Chapter 441: Chapter 183: Purification of Earth City, Data Loading (5k)_2

This Demon Kingdom was indeed outrageous. Under its system of theocratic rule, its people seemed like madmen to outsiders. They possessed numerous forms of bizarre evil magic; moreover, their ideology, values, and other aspects completely differed from those of other regimes of that era.

They regarded death as glory, and dying for the Sacred Fire Sect was considered the highest honor.

They still maintained the tradition of living sacrifices, and, shockingly, the positions for the annual sacrifices were ones people actively competed for.

They had a strict hierarchical system: the top tier consisted of official members of the Sacred Fire Sect, the second tier comprised ordinary followers, and the rest were the other citizens of the Demon Kingdom, followed by people from vassal states around them.

And those outside of this were not even considered human.

When his Fourth Great-uncle Master transmitted this information to him, he had repeatedly warned Wen Yan several times that if he ever encountered a Ghost from the Sacred Fire Sect or the Demon Kingdom in the Netherworld, he must not hesitate or show mercy, nor judge them by current values.

Because in their eyes, you wouldn’t even be human; killing you might be considered less solemn than slaughtering a sheep.

This was why they were referred to as the Demon Kingdom, and why there was barely any record of them after their downfall.

Because the Demon Kingdom was too sinister; its core doctrines and such were not preserved.

The Sacred Fire Sect that remains outside the Divine Land today survives merely because they bear the name but have lost the core essence. They are completely different from the original Sacred Fire Sect.

Otherwise, even outside the Divine Land, they would have been crushed by others.

After evaporating the remaining Ghosts, Wen Yan strolled around Earth City.

The place looked like an ordinary settlement, very characteristic of that era. However, upon casually entering a few homes, he found several skeletons with many knife marks hanging in what should have been a wealthy family’s kitchen.

Just by examining the skulls, Wen Yan knew these skeletons were not locals—their skulls were obviously different from those of the local people.

It was just as his Fourth Great-uncle Master had described; apart from the locals, perhaps no one else was considered human.

Nearly every household here had something akin to a shrine, with a dedicated room for worship. Even the smallest homes had a space set aside for it.

At the center of Earth City was a platform that looked like an execution stand, stained black by blood. The resentment, hostility, and killing aura that lingered there had merged with the platform to such an extent that even Wen Yan’s Yang Energy could not completely purify it.

Considering the remaining skeletons, Wen Yan didn’t think this place had been used for slaughtering cattle and sheep.

Wen Yan just wandered for a while before rubbing his head and giving up.

Just from reading the description given by his Fourth Great-uncle Master, he had indeed found it hard to understand. But seeing these clues in person left him deeply shocked—the events his Fourth Great-uncle Master described were likely beautified versions of what little was recorded.

He now completely abandoned the idea of communication. He couldn’t communicate with these Ghosts from over a thousand years ago.

In their eyes, he was probably just a horned demon. The outcome would be one of two things: either he’d be killed, or they’d kill him, then dismember his bones and carve his flesh, turning him into a ’warrior’s feast.’

There was no middle ground.

Wen Yan returned to the center of Earth City and sat in front of the platform, exuding Yang Energy and reciting the Transcendence Scriptures. It wasn’t until after three continuous rounds that distorted Lost Souls began to emerge and dissipate into the air from the thoroughly marinated platform.

After clearing and purifying the entire Earth City, Wen Yan finally felt a sense of relief.

He was ready to move on when the Grave Walker came back, beaming.

"Sir, I’ve found something good."

Wen Yan followed him to the backyard of a house, where he saw what seemed to be a grave pit, containing a coffin carved with various patterns.

Wen Yan silently looked at the Grave Walker and then smiled in realization.

"Is this considered a usable grave?"

"It should be usable. I’ve searched the entire Earth City and found only this one. No other house has one. This one was probably just temporary; the funeral rites hadn’t been completed when the entire Earth City was buried by sand. It’s still well-preserved, exactly like a Desolate Tomb that has lacked worship for a long time."

"Be careful."

"Thank you, sir, for filling it with dirt. Only a living person can do this job; I cannot."

Wen Yan picked up a nearby table and used it to push the piled dirt, filling in the grave pit.

The Grave Walker rubbed his hands, found a tool, and after a few digs, the grave mound split open, revealing a dark hole below.

The Grave Walker sensed for a long time at the entrance, eventually showing a smile. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

"I’ll try first, sir. Wait for me; I’ll be right back."

"Are you sure it’s safe?"

"It’s safe. Thanks to you, sir, I can now vaguely sense what the exit on the other side is like. While I might not be clear about other places, I can definitely sense my own home clearly."

The Grave Walker entered the hole, and after about fifteen minutes, he crawled back out.

"It worked! I truly can go back, though the path is a bit rough."

"As long as you can return."

Wen Yan breathed a sigh of relief. He had been worried about getting lost. Now that there was a passageway back to the manor, it was a good thing.

He left a Talisman in Earth City as a marker, then led the group back to the manor.

This path, indeed, was nothing like the Netherworld Avenue they had used before—it was more like a rugged trail in the wilderness, difficult to navigate but at least providing a way back.

Back at the manor, Wen Yan first ate a hot meal. As for taking a bath, forget it—water resources shouldn’t be wasted so frivolously.
