Chapter 340: Chapter 340 Warm

"Drake," Luna said firmly, "my dad always says your hands need to be free when you’re running or when something dangerous happens. What if you need to run?"

Vlad nodded in agreement, his voice soft but sensible. "She’s right. And Principal sir’s shadows are guarding the bags anyway."

Drake glanced at the swirling dark shadows Dante had summoned earlier, now curled protectively around the pile of bags. They looked like a nest of smoky serpents, calm but alert, ready to strike at anything that tried to touch the children’s belongings.

Sable sniffled and pointed with his tiny hand. "See? They’re safe there... they won’t let anything happen."

Finally, Drake sighed deeply, as if parting with great treasure. "Okaaay..." he muttered, dragging his feet dramatically as he carried the small bag over to the pile. He placed it gently beside the others.

The moment Drake stepped back, Dante’s shadows shifted like ink swirling in water, wrapping protectively around all the bags again.

Drake blinked, impressed. "Whoa... Principal sir’s shadows look cooler when they protect shinies."

Vlad Jr. sighed like a miniature adult. "Drake... it’s not about shinies."

"It is for me," Drake whispered, hugging himself shyly.

Luna rolled her eyes and pulled him back into the group. "Stay close. No wandering."

The babies nodded together—smaller, quieter, and more frightened than usual, but united.

A small group of sea-folk had gathered quietly at the edge of the fair. They had heard whispers of an incident with the children, though the truth of it remained undisclosed. Now, their wide eyes and soft smiles were fixed on the cluster of Class D babies huddled under Luna’s watch.

"They are so cute..." whispered one mermaid woman, her hands pressed to her cheeks. Her shimmering tail flicked excitedly behind her. "Look at them! They’re helping each other... even though each one is from a different race!"

A fish-man beside her nodded vigorously, his gills fluttering. "It’s unbelievable. I always heard vampires were very elegant and very cold-blooded. Mean too! But that little vampire boy... he appears so caring!"

Vlad Jr., completely unaware, was gently patting Sable’s head and adjusting his collar like a tiny gentleman.

Another mermaid leaned forward, her voice filled with admiration. "And look at that wolf pup... goddess of the moon, she’s acting like their leader! She’s so tiny, but she’s telling everyone where to stand."

They all watched Luna as she bossily nudged Drake into place and made sure Sable stayed close. Her tail wagged in small frustrated motions as she tried to keep order, looking like a little general marshaling troops.

One of the sea-folk sighed dreamily. "Look how obedient they are. Not running around at all. I’ve never seen children stay in one spot for more than ten seconds—especially at a fair!"

"Ocean bless them," murmured another, clasping his hands. "Such well-behaved little creatures. Their parents must be amazing."

Behind them, two sea dragons peeking from behind a stall nodded in unison.

"They’re adorable," one whispered.

"Truly," the other agreed. "I want to pick them all up and take them home."

And the small audience continued to stare with sparkling eyes, completely enchanted by Class D.

Luna couldn’t hear a single word of the distant whispers behind them. Water currents muffled everything, softening even her usually sharp wolf hearing. All she could sense was the tension in the water, the way the grown-ups’ movements felt heavier and faster, the way King Corvus’s aura trembled faintly with worry, and the shadows around Dante twisting anxiously like living smoke.

It made her small heart tighten.

She shifted her feet, her fur-soft ears dipping low as she looked at Drake, Vlad Jr., and Sable huddled close beside her. All of them were watching the adults with the same frightened curiosity, little mouths pressed into worried lines.

Luna swallowed. She didn’t want them to see how scared she felt too.

So she turned away from the anxious scene, her little wolf tail curling around her leg, and she folded her hands together the way her mother had taught her long ago. Her head bowed down, eyes squeezing shut.

Moon Goddess... please protect our friends, she prayed silently, her tiny lips moving in a whisper the others couldn’t hear. Please keep teacher safe too. Please bring them back.

The faint glow of underwater light brushed her cheek as if listening.

The deeper Alina walked into the cave, the colder it became—an icy stillness that sank into her bones as if the water itself were slipping beneath her skin. She pulled Boo a little closer, her fingers squeezing his small round body, needing the comfort of holding someone even if that someone was a tiny ghost.

"Boo... are you feeling cold?" she whispered, her breath shaky as it left her lips.

Boo blinked his big round eyes at her, completely unbothered. "No," he said with innocent cheer. "Boo never feel cold! Boo is normally cold!" He wiggled proudly, as if being cold was his greatest achievement.

His soft ghostly tail brushed lightly against the back of her hand, leaving a cool but oddly comforting sensation, like passing her fingers through a faint glow. For a second, it distracted her fear, and she managed a small smile.

"Okay... so no problem for Boo boo," she murmured, adjusting her hold on him so he could tuck his little hands around her neck. "Right?"

Boo nodded firmly. "Yes! Boo is brave! Boo can glow for teacher! Boo can scare anyone too!" he added, puffing up bravely even though his voice trembled just a little.

"Good," she whispered, more to herself than to him as the cave grew darker and the sound of dripping water echoed around them. "Then... we just need to find the babies. And then go home. And I swear, once we’re home, I’m hiding under my thickest blanket for the rest of the night..."

Boo tightened his tiny arms around her neck. "Teacher won’t be alone," he said softly. "Boo will help find them. Boo will protect teacher."

Alina’s eyes softened painfully, and she hugged him closer, taking strength from the tiny warm promise in his cold little body.
