Chapter 55

It was the only answer no matter how much she thought about it. His almost white silver hair proved it – the same color as Carlisle and Essellia’s. Although all of the wolves had white hair and may look the same at first glance, there were subtle differences. While Terrun’s was dark silver, this boy’s hair was a bright silver. Alexa curiously looked at the boy.

‘Has he already had his second growth spurt?’

Alexa swallowed a sigh. This was the last thing she expected. Fate had changed again.

Was this another side effect of Han Yu-Hee entering Alexa’s body? Because it was a person that shouldn’t have lived? It was still unclear how Ysildus’ second growth would affect her, Thersion, and this country.

Alexa finally let out a sigh. This beautiful wolf must have forgotten her completely. It was said that they forget their previous memories once they become human.

Alexa was teary in regret. Their separation came sooner than she had expected. Thersion would no longer need her, and she would be kicked out of the door.

Alexa hopes that Karrolf will continue teaching her... He seems to have taken a liking to her, so maybe he will keep her as a pupil. Perhaps, she can come to the castle to visit Terrun from time to time... Perhaps, it would be better to have Selina stay in the castle.

Alexa gently stroked Ysildus’ hair. His soft hair reminded her of Ysu’s soft dog fur. She poked Ysildus’ cheek, who was tired and didn’t wake up.

“Ysu...?”

Alexa whispered to the boy. It was difficult for her to stand up and leave the room, even though she knew that it could be dangerous. It was only after calling Ysildus again and didn’t wake up that she rose to her feet.

“Head Maid.”

Alexa closed the bedroom door and came out to find the Head Maid. The Head Maid, who usually never left the vicinity, responded to her call.

“You’re up early, Alexa. What is it?”

“I think... something’s wrong with Ysildus.”

The Head Maid’s eyes sharpened. No matter how much of a devil and troublemaking he may be, Ysildus is still the heir of this house. Anything wrong with him was cause of concern. The Head Maid pushed open the door, with Alexa poking her head out behind her. A boy they didn’t recognize was sleeping on her bed, tucked up in the quilt. But the aura he emanated was familiar. The Head Maid’s eyes widened. He still has a year and a half away from his second growth spurt...!

“It can’t be...”

“He’s Ysildus, Head Maid.”

“Oh, heavens!”

The Head Maid’s mouth hung open and quickly closed the door. She summoned a passing servant to bring the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess, as well as the knights. Quickly doing the work, the Head Maid gently pulled Alexa in.

The Head Maid took her up to Endeltherium. Only the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess were allowed inside, but she was authorized to open the bedroom. Someone was needed to tidy up the bedchamber.

She opened the Endeltherium, fully knowing that she would be reprimanded for her misbehavior later.

“Stay here, Alexa, There is nothing more dangerous than a wolf who has just turned human. It’s already fortunate that Young Master Ysildus did not hurt you, but we can’t guarantee the next time.”

“I understand, Head Maid.”

Alexa obediently nodded her head.

“I have to go downstairs. I’ll be back to fetch you in a moment. Can you stay here alone?”

“Yes... Please call Selina.”

“Selina?”

The Head Maid raised her eyebrow, wondering why she thought of Selina at this moment, but she had no time to think about other things.

“Then I will call for both Terrun and Selina. Will that be alright?”

“Yes.”

The Head Maid asked the maids to call Terrun and Selina. She then told Alexa to close the door when the two arrived, and showed her how to close Endeltherium. She gave Alexa another reminder and hurried out of Endeltherium.

The Head Maid hurried back down the hall to Alexa’s bedroom. Alexa could hear the commotion.

* * *

Karrolf entered the castle after hearing the news that Ysildus had turned into a human sooner than expected. He came to check his health. To his surprise, the human Ysildus looked at him with a calm gaze. Dressed and groomed by the servants, Ysildus greeted Karrolf. In the Grand Duke’s living room, they were joined by the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess, Visten, Head Maid, and the Head Butler. Except for Violeta, who was out hunting.

“Young Master Ysildus?”

Karrolf cautiously called to the boy. He was aware that wolves who had just completed their second growth spurt were prone to committing acts of violence due to excitement and heightened state. This was particularly true for those who were born with purer bloods. Records of this could be found everywhere, but strangely, Ysildus seemed calm.

“Or, have you already tasted blood?”

Karrolf asked cautiously, his question directed to everyone in the room. He doesn’t expect that Ysildus would be able to answer. As he continued looking at Ysildus, he realized something.

Alexa wasn’t in this room. Of course, she could have been sent elsewhere because of the danger, but what if she was the victim who had fallen prey to Ysildus’s newly grown body? Karrolf clenched his fists.

The Grand Duke lazily said, “Ysildus didn’t drink anyone’s blood. He’s been like this since he woke up.”

The Grand Duke’s words made Karrolf want to ask about Alexa’s whereabouts right away, so he asked again.

“Did he have any seizures or anything?”

“Nothing.”

“That’s... impossible.”

Karrolf stared at the extraordinary event of Thersion. A simultaneous incomplete awakening and imprinting was bad enough, but he turned human a year and half earlier, adding to that the subtle calm atmosphere around him. A beast is already dangerous, but a beast with reason is even more dangerous. Karrolf gulped.

“Young Master Ysildus, do you recognize me?”

Karrolf  asked, just in case. Normally, he should have lost all memory. But there was something oddly familiar.

“Sir Karrolf.”

Ysildus slowly replied. He had never spoken before, he stuttered, but his pronunciation was clear. It was Karrolf’s name. Karrolf gaped.

“It turns out Ysildus remembers everything – everything about his shameful past as a wolf cub.”

“Shameful?” Essellia shot him a fierce look, then grinned. “Of course, he remembers Alexa as well. He also retained his rationality without drinking blood.”

Essellia put her hand on Ysildus’ shoulder. The boy sitting there like a still life smiled at her touch.

“Do you mind if I examine you for a moment, Young Master Ysildus?”

Karrolf asked Ysildus in a trembling voice. Ysildus nodded his head. He remained silent during the examination. If anything, it was Karrolf who was burdened by Ysildus’ stare.

He is the child of Carlisle and his mate, who is said to be the closest to the wolf deity. Ysildus’ aura made his heart start pumping urgently. Despite being only 14 years old, Ysildus possessed a refined aura. It was hard to imagine that this was the same young wolf who used to eat chocolate and visit the healer just a short time ago.

He was healthy, with no signs of illness. Ysildus had perfectly awakened.

“… There seems to be no problem, Your Excellency.”

“Mm.”

Funny how life could be so free. Lately, things had been happening that made Carlisle’s freedom slip away. Carlisle remembered the wolf who had become human before he was old enough. Because he was that wolf. He was a ‘special’ wolf, one that retained all of his pre-human memories.

How this was possible was not understood at the time. His parents decided it was better to keep it a secret, so they distorted the record. And Carlisle knows now that his parents were right: there’s a difference between ‘special’ and ‘weird’.

“Keep Thersion off-limits and make sure this doesn’t get out.”

Carlisle spoke as softly as if he were singing.

“The Emperor must not know of this. He knows what a worried man can do. Ysildus, can you keep your secret?”

“Yes.”

Ysildus smiled, resembling his father.
