I Am Tired Of Being A Hero-Chapter 77: The deal
Chapter 77: The deal
Ravi looked at the woman confused.
Lana cleared his throat. Because of this person, she could not sleep all night, "What are...What are you cooking?"
Ravi frowned, his gaze cold.
The woman noticed it and forced down her instinct to protect herself, "I live here. So I can perceive the aroma of the food." Her stomach grumbled and she cleared her throat, "I am a little hungry. If the money is not enough, I...I can give you more."
That was a lie. When they had fled the Capital, they could not carry much so this was all the money that she had.
Lana gritted her teeth. It was all because of Anouk, that man was so hateful. It was not enough to destroy her base, when she had sneakily tried to access her offshore account, there was not a single dime. More than 200 million dollars gone, she can’t even afford a synthesizer. She was not the one who slept with him, why is she the one suffering?
She felt so wrong that she wanted to cry.
"Just you wait. You and Malik, the two of you should just wait." She muttered under her breath.
"What did you say?"
"Nothing, Nothing. Ah! A kitty. Kitty! Kitty, come here."
Was she mentally insane? She does not look it but she sure acted it. Ravi looked down speechlessly at the woman who was squatting down beckoning Asher.
"He does not...."
To his surprise, the cat who refused to give Arlen a look yesterday suddenly leaped towards the woman and she scratched his jaws.
Ravi was shocked and he rubbed his forehead.
"Your cat likes me. If the money is not enough, I can babysit for you."
"Babysit?" Ravi asked.
"Catsit. You are an officer, right? Malik said the two of you came back together yesterday. I can look after the kitten when you are at work. When you come back, you can pick him up but in exchange, I have to eat breakfast with you. It is a good deal. You should accept."
Ravi felt like he would have a headache. A companion of the incarnate had fallen through the fence, asking for food in exchange for taking care of Asher. He would be going to the club after work so he had been worried.
While Asher would be okay throughout the day, some nights, a kind of monster remnant from the Harlan’s Nest, the Earthwalker surfaced, burrowing its way through the soil. Ravi had never killed the source because the corpse of the Earthwalker was another nest monster which was very good for plants.
The energy contained in its core was more Wood-like. He looked at Asher who was usually calm when being petted by Lana.
He did not like visitors, it was as if his space was being intruded upon but when it came to Asher’s safety at night.
This person forgot her innocent look was strong. The power radiating from her was even stronger than the youth he saw last time. He sniffed, and it was something wood-light. There was a gentleness to her power. That does not mean that she can be trusted though.
Ravi sighed and handed the envelope of money back to her.
"You won’t feed me." Her voice was cold as she stared at him. Even though she looked angry, she looked similar to the cat.
"I will be back late tonight so you can help me look after the cat. He will come to your house around 4 pm."
"No need." She looked at the garden flourishing and she could feel her ability thrumming, "I can stay here."
Here. When he was not here. Ravi did not like it.
"Asher would come to your house."
This person would not change his mind. She wondered about her luck to always encounter stubborn people, "Fine."
Ravi opened the kitchen door for her to enter and then asked her to wait a minute, "Asher, come here."
The cat leaped into his outstretched hands and Ravi patted his head. He had been eager to run to a stranger and now he was eager to run from her. Teenagers were really temperamental.
He walked up the stairs, explaining the situation to him, "Earthwalkers. Those monsters that are like large worms are still here. They appear at night. You just have to stay at their place tonight."
He dropped the cat on the ground in front of his room and made to enter when he felt something on his clothes. He turned to Asher.
Those cornflower blue eyes were watching him with an expression that was familiar to Ravi.
He sighed and squatted down, "I am not abandoning you. I am going somewhere you can not go until you are 21 years old." Or was it eighteen, he did not know the rules on this Earth, "I will pick you up in the morning. Didn’t I tell you that you can rest here until you want to leave?"
He patted his head, "Be good. Wait for me."
He then stood up and entered his room. He knelt next to his bed and pulled out an old box opening it, it was filled with so many trinkets. None of their materials could be seen on these plants.
He searched through for a while and then chose a wooden box. He opened it to reveal a black obsidian necklace and earrings. Ravi unclasped the hook on his ear and replaced it with the black jewel. He took the other pair to the kitten who was waiting outside the door.
He bent down to wear the jewel around the kitten’s neck, seeing inquisitive eyes on him, he explained, "This is an amulet." He did not explain anymore and walked down the stairs. He dropped Asher on the kitchen counter and looked at Lana.
The young woman was sitting on the chair with a plate in front of her and pressing her phone. The moment she saw Ravi, she sat up and her gaze instantly moved to the wok with the pork braised rice.
Ravi felt helpless and rubbed his forehead, "That is for lunch. I am about to make breakfast now."
