I Am Tired Of Being A Hero-Chapter 58: Exquisite or Cute
Chapter 58: Exquisite or Cute
"Officer West!"
The moment Ravi saw him, he felt as if there was a sudden wind in the air or someone had breathed into his heart, and all the irritability had suddenly disappeared.
"Officer West!" Arlen called again, walking towards him, he was followed by a woman with short blue hair and light red eyes that shone like fire.
"Captain!" Ravi greeted, looking at him. His eyes were a little swollen like he did not get enough sleep.
The fire should have started in the middle of the night.
Arlen wanted to reach out to feel his temperature but he held himself back in public, "How are you feeling? The case is tedious this time, it was such a huge fire. If you are feeling tired, you should go back home and get some rest."
"I am fine. I mean, I am feeling better now."
"Did you have breakfast?" Arlen asked, his eyes narrowing as he contemplated his words. Ravi looked fine, and well-rested, so it should be alright.
"Yes, Egg fried rice and iced coffee."
Arlen swallowed, recalling the taste of the pasta he had last night, "It must have been so delicious. You..."
The woman could not endure it anymore and cleared her throat.
Arlen blinked, he had actually forgotten about her, "Officer West, this is Captain Millie of the Davenport Fire Brigade, Captain Millie, this is one of my team members. Ravi West."
Ravi nodded at the woman.
She smiled at him, "Nice to meet you, Officer West. I have heard good things about you."
No, she had not. He was the lowest key member of the Davenport Police Bureau, there was no way she would have heard anything astonishing about him. She was just being polite.
Ravi wanted to ignore her but since Arlen was there, and he had carefully introduced her to him, he nodded his head, "And I, you."
There was a strange silence for a couple of minutes and the two of them burst out laughing. The woman laughed out so loud, Arlen tried to muffle his own laughter but Ravi could see his shoulder shaking suspiciously.
He looked at the two of them, he was not sure he liked them. The both of them laughed at a joke he did not know.
"Thank you for making my day a bit brighter, Officer West. Captain Sinclair, we will investigate from our own end and get back to you. Let’s say tomorrow, we would hold a meeting and discuss findings." With that, the woman left. She had not walked more than ten feet when someone ran to her and whispered something and the two left together.
"Why was she laughing?" Ravi asked, looking in the direction that the woman left.
Arlen smiled, "So you were bothered."
"Not particularly."
Arlen chuckled again, his chuckle was low and deep, it was much deeper than when he was outrightly laughing, he rubbed his chin as if he was thinking deeper, "Probably because you were cute right now, Officer West."
Cute? Cute?
"Are you teasing me again Captain?" Ravi asked as he struggled to keep a straight face,
"During Work hours, I never would. I was just being honest. Officer West does not like it when I am honest?"
Ravi was tongue-tied. What should he reply to right now? No, he does not like it when Arlen is honest or Yes, he likes it and that he is cute. How is he cute, he was a 5’9 man.
This damned delicate face.
"What should I do? Join Officer Adams and Officer Brown to interview the neighbors?"
"Are you upset? Because I called you cute?" Arlen asked, he looked around the crime scene, not that there was much of a crime scene with this kind of fire. Brown and Adams were interviewing the neighbors, Arlen had not noticed it but Ravi had. Even though he had been facing him all this time.
He smiled, "Should I have called you exquisite instead?"
This was Workplace Harassment.
"Captain is the one who is exquisite." Ravi retorted back, it might be a quip but he was being honest. Those long legs that looked like they could stretch for days, those facial features, and his temperament, that was just like the sun. Exquisite might be too poor an adjective to describe him.
"Oh my!" He used one hand to cover his mouth while batting his eyes, "You are going to make me blush." His heart pounded a bit faster and he looked at Ravi who rolled his eyes, making him chuckle.
He was so fun to tease.
"Captain." Lisa called, jogging forward.
Arlen was a bit disappointed that he and Ravi;’s interaction had ended quietly. What he hated most especially was the way that fiery light that had been in Ravi’s hazel eyes dulled down, settling into the half-bored, a quarter annoyed, and a quarter indifferent glow that he had the first day that they met.
"What do we do now?" Lisa said, "We have sealed off the area and chased away the onlookers. There was nothing to be found at the crime scene, even the CCTV was burned beyond recognition. Why are we investigating a fire? It is a grill bar and neighbors said that they were having a party yesterday. Couldn’t they been a little careless and left the gas on or something?"
"It is a routine investigation. We have to rule out that it was intentional and is an accident." Arlen explained carefully.
Lisa was still confused. Whenever she was troubled, she used her thumbnail to pick on her index finger, "The Fire Brigade is already investigating that."
"They are investigating the origin and the cause of the fire. We are investigating if there is a human element to the fire. We would also investigate whether there is a motive for the fire, if it is intentional, or if it is an accident. That is why they are handling forensics and we are questioning people." He was the farthest thing from annoyed, explaining carefully with a calm tone and a light smile.
"I should investigate the insurance of the Micheal, know if they would have a huge cash-out if there is a fire."
"Good idea, Officer Johnson."
His praise made her cheeks turn red and Ravi looked down. What was this feeling in his chest just now? He did not like it at all.
