstanding and he was actually able to overpower his opponent and ended the battle in a few moves.

Of course, it also helped that his opponent had already battled thrice before facing him.

He was a loser in the first round in the upper bracket and won all his battles in the lower bracket. He was crowned as the third place of the freshmen division. Not a bad position and place for a freshman like him.

Luck was obviously a part of strength, and it just so happened that Gasper’s luck this time around was greater than his opponent.

As for Gasper’s next opponent. He was the well-known genius of the Red Family and he came from the main branch. He was even monikered as the second Domen. He managed to defeat his opponents domineeringly.

Even Miguel felt that he was extremely fierce and that Gasper only has around 25% chance winning against him.

Anyway, the winner will only be decided after a fierce fight. Who knew if Gasper still had a trump card that he still had not used.

After the competition ended for the day, Miguel and the two went back to Maras’ Tavern.

Maras Tavern has become the place that they went to the most aside from the library during these past few weeks.

With their frequent visit, it also caused a slight increase in the Maras Tavern’s daily customer average.

Elder Journey had become a well-known figure in Blazing City after all. Those who knew and idolized him would come to Maras Tavern from time to time.

When he arrived at the Maras Tavern, though, it was still as deserted as before.

From the looks of it, that beast was still not found and the mercenaries were still searching for it until now.

When he came in front of Maras, his mood was a mixture of gloom and elation.

"What do you have in mind this time around?" Miguel asked as he sat at the bar table along with Edith and Aaliyah.

Hearing his question, Maras smiled wryly and explained, "Well. The twin finally abandoned the idea of exploring the passage, for now."

Miguel nodded his head, "Isn’t that a good thing? What is the cause for their change of mind?"

Maras released a sigh of defeat, "The same thing that attracted the attention of the mercenary customers."

He then continued, "That mission in the Mercenary Guild completely blew up. The issuer raised the reward to 2000 Gold Coins ruthlessly. The mercenaries who were nonchalant at first were eventually lured in by the rewards."

"Like them, the twin was also attracted by such a handsome reward. Due to this, they abandoned the idea of exploring the passage for the time being and prioritized searching for that unknown beast."

Miguel acknowledged and nodded his head.

The reward was double compared to yesterday. It was not a wonder why the mercenaries were attracted and why Maras’ Tavern became even more deserted.

Finally, Miguel realized why Maras was feeling a bit gloomy even after the twin abandoned the idea of exploring the passage.

With such an increase of reward, even Miguel was curious as to what kind of beast it truly was.

The 2,000 Gold Coins was tempting enough, and now his curiosity was even added to the mix.

Miguel thought that he should visit the northern-side of Blazing City and check the situation there.

It just so happened that he wanted to go out as well.

At this moment, he only lacked 1 Bronze Grade Grimoire to condense another one. He also guessed that his summoner experience points were nearing the final stage and that it would not take long for him to reach Advance Elite Summoner.

Becoming an Advance Elite Summoner meant that he could summon 4 different summons per day, and at this moment, he only had a total of four summons.

At this point, Miguel had already decided to check the situation there later.

Of course, he would not go as Elder Journey but in a different identity.

Aside from the fact that it would garner a lot of attention if he went there as Elder Journey, it would also not in-line with his persona that only wanted to read books, gain knowledge and was disinterested in worldly affairs.

If he went there as Elder Journey, no sane person would also dare to offend him.

And if no one offended him, how could he earn experience points and the remaining Brone Grade Grimoire?

Anyway, he asked a few more questions to Maras while disguising it as useless meal-chat to gain some more information about the Mercenary Guild and how it operated.
